@BenSteeleMJS Marquette coach Shaka Smart says freshman Damarius Owens will likely miss #mubb opener and maybe more games with a toe injury suffered in scrimmage vs. Oklahoma.
Owens also dealt with groin injury in the preseason.
Not an ideal start to the season injury wise. Let's hope we stay healthy this year.
Ouch.
This will hurt no doubt. He is going to be very good.
I was looking forward to see him play.

This will hurt us on Monday? No doubt about it?
I sure hope we are not in such a contested game that DO's services would have been necessary.

Are you kidding!?!? I'm ALREADY hurting from it, probably unbearable pain on Monday.
One of duane's starters down already. May need to go with the old, washed up guys.
We are doomed.
What hurts is that I was looking forward to seeing Owens play because he was very impressive in the open practice, and I hope that missing some early games won't hinder his development as the tougher games come up.
I had Owens pegged as a likely part of an 8 man rotation when the conference season comes around.
Redshirt
Great.
Another scrimmage that dropped us at least 2 seed lines

Only been reported that he's missing one game.

Gonna be more, my guy

He already missed some practice time and the open scrimmage with the groin injury. He presumably also missed at least some of the Oklahoma scrimmage.
The report now says he will likely miss one game and maybe more.
With the missed time and possible nagging injuries Owens might not be as ready to play as he would have been otherwise.

Not Monday. Just in general. He's a big piece to this team on both sides of the ball. He will be one step behind the game action whenever he is ready. Hopefully they can get him up to speed before playing games that could be close.

Ughhhhhhh. Hopefully this is ephemeral.

Good thing we are not playing Radford.
This is bad, I'm pissed!
Hope it's not too serious. Seems minor, but toe injuries stink. You feel it on every step and people don't bounce back from them as fast as you'd think.
Opportunity beckons for Parham, Hamilton, Amadou, Lowery.

Nice take, Tower.

Nothing minor about declaring him out many days before the game. Not good.

Well, I guess it's lucky it wasn't a declaration of him being out then.
A team without leaders is like a foot without a big toe. And Sergeant Owens isn't always gonna be here to be that big toe for us. I think that we owe a big round of applause to our newest, bestest buddy, and big toe... Sergeant Owens.
At the Coaches luncheon today, Zaide described it as "broke something in his toe". No idea what that means in terms of timetable
It will suck if Owens is out for an extended period. But an injury is an opportunity. Grab it with both hands, young men.
I thought Shaka's tone in his press conference suggested a lengthier absence. A break might be better than turf toe. What's the max absence, 4-5 weeks?

Depends on what toe he broke - could be as long as 8 weeks. Average would be 4-5.

One, or both?
Just praying they don't have to cut into the torso.
