I was talking to a 12-year-younger MU alum and mentioned SYR .. Screw Your Roommate. They didn't know what it was.
(SYR was a dance, where your roommate set you up with a date. I imagine 95% of the setups were by roommate request, but what do I know.)
Did SYR dances die off in 90s?
Yeah but, screwin' your roommate in 2024 has taken on a 'hole new meanin', aina?
Had never heard of it until this thread.
I thought this was short for Symir Torrence.
Do not remember this back in the 70's
One of my favorite Marquette memories was a SYR date from the Fall of 1987. Whenever I see the unfortunate woman who got set up with me, we share a laugh or two about that evening.
OMG, I completely forgot about SYR.
I remember participating but recall no details. Will have to dig deep in the memory bank on this one.
Frankly, I think SYR should dominate colleges, like have one every other week.
I think the introversion and shyness (due to social media) is 10x what it was decades ago. Make SYR a common thing, a match-making thing. Maybe students would be happier.
Never heard of it, class of 75. Thought this was going to be a discussion about playing Syracuse.
If both parties wanted to participate, it could be fun.
If not, well, would be very forgettable or unforgettable in a bad way.
Making your roommate watch that god awful Syracuse zone certainly is screwing them.
