Like any other exercise/sporting activity, recovery is needed.
You may over doing it and not allowing for enough recovery, hence the nagging injuries and pain.
When you're in your 40s and are getting nagging injuries from a sport made for people in retirement...
Jes is right - I do need to spend more on recovery (and stretching)

Who dat, yung boi? I'm past my 40s and partially retired.
At any rate, if you played one game against me in singles, I'd have you wheezing and out of breath (pawz). At the park tonight, of the 150+ people out there there was about 25% older than me. You know not of what you type.

Lots of stopping, starting, quick bursts (pawz), etc. Depends who's playing. Big time cardio, big time calorie burn
Against wads, I could move ze all over the court at my will.

I have no problem admitting you'd beat me in pickleball. Never stepped on a court in my life, and don't plan to for at least 30 years, when I get to the age most people play.

Sam Hauser was a star at MU for 3 years. Aaron Rodgers was a Super Bowl Champ and 2x MVP in Green Bay. Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the US, maybe the world.
Anders Carlson was a place kicker.

Counterpoint, Sam was a nobody who won nothing at MU, was a frontrunner who jumped to the defending national championship program and won nothing there, Rodgers has been on the Jets for 2 years now, and this topic wasn't a general Pickleball discussion, the title is literally "Pickleball Updates" and was BeeJay's schedule for the week, as if anybody cared about his pickleball abilities or schedule.
Anders was the best player on the Packers last year, according to very knowledgeable Scoopers.

Anders Carlson was the Packers best player last year. People forget that. The feedback from Scoopers in private messages have been overwhelmingly positive with regards to the topic. In fact, many Marquette fans afraid to post on Scoop because of the woke mob have sent me messages thanking me for speaking out for Anders.

It is. Different sports. Have run into a number of "screw pb I'm a tennis player" people. Which is fine.
Pretty easy to spot newbies coming in from tennis. Tourney last week ran into a 23 college tennis player.. lots of times they've got a mean forehand but are not great at the non volley zone.
Huge tournament on deck at 8a tmrw. My goal is to medal. #PrayersUp

Pickleball is a silly sport, in a good way.
Played with some 4.5 guys and was a blast.
Took me a bit to adjust for sure but the strategic aspect of it since hitting a winner is such a luxury vs tennis, but as a doubles specialist it does carry over angle wise.
Pickleball is actually really nice when you're coming back from a leg injury and working your way back to tennis. Good few of the guys I play with have done that.

Yes! Some do (eg, Bloomington). Life Time bought em about 20 years ago I believe. The Bloomington north location is Pickleball-centric and highly regarded for good play

Welp, I recently moved.. so playing at some new spots, but also traveling back to the old neighborhood and everywhere else in between. OUR sport is strong.
Thursday, started a new league at Le Dome by Lucky Shots, which recently opened (Grand Opening Party is today) and happens to be a 6-7 minute drive from the crib. Went OK, but I should have dominated consistently throughout the evening.
I'm slowly getting better, but also suck. If you're a 3.7 or under, I feel like I'm better than you and I should win. 3.8-4.1 we've got some competition - let's go!! 4.2-4.3 I might have a chance but will probably get embarrassed. 4.4+ different world, I'm wasting their time.
On deck for the long weekend:
Saturday - Open play at Le Dome grand opening 11am-12:45pm [then racing home or to a bar for the game].
Sunday - 8am - ?? Amateur Pickleball Association tournament at Mega Minnetonka. Playing mixed doubles -- the cutoffs got crazy close - BARELY got put into a lower division (3.5-4.0, 41 years old and up) but we were .001 on DUPR from getting put into a higher division and would have faced a team with a 4.7 guy and 4.6 20 year old gal. Yikes. This is a tournament where I need to prove where I'm at. Need to medal, period. Obviously the outcome of the Marquette game could influence my day and into tomorrow morning, but hopefully I will be ready in what will be a bone chilling day in the Twin Cities.
Sunday part 2 - 4pm-6:30pm - new league at Dropshot in Shakopee, MN -- "Squads". Teams of 4 compete in a somewhat MLP style league... almost like a doubles dreambreaker -- women play until someone hits 5.. then men play til someone hits 10... first mixed to 15.. last mix to 20 for the winner. I don't know what the flow of this is going to feel like.. kind of goofy, but should be fun. Will likely be completely spent from the morning tournament, but hopefully will be wearing some new hardware and inspired.
Monday - 1pm-3pm at Dropshot. Our team rented a court to practice/play. Maybe a little drilling, but playing on a court with video.. so, taking video of game play for analysis with "Save My Play" app. #AdvancedStats #PicklePom
OTHER NOTES...
A couple of months ago I switched from the Joola Perseus (old gen) to the Six Zero Double Black Diamond and have incorporated a lot more spin into my game.

Sunday 8a - tournament in Minnetonka (medaled, but Third place.. went 5-1 on the day... champs were sandbaggers)
Sunday noon-2:30 open play in maple grove
Sunday 4-630 Squads league (4 player teams) in Shakopee... we went 6-0 and beat a couple of very good teams.
Looong Sunday w a lot of travel and effort, but highly successful and rewarding
Hi guys. My DUPR has continued to lag a bit (I believe) vs. how well I'm playing due to the l o a d s of weak-level DUPR league games I had early on ~a year ago.
I'm now a 4.0, but may be a tad better *e.g., 4.1 to 4.15.
There are still tons of little improvements I can see .. low hanging fruit (pawz) that can make me better... so, looking forward to continued improvement. Would like to be sitting at 4.3-4.4 late summer.. but we'll see if I can pull it off. Fighting through multiple injuries but still getting it done for the most part.
If the comp is a 3.6 or below, they're in trouble. 3.7-3.9, I feel like I should beat up on 'em pretty good. 3.9-4.1 or 4.2... really depends. Good level of comp for me right now, but there are some where for different reasons it's a "oh, I'm way better" or "crap this guy is a stronger player than me right now" within that level. Just depends.
The biggest change in recent weeks for me I think has been seeing the court. Placement and decision-making has improved a lot, though much more to improve upon.
In a couple of leagues now, both at clubs that are fairly new to me but that I really like. One is a stated 3.5-4.0 where I'm on court 1.. top guy is a 4.2 with a gen 3 joola whose serves and power overall are ridiculous. July 1 these paddles are effectively banned and with good reason IMO.
New one starting up next week... 3.6-4.5 men's ladder league.. hoping to wind up at or very near the top court in that league.. looks like a good amount of 4.3+ guys in that one.
Finally, have played singles (and also 2 v 1 with me being the 1) a tiny bit and love it. Just need to find the right people to play with. It can be a lot of work and I'm worried about crazy injuries, but it's like a different game and very fun. Then again, some of the rallies are quite short in the singles game as compared to doubles.
Great mix lately of open play/"fun" and leagues/tourneys. I do enjoy just working on different things in open play and trying to be a good ambassador for the sport. Have met many great (or at least interesting) people from all walks of life, nationalities, ages, etc... it's an odd, maybe cult-ish bond.
Didn't play outside a ton last year.. but am gearing up for the outdoor season now and will look to get in some early AM and late PM sessions this spring/summer/fall. There are four newish courts a few hundred yards from my place.

How are your EGBs looking?

Incredible. Well, probably 88% of people react well. Some get salty. Lots of grunts, lots of yells, lots of words of encouragement and paddle-slaps.
The unique thing is.. I play in a lot of doubles pods.. where there are say 5 people in your group.. and you play one game with each person.. so, I speak words of encouragement and give daps to the 'opponents' at times, because that will be my teammate.

You are a true domino!
Big day, guys.
Men's doubles tournament this afternoon. 18 guys, 2 pools of 9. You play one game with the other 8. Top 9 from pool play go to championship round; bottom 9 go to bad player round. Then, repeat the play-with-8 deal, with scores reset, to determine medals.
On paper, I'm ranked #3. There's no excuse for not reaching the championship round. My goal is to medal. 16 games at this level is a lot. Open to all ages, so it'll be interesting to see how big of a factor fatigue is as the afternoon wears on. #pray

Current leagues:
Tuesdays 3.6-4.5 men's ladder league
Wednesdays - mixed ladder league, outdoors
Upcoming tourneys committed to (many more to come):
Today, Men's round robin tourney
Sunday, May 18 - Mixed doubles at Minnesota Majors Event #2
Friday, August 15 - Mixed doubles at Pints & Paddle's Summer Slam and Jam - huge event with 1k+ participants expected
-------------
Last Saturday I entered my first men's singles tournament. Lost the first three games, but learned a ton - my strategy was lacking at first. Started figuring things out in bracket play and wound up taking home the bronze medal. Absolutely a different game, and quite wearing on the body. Lots of short, sharp bursts and insane amounts of grunting.
-----------
Currently demo'ing three paddles. Today, I'm not 100% decided on which paddle(s) I'm going to use at the tourney. Dangerous situation. I like the Six Zero Double Black Diamond 14mm, but am not super confident in my drops or net play with it.. I may go between that and the Six Zero Ruby 16mm and/or Six Zero DBD 16mm, depending on the opponents.

Do it! What paddle did you use?

Indeed .. Pickleballers have a tendency to want to tell you their story, how they started, how often they go, how they got their childhood friend to start playing, how they stubbed their toe and how awful it was for them not to play for 12 days, how their second cousin Sally from Nebraska plays, and of course, how PB got it's name from a boat and NOT the dog named Pickle because that was after.
It. Goes. On. Forever.
Nothing like golfers. Or fishermen.

Nice goin' Hilltopper. You
ruined it for me by telling me that Pickleball was named after a friggin' boat rather than a dog. I did not know that. Crap!

All of 'em are annoying - and I include myself in the category of golfers who talk way too much about their round. I'd come home from playing, and my daughter would be like, "Go ahead, tell me about how you did on the seventh hole. Get it over with, because you know you're gonna."
But ...
None of 'em are worse than freakin' fantasy football "owners." Who gives a rat's rump that effen Tyler Higbee failed you?!?!
