Do the Cheerleaders and Pep Band get a stipend from the University to travel to the tournament games (Big East/NCAA) or do they go on their own dime?

MU pays for it all - and they are considered student athletes: https://gomarquette.com/sports/2018/5/17/trads-cheer-html
Back in 2006-09 we got a cash per diem each day to cover meals. Lodging and transportation was all paid for.
ALSO: I know, in the past they split the band into a "Blue" and "Gold" and they alternated between the
Mens/Womens
* BET
* First Weekend NCAA
* Second Weekend NCAA
* Final Four NCAA
--- (Depending, of course, on how far they get)
So for a given year, for example, the BLUE squad would go to the Mens BET and GOLD, the Womens BET. Then alternate for the First Weekend NCAA....and so on.
I know that Alumni band members have on occasion been asked to play at games and not sure if they do that for Tourney games as I imagine that would be well attended by band members.
I'm also not sure if they try to take more to the Final Four (as we haven't been there in awhile :) )....there are limits to how many can come.
I think they stay in the same place as the Team and travel a lot with them. I'm sure there is separation at points for competitive focus.

IIRC he was Iggy back then... or Gold N Eagle...
Transportation seemed to vary. Sometimes there was a charter flight separate from the team's charter flight. Other times we were on the team's charter flight. One time we flew commercial.

A giant bird.
Ah. I knew one of you but not all of you.
I once asked a band member if they'd accept a bagpiper and was talked out of trying to get in. Still think it was a missed opportunity for the band. If I'd known then that they had free ncaa tickets I'd have gone for it.

I went to the 2007 CBE, 2006-09 BET, and 2009 NCAA. Were you on any of those trips?

I have long advocated for a
lot of bagpipers being in the band. Our team and fans would eventually be able to block the sound out of their heads, but visiting teams and fans would be overwhelmed by the bagpipers. We would never lose another home game. Better yet, take the pipers on road games, including tourneys. We would win the natty every year. ;D
OK, OK. I actually love the sound of bagpipes. Just havin' a little fun at your expense.
Do parents get money from schools to go for free?

Parents never get money for their kids to go to school. Students do.
But if you are asking if Marquette cheerleaders do for their cheerleading, I'm pretty sure the answer is no.

I'm fairly sure what he is asking is whether the players' parents pay their own way or whether Marquette (or the NCAA) pays for them.

Oh. Nevermind then.
Pretty sure families are on their own until the Final Four. And then the NCAA provides some support.

I saw at least one band member for another team playing a tambourine. Even I can do that...

Do members of the band get scholarships? If so, how many and how much?

I wish! I just want a credit and/or a tiny royalty for recording that Pep Band album in in 2006 (I think?)
tbqh i wish they did a better job with including alumni bandos but that died with Doc (Nick Contorno), RIP.
Yes, per diem stipend, lodging & airfare/busfare provided. we're not talking much $ but it was a priceless experience to perform at these tournaments -- I was in Charlotte, NC for the women's C-USA tourney in 2005, Hartford, CT for women's BET in 2006, San Diego for 1st Round Men's NCAA in 2006 (Alabama), Winston-Salem, NC in 2007 for 1st Round Men's NCAA (the first MSU game :( and Manhattan KS for WNIT Championship in 2007. started grad school early otherwise i would have loved to participate in 2008 too. never got to MSG as a bando but went twice as a fan.
Jim McIlvaine used to jam with us too back in the day as he is an avid percussionist, so that was always a good time.
TAMU what did you play?
Baritone

Purdue's Band played "Through the Fire and the Flames" and I thought that was sick song choice - but also very on par for the nerds in that band/crowd. I agree we need to retire some poor song choices on our end - especially "Uptown Funk" - absolutely despise that song.
