The time to reign in Big Tech was a couple of decades ago. Unfortunate Congress--and this is one of the infrequent times that "both sides" is actually accurate--simply refuses to do anything at all.

They don't understand technology. Hard to legislate what's a mystery. In addition, there's no public push for tech company regulation and politicians only do things that are popular (because their job is to be popular and get elected). I mean, there wasn't even much of an uproar when Ajit Pai et al crushed net neutrality. Can't blame the politicians any more than you can blame the american public, imo.
