Gold's 3-point shot is the calling card, and a huge one at that, but against Butler, I saw a stretch of play from him, with and without Oso, that I don't think I'd seen for multiple possessions before.

That Gold/Oso can't always be used due to foul considerations, but it's the most successful 2-man group this season via Net Rating, minimum 200 possessions.

Thank you for this.
Pretty lucky for Marquette fans to have Anonymous Eagle, Cracked Sidewalks and Paint Touches. Throw in Ben Steele, too.
Be awful to solely rely on Dodds
Thank you for you analysis. Great read.
Gold 'n Bear.

Shaka had some glowing words about Gold on his radio show. I think we are going to be seeing a lot of Benny down the stretch.
So Ben wasn't the Butler SOTG, but maybe the one person who said so (that be me) does not deserve to be hanged 😁

Shaka knows the two things Ben needs right now are confidence and experience. Everything else is there.

Everyone here is guilty until proved innocent, and therefore subject to being hanged at the whim of any scooper.
Bent on Benny! Our GOLDfinger!
PT-i see what you did there ;) nice post!

Goose, is Shaka playing the head game?...considering Gold is the only 'big' on the bench. it's BG or...?
Viper
I am sure every coach plays head games to motivate players and have no idea how that works in regards to Ben. As for my opinion, we have only seen glimpses of what Ben will ultimately be and I think Shaka has seen much more from him than we have thus far.
I think Ben is going to play a bigger role the rest of the way and we will have a chance to see what he is capable of going forward.

Agree Goose. My feeling is that Gold is the X-factor in today's game for us. If he can knock down a couple of 3's and force Clingan out of the paint and to run around guarding Gold on the perimeter that bodes well for MU.
Also seems that Ben has a little more bounce/quickness back that was missing earlier this year, that is helping him defend and rebound better.
Elonsmusk, I agree about Ben. IMO, the improved bounce and defense is due to finally recovering from missing two months of offseason conditioning and skill work.

Of concern he has been using a shin wrap the past few games.
Elon
I think Ben is the X factor the rest of the way. Early in the NC schedule I said if Stevie can become a 10+ point guy, it takes them to the next level. He has checked that box the past 8 games and I think if Ben can be a 17+ minute guy that takes them to another level.
Having Ben and Oso on the court at the same time is a great wrinkle for this team. IMO, Ben playing at level that merits 17+ minutes would make them an even more dangerous threat in March. It is time for Ben to do it every game.
Ben drilling triples would really help today. Bring Clingan out, move the rock, and decimate them all over thr floor. Ben has the potential to be a multidimensional scorer and a tremendous player moving forward.
It's almost like Shaka and his staff have proven during his time in Milwaukee, his players get better year-to-year and through the course of a season.
Whaaaaa......?!?!?
Ah, one can dream....Ben Gold UCONN SOGT.

Ben hitting a few would be bigly...but we need to stay close on the boards. We cannot get pounded on the glass like we did in the 1st half vs StJ's. UConn is elite on D...good at rebounding too...need to extend the elbows!!
Today I look for ben to enter before the 4 minute mark to guard Clingan and get him out of the paint while saving Oso fouls.
I always knew we'd see better ben when he played more with the starters.
Today might just be Mr. Gold's coming out party.
