I was there. Remember being in the packed, smoky concourse pregame and watching how hard it was snowing. I always went down by the locker room pregame and that night I stayed upstairs. Fun night for a ten year old.

Love this on how Al goaded the finger:

According to Chris Peppas, the Marquette Tribune's Sports Editor at the time, "Mr. Hughes had been giving Al the raspberries during the game," and so "[w]hen his son missed the last free throws giving Marquette a chance at the end, Al turned toward Mr. Hughes and gave the choke sign."

And Pat Driscoll would have T'd up Al for taunting and MU would have lost the game on technical free throws.

Don't know if I had mentioned this before, but I met Gary Anderson at a wedding last year in Madison.  He was the second leading scorer on Wisconsin that year and we were talking about that game.  He could not have been nicer.
