Anyone have a link to Shaka postgame from last night? Not sure why these are always so hard to find online. But I'm dumb.
Marquette usually posts the home ones on Youtube soon after. Road ones are hit and miss though.
Here is the Nova presser with post game analysis. Go to the 18 minute mark. Lot of praise for Ty.

Follow Marquette basketball on YouTube. Pretty sure they're all there.

It has not been posted on MU or Nova site yet.

I think those are usually just our home games.
Neptune = Wojo
One comment he made about his team after the game granted amongst other comments, but the need to play harder and I had an intense flashback of Wojo and his huddles. Glad those days are gone.
Hoping Coach Neptune stays around for awhile.

Great comparison.

One of my good friends went to Nova (his brother to MU) and we've been calling him Wojo since last year. After the Butler game last week he said he's done watching them until he's fired. He's really lost a lot of the fan base and it happened quickly

Rule 1 of a coaching search: never let an outgoing coach have influence on who the new coach will be.
Nothing against Neptune personally, but I'm glad they are getting burned on that.

I think that's hard though. Replacing a legend, and going outside the "family" is hard for everyone and I think limits your options because coaches KNOW its tough.
Bringing in Neptune, but being willing to cut the cord quickly isn't a bad option. Following the coach who followed the legend may give you better candidates anyway.

I've had the same analogy in my head regarding Wojo/Neptune. Disagree about hoping he'll last for a while. First of all, I doubt it. Nova is too good of a program to cut Neptune any more slack. Secondly, I am a firm believer in having strong conference opponents. Right now it is a case of player talent vs. (lack of) coaching talent. Again...the Wojo comparison works.

So Duke is in trouble
Difference is Neptune seems to be crashing completely.
Neptunes a student who fails out easily with minimal investment.
Wojo was a student who was all Cs and Ds and you're sitting there thinking they might get it or they'll crash completely (which he did eventually).
If Wojo was Neptune we'd have saved ourselves half a decade of the epitome of "don't get too invested in the season but I'll still watch the game for the odd big win"

Very fair points.

Kolek had a great quote about the team's response to hearing the Nova crowd boo Neptune when he was introduced: "They come out, they announced Kyle Neptune and all their fans were booing. We looked at each other, like 'These fans lost confidence in him? Let's go at 'em. Let's take their confidence.' That adds something to us." Certainly prompts some thoughts about when we were experiencing that. In such a better place now.

As long as they have watches of luxury variety the'll be ok
That 30 for 30 Duke LaCrosse doc should have opened people's eyes. Maybe things have changed but that was a total embarrassment.

And Wisconsin. Bo handpicked Gard. Clearly it can work.
To some people here Wojo = Uranus not Neptune
Overall, I'd agree with the idea that the incumbent should have a limited role in selecting his/her replacement.
I'd listen to them, but the goal is to maintain excellence.
Look at us and North Carolina as two examples. We went down the family tree and were done for a couple of decades. UNC did the same thing and bailed on Bill Guthridge fairly quickly. They went to Matt Doherty and that was even worse. They finally found Roy Williams and were back to normal (yes, I know, WIlliams was a UNC tree member but he'd gone to Kansas and done quite well).
Find the best that matches your values and give him the rope to climb or hang himself with!

Didn't Bo sort of force this though? Badgers said they were going to do a national search then Bo said he was coming back only to quit in December leaving them no other option. To Gard's credit, he took that team to the S16 and earned the position.

That's the narrative. How true it is? Hard to say.

The story is that Ryan was going to retire in the off-season, but Gard's dad was diagnosed with brain cancer in the Spring, so he continued coaching. His dad died in November, Ryan retired in December, and he was given the gig.
If that was always the plan or not I don't know...and I don't know if it really matters anyway. Gard was always going to get the job and I am about 99% sure Ryan stuck on because his friend's dad was dying.
And remember this was under Alvarez as AD. If it were under McIntosh, I have no doubt they would have done a full search.

Also gave Bo more time to dispose of the body(ies)

The story I heard was that the utter embarrassment of getting unmercifully blown out by Wojo in Madison sent Bo off to the AutoZone.

"Bo murdered a guy at Autozone" is a bit that's been around since he announced he was retiring. As I recall someone actually posted on Buckyville seriously refuting the story.

Dick Bennet did a similar act which ensured Brad Soderburg got the job.
They have to say they are doing a national search. State hiring laws require it.
But Gard was always going to get the job.
