Ouch. I hope it's a tweak and not a serious sprain. Looked ugly.
Looked very ugly
I can't stomach another late season injury to one of our better players. First. it was Diener, then it was McNeal last year. Man, I hope James doesn't have a serious ankle injury. We're going no where without him.
He is starting the second half. ANkle injury but it is bothering him.
Without a healthy James, I don't know if we beat a suddenly hot Villanova.
DJ is playing so that's a good sign.
He is starting the second half and looks ok running so it might not have been that bad
Have you guys not learned from nearly 3 years of this sh*t....he's fine.

what crap? i saw a kid get his ankle rolled. you kind of sound like the dip shits behind me.
You cannot discount the fact that DJ falls like he was shot from the grassy knoll about once per every three games. That guy has had more "serious looking injuries" from which he has come back IN THE SAME GAME than anyone I can recall.
Look, I love the kid. I have always been on his bandwaggon, even last year when some of the wheels fell off. That said, I am not oblivious to the obvious. DJ either tends to over-dramaticize his in-game injuries or he has the recooperation powers of Wolverine.
No need to get overly defensive when someone calls it out.

This is probably one of the same guys that called Wade a drama queen everytime he got hurt. Dom will be fine.
I watched the game on TV. They replayed the accident. It really looked serious. IMO guys in the NFL had their seasons ended getting their leg/knee rolled on like that. DJ plays extreme. At a level harder than most players. Hence, he gets pounded much more than others. Also he is many times a target to cheap shots. I think we should be thankful he is as tough as he is.

And what do you call the flops from the 6-10's--Butch, Harangody and Singler--when DJ knocks them over like they're ten pins? Dandelions in the wind?
That was a bad ankle roll if you saw it on the replay...and I'd be surprised if his knee isn't hyperextended. TC said after that DJ went into the locker room early at half and rode the bike so he could get back in the game in the second half. Are you seriously calling out the heart and soul of our team? The guy was soaking up IV's pre-UL, and some loons were calling him soft. DJ and JM bring it every game. There is a reason why the other teams are going at him, and it isn't because he is soft. It is because he can dominate the flow of the game on both ends.
For some reason, people seem to think there's an "unwritten rule" about questioning the severity of injuries. When this happens every couple games -- and has for 3 years -- it's a legitimate beef. It's a classic case of the "Boy Who Cried Wolf." One of these days he's going to be seriously injured and everybody will just groan.
He played a great game, by the way.

If you saw the replay you know that was ugly...stop. You're embarrassing yourself. James leg was rolled up on and it did not look good at all. Nothing like someone not out there playing to question another person's pain threshold.
Ridiculous! The kid plays hard, he's small and goes in among the giants, he's going to get banged up from time to time.
I don't care if he whines every game, that was a serious ankle roll for anyone to question it looks cheap and ridiculous.
Chicos - you're right to a point. But based on his play the rest of the game, it obviously WASN'T serious...thank goodness. I agree questioning injuries is "bush league," but at some point you have to get serious about this stuff.

apparently you haven't had an injury lately in a sport, adrenaline takes over. Now I didn't watch this injury, but I have seen some of DJ's other falls, and although they may not be 100% truthful, there right up there. Having your leg rolled up is very painful (happened to me this past year), I finished the match, however we had a night game I couldn't make due to the leg injury, hopefully he is good for monday.
Crean said he'd play Monday but I was at the game and it did'nt look good when he went down. I was surprised he started the second half, but once he got into the flow he jsut kep going. Without suffering the injury myself, i could never comment on its severity or how much it hurt or still hurts.
He is a tough kid though, and we are better with him in the game.

I'm sure he got loads of adrenaline in the locker room.
I'm quite sure many of us on this board have had serious injuries. To paraphrase Lloyd Bentsen...I've had a high ankle sprain and that was no high ankle sprain.
might not have been a high ankle sprain, but any ankle injury, especially from rolling it, hurts like a b*tch, I am sure he wasn't faking it.

So the "written" rule then is to question the credibility of all his injuries? Getting intentionally tackled and almost flipping upside down and landing directly on his wrist? Five bags of IV fluid? A forearm shiver to the face by the same goon who tackled him a couple weeks earlier? Getting rolled on his ankle by a 285 pound center? We aren't talking freshman year DJ leg cramps here (like we saw every 30 seconds in the Tenn v. Memphis game tonight I might add). It is ridiculous to call DJ out on that foul today and inferentially compare it to the flops of Butch or Harangody.
I think it's a credit to James to get knocked around as badly as he has and make it back in the game. His toughness is what makes it ridiculous to question both whether he's whimping out or looking for attention when he gets banged up and to still be holding your breath and speculating as to whether he's going to be alright everytime he gets banged up. This won't be the last time he goes to the floor. Just believe he's tough enough to make it back out there and play hurt until it's proven otherwise.

Here's a legit question:
Why does is matter?
DJ and MU could lie and fake injuries all season. What's the difference? Are they screwing Vegas or something?
As long as the team is putting forth their best effort, I'm not sure that I care about some tiny details on whether or not I'm well informed about DJ's injuries. I'm not on the team. I just pay for the tickets to watch them play. DJ doesn't "owe me" anything.
For the record, I do think that his injuries are legit. The guy is an athletic freak and is the fastest and highest leaping player every time he steps on the court.
He proved at the pre-draft camp that he was a freakish athlete as he tested better than most guards. With that in mind, why is it so hard to believe that a player that is faster, can jump higher and goes to the rim more that most guards end up with more injuries?
It seems plausible to me.

Whats the difference? Easy. We are winning. The team is playing very good and some posters have to nitpick and complain about something because they either hate the kid, hate the coach, hate the nickname , are not real MU fan or are just sick in the head with some insane illogical reason to just hate. Regardless of what the actual reason is, there is always some underlying reason.
I am not questioning his injuries. I am questioning his history of overreacting. And I was simply agreeing with MUCam's point.
If you guys think MUCam and I are the only people in the Bradley Center that has noticed this, you're sadly mistaken. In fact, you are likely among the 15 to 20 people in the entire building who disagree.
You and MUCam are both right on this one. DJ seems to have some sort of major issue every couple of games, and he writhes around on the ground like he was shot, and then he comes back after a few plays like nothing was wrong. At some point, it becomes natural to question the histrionics, because if these were injuries that were as serious as DJ's reactions made them out to be, he wouldn't be able to come back and play.
I love the kid, he plays tough, and everything, but I get tired of how every time he falls to the ground he acts like someone is cutting his appendix out with a rusty knife. If you are legitimately hurt, like he was when he had the wrist injury, that is one thing, but cut down on the drama.
Questioning a pattern of overreaction to injuries is perfectly legitimate.
You honestly believe he overreacted yesterday? Again anyone who saw the replay yesterday would not be questioning the fact that he got hurt yesterday. Same with the 2 falls he had on his wrist this year. Its too bad DJ is not tough enough of player in the eyes of most in the Bradley Center. ::)
The kid gives it his all and yet we have to question his toughness? Please. If you honestly believe he overreacted yesterday, I say you and the majority at the BC should air your disappointment to TC, DJ and the new AD. Maybe you and the BC crowd can establish some sort of toughness requirement that TC has to follow when he recruits players. ;D

Did you see the replay of the incident? Just curious.
If you watched the Memphis vs Tennessee game, Chisolm fell funny and either tweaked his knee or ankle. He rolled around in pain for a little bit, then he played again later.
I suppose all of the college athletes that fight through pain are just drama queens. Or, maybe some posters on this board should just stop running their mouths and just say thank you to the players.

We can just agree to disagree with this one.
I don't know exactly what qualifies as an "overreaction" (too subjective), but these are college kids playing a game.
If a player gets knocked down, I'm not going to question his reaction(s). Again, he is a 20 yr old kid playing college basketball.
I'm not going to nit-pick because he stays on the floor for 30 seconds and makes a painful face.
It's not hurting anybody. Just like his high-socks aren't hurting anybody :-)

You know, it's funny you say this, last night I was watching the Memphis-Tennessee game at a friend's house and we had a discussion regarding injuries on the court. It was actually brought up by his nephew who is from Brazil and a huge soccer fan but not a basketball fan at all. He said, "How can guys that are 6 foot eight and 240 pounds get knocked over so easily by a 6 foot 180 pound guy?" Of course he was referring to the "flop" we are all so familiar with. The histrionics, as you so aptly refer to this as, are laughable. In this particular case the ref did not blow the whistle which added to the ridiculousness of those types of antics.
What we really got into in our discussion is how "temporary" some of these so called injuries become when the circumstances change. I know you've all seen this: A player goes down with an "injury" but play does not immediately stop due to the flow of the game or the action on the court. The player is writhing in pain on the floor, but suddenly the action returns to his side of the court and he realizes an opportunity to score. He miraculously gathers himself, gets to his feet for the uncontested layup or dunk.
I'm not saying DJ is "acting" but it made me think of this scene. Doesn't that almost scream "Hey stop all the action, look at me, I'm hurt." And I love it when it happens after a particularly bad play by the victim. He just had his lunch handed to him, or he bounced the ball off his foot, etc. So look for the pity because you screwed up.

Why do I care what other fans think?
Now people are critical of DJ for doing something that makes the opposition dislike him?
(also, I would argue that they hate him because he is good, but blame it on the injury stuff...but that should be it's own thread).
I've sprained my ankle many times. It hurts. Then the pain goes away. What is surprising about that? One time, I sprained it in a game and I played on it for the rest of the game. Then, I had to sit out the next game because of it. Like someone said, adrenaline takes over. With the way DJ plays, he puts himself in harms way a lot more than your average basketball player. He is a higher risk for injury. People want him to penetrate. Then, when he gets knocked around in there, people complain that he is faking injury. I don't get it.

You're missing the point, if you would think objectively you would agree the guy milks every injury...its really annoying. Its not about caring about what opposing fans think, I'm not losing sleep about it. It just goes to show that he's a drama queen. However, in your initial post you stated that opposing fans don't like him because he acts like he's hurt. I would argue that opposing fans are not very objective, so I don't think that helps your point of view.
Anyway, I still don't get why people are making an issue or are so annoyed by this. Even if you do think he's "overreacting", please tell me how it actually effects the game. I just don't see it.
