Just watching the game and it sure doesn't seem as if the crowd is into the game.Wish they would get a little wild.
Maybe because we had three turnovers and five missed shots in last eight possessions. Better play more smart
I sit in 219, on the aisle, adjacent to the student section. In my 11 years of
having these seats I have seen some of the greatest displays of kids
"taking advantage" of their MU education.
Today, two girls, who are not season tik holders, were in the seats next to
us. One girl said: "I'm really surprised that none of those students are
drinking and how sober they all seem", my wife and I concurred. Then the other
girl said: "I work with a girl who went to MU and she was a huge boozer,
heck she still is and these kids seem nothing like her".
It's been said before, but something is different (wrong) with this class of kids.

Yeah -- I'm going to get up at 10:00 a.m. just so I can consume more alcohol. It's not like I had enough the night before.
Please... for you older folks who are now out of college, quit with the "you damn whippersnappers need to drink more!" comments. They're quite ridiculous. You can comment all you want about the lack of excitement or energy from the student section, but alcohol doesn't have a damned thing to do with it. I rarely drink before games and have always went by the creed that if you can't enjoy the game/atmosphere for what it is -- if you need to pound beers to have a good time -- then you're probably not someone I want to watch a game with.
I totally agree. When I was a student, my friends and I went to every home game essentially sober. We were there to watch the game and be part of the action, not to stumble around wasted. Sure, we pre-gamed a bit, and we did have a beer or two during the game, but we didn't go to the games plowed.
Drunk fans at games are usually the dumbest ones in the crowd, and they don't add anything to the atmosphere in a stadium. You can be sober and be loud and crazy, and you often will have more effective cheers and taunts if you can see straight.
That was what the ticket stub $1 pitchers were for at Murphy's or Caffrey's after the game. We would gather about fifteen or so stubs, and then split them between five guys, and drink more after that. I had some fun nights after Marquette victories during my senior year in 2002-03.

I'm not trying to make it sound like the current class of students are better than the ones from back in your day, but maybe there is a correlation between the quick rise of MU in the national academic rankings and the downturn of the "I'm in college, I gotta DRINK!!!!!!" attitude in MU students.
Besides, do we REALLY want MU to be known for being the hardest drinking school in the state? I'd be happy letting UW bestow that "honor."
this topic was just discussed ad nauseum in the thread titled "Friday night is huge", in reference to the Pitt game.

If you don't want me to be sober at the game, write me a check for $35 so I can have a few $7 beers.

agreed, i have better things to spend my cash on.
being drunk does not equal a better louder fan. maybe it does for some, but if it takes alcohol to get you excited about mu basketball that's sad....besides, i'd rather get drunk after a victory for cheaper than $7 a beer.
i'm not bragging here, far from it, but I don't drink during the games and I am one of the loudest and most obnoxious students in the section. ask a number of posters here that will back me on this. The ideas that drinking equals better fans is absolutely asinine and i can't believe we're talking about this in a thread again.
