Title: [Cracked Sidewalks] Bracketology: First Look at 2024
Post by: brewcity77 on January 13, 2024, 11:04:52 AM
A year ago, we all would've been overjoyed to see Marquette showing up as a 3-seed in bracket projections, but considering the summer expectations around this team, it feels like a disappointment. Today we have our first full S-Curve and Bracket Projection for the 2024 NCAA Tournament, with what would be an all-time high 8 bids for the Big East since the 2014 Reformation.

Weren't Scoopers saying we weren't getting to 5 bids this year?

I say there is no chance of Big East getting 8 bids.

I was the one that said that. I didn't plan on having Marquette giveaway three games to providence, seton hall and butler when I make the comment. To be honest I could care less if we get 3 or all 11 if we make it.

I also don't think the Big East gets 8 bids. A few years ago, I had 9/10 teams projected in at one point in January, but conference play beats teams down. I think 6 is more likely, but Seton Hall and Butler (both in Dayton) have pretty good cases right now.

Howard - U don't care if they get a 3 or an 11 ?  That's ridiculous

I don't care if the conference gets 3 teams in or 11. I only care about marquettes seed.

On the upside, if you are an 11 and the 3 in your region gets upset, you have the same path as a 3 to a Sweet 16, just in reverse order.

Could or could not?

As I see how many Big East teams have improved I am shifting my focus on MU just making the field. I can concern myself with seeds once MU shows that the recent performances are just a slump and not a reflection of how they stack up against conference teams this season.

Howard .. my bad

FWIW, Lunardi has MU as a 4 seed right now, and falling like a rock

I just hope our players and coaches don't start quitting at halftime. Or maybe they shouldn't even bother going to the arena. It's pretty hopeless. We'll be lucky if the CBI will have us.

I think that's fair. 3/4 are reasonable right now. It depends a lot on what you value.

Huge week.

Two wins and back in the solid 3/2 convo long term look.

Two losses and sheer panic, full blown "Will this team even dance" discussions at 2-5. Spoiler alert, they will dance even with a 2-5 start.

Split and tread water, start looking more like a 4/5 type seed than a sure fire protected seed.

That's why today is so huge. Heading into a road game against Pitinos Johnnies on a 3 game losing streak, with B2b home losses and a major cloud over this years team would be a bad place to be in.

Hopefully Marquette plays like it's March...
This past March at the Garden or against Vermont and not MSU or the previous 10 Marches.

PS: thanks again for doing this Brew

I agree with Dr. V., especially the last sentence.  Thanks initiative Brew!
