Queery
We can't make layups, so why diner think we can make shots from 21 feet out?
How does an entire team literally forget how to shoot?
Kam: 8/42 (19%) over the past 5 games, 27/61 (44.3%) over the first 11
TKO: 1/12 (8.3%) over the past 3 games, 20/46 (43.5%) over the first 13
Gold: 0/7 (0%) over the past 3 games, 16/42 (38.1%) over the first 13
Norman: 0/7 (0%) over the past 10 games, 2/5 (40%) over the first 6
Joplin, Stevie, and Sean have been better from three recently (with a small sample size for the latter 2). Sean may be gone for the season.
We won't win another game until the above gets resolved

That's fair.
Obviously, the solution is for the entire team to stop shooting lay ups and open 3s.
If MU stops shooting, can they win 2-0?
You'll always miss the shot you don't take, or something like that.
If I were the coach I would be telling them "fire away".

Yep. The last thing the team needs is to be hesitant. Take your shots.
I'd be telling them to fire away. Then I'd be tampering with guys on other rosters who have shown the ability to shoot and try getting them to enter the portal and come to MU after this season so my offense works the way it is designed to.
Can we get some big Milwaukee area donors to get Milan and Kon to reconsider wanting to play for the hometown school? Maybe Jankowsky for fun?

This is why I'm still optimistic, despite the slump. So much looks so good, that if they can get closer to their earlier numbers, this keep will be absolutely rocking again. So many of these missed shots look like good shots, you have to figure this will turn around.

Same. Unless we accept that TKO and Kam can't shoot despite a huge sample size saying they can, I expect us to rebound.
There a minimum of a dozen high school players playing JV basketball that would have higher shooting % over past four games with the open looks MU has had. I hate losing and I really hate folks jumping off the bandwagon, but this is mainly a shooting issue.

I'd add a bit that the shooting woes are leading to some bad habits for the team. When the shots don't go, they have a tendency to frustration dribble with their head down and no one backfills spaces on the line (nor wants to take a shot). The habits/frustration are definitely mounting.
Man idk. I'm torn.
Watching the game I was almost pulling hair out how often we were clanking 3s, but anytime Kolek, Kam, Joplin, Ben, Zaide are taking open 3s I still feel really good about the shot. We need 3s to win games.
Gotta keep letting em fly when they are open. Just a weird stretch.

Rebound as it relates to our shooting, that is!
Although,, def rebounding has been interesting. Fairly ok / mediocre except in a few of the losses (pur, Wisc, sh)

Yes.
Like a career .300 hitter who goes a week without a base hit. The next week he goes 2--4 every night. Slump over. What's odd with MU's shooting woes, it seems to be effecting everyone at once.
As I said in another thread, I'm more concerned about our depth long term than I am short term shooting problems.
The one interesting thing I thought I saw a lot of last night, and it could have been just in my own head, is the amount of hesitation that seemed to span across the team. As if they lost their confidence and for only a split second delayed their shot which then took them out of their normal motion. It wasn't like a fake or anything to throw off the defense, it was much quicker and just a tick off.
If that's true, how do you build confidence to get it to go in, if it's not going in?

I agree with this. Just seems like we are hesitating and/or passing up on good shots, to then get a worse shot in the possession.

Yep.
There's no other choice. The offense can't work without us taking - and making - 3s.
Gotta keep firing, especially our best shooters.

Yep. Need to make a reasonable % of 3s to keep things open in the lane for PnR stuff and the cuts and whatever. Opponents lately challenging MU to shoot wide open 3s while clogging the lane to prevent stuff at the rim. 5-31 really enables the opponent(s).
I agree with a few recent post here about players having good shots and maybe hesitating because they're looking for someone else to have a better shot. Unselfish play is essential. And admirable. BUT Do not hesitate, pull the trigger. Shoot like you have no conscience. Maybe bring in the girls team for a pep talk. I saw the women play Seaton Hall the other night and shoot 50 percent. It sounds crazy but I'm reaching here. It might remind the team that shooting is all about rhythm. Get some rhythm in your game. Get your stroke back.
We still have the same starting five. And together they will endure this if they have the will and the termination. Come together. Leave it all out there. You have no other choice at this point and that was always what was required to win games. Forget the rotations and who plays better in certain lineups. It's all down to the guys who come out hungry when the ball is tipped at the start. Play hard, get a lead and sustain it. Defense is key. Play soft and lose your hard on or play like you could stiff the opponent for forty minutes. And win. I apologize for sounding crude, but it's the only way to get back to your game. If you want to get back to winning, and get your confidence back, swallow the pill and push it harder. You're never out of it until you quit. I hope I don't get banned for my comments in this regard because I care about what happens to this team going forward. Triangle.

True. No one wanted the ball or wanted to shoot. They were willing to pass it and let someone else miss. Practice and hit shots, play with a chip on the shoulder and know you are good. Tyler and Adam are good shooters. Jop is a great catch and shoot guy. As Walt Disney said, "when you believe a thing, believe it all over, implicitly and unquestionably." To our team: Believe!
