Agree completely. With the system they play, everyone has a green light or no one has a green light. Play defense and fire away on offense. That is my kind of basketball!!

Agree...the shots we were missing in the first half were wide open....we just missed.... Shaka in his post game comments with Homer and Tony alluded to that.......in the second half, they fell......that is the sport
It helps playing at home when you're shooting that poorly. Do that on the road and a decent team stretches the lead and crowd energy sinks you.

I think that when you're playing at home in front of a high energy supportive crowd, it's easier to overcome possession killing 3 point misses by bad shooters.
Need to play smarter and tighter on the road to win. So in my mind, yes I don't think bad shooters should make a habit of taking 3s on the road.

Until Sean and Stevie prove they can make shoots they will almost always be open in the flow - other teams would rather they take wide open looks than our other guys take contested ones. I'm not clear on what you mean by "if it's their best option", but Stevie only seems to take the wide open corner 3.With Sean, I'm not so sure.

By "if it's their best option," I mean as long as they don't have someone wide open under the basket or something similar.
But my larger point is that there are a number of Scoopers who say that Sean and Steve shouldn't be allowed to shoot. That's just dumb. Everyone on the court should be allowed to shoot "their shot." The last thing anyone wants is for players to hesitate or think too much out there.
I have never once said that Stevie or Sean shouldn't be allowed to shoot. I will admit to saying, "Nooo!" the first couple times each rose up to shoot today. Eventually it became the ol' "Nooo! ... Yes!"
This is what I've tried to say in multiple game threads. Is it frustrating seeing our worst shooters miss a bunch of threes? Yeah, it can be.
But the path for this team to make a final four includes Stevie and Sean shooting confidently. If they don't shoot those shots, MU's ceiling is capped. And the key to the offense busting out and becoming the unit it was last year is for them to keep shooting and force teams to guard them out there so they can more easily force rotations and get better shots for their better scorers.

Maybe I've missed it but I don't think anyone has said that Sean and Stevie "shouldn't be allowed to shoot". Oso has only taken one shot outside of 7 feet (today, he missed badly). He knows what "his shot" looks and limits himself accordingly. Just because a guy is small doesn't mean 3s are "his shot". I'm OK with Stevie taking a few uncontested 3s from the corner. And if Sean can continue to hit in the clutch like he did today - OK. But they're pretty much unguarded at the 3 point line right now for a reason. Wide open, last 10 seconds of the shot clock, fine. Until they earn a longer leash, imo the percentages say no.

I said in the game thread in the first half that Stevie shouldn't shoot anymore. I was pretty frustrated when I wrote it. Was pleasantly surprised to see him and Sean knock down a couple each in the second half. Nevertheless, for most of this season, they have really struggled from beyond the arc. Today's second half will not change the way opponents defend us - Stevie and Sean are going to have to make 3s on a consistent basis before teams stop giving them the open 3.

And that's why they have to take them......to get opponents to defend us differently......if they don't take them opponents will never defend us differently.
Ps don't look now but Joplin is now making a higher percentage from 3 than Kam is........it's almost like 3 point shooting can go through peaks and valleys during a season.

This might again be a case of being biased by the (successful) result, but it sure looked like Stevie's form on the two makes was different than what he had been doing.
All season his 3s looked to me like two-handed push shots, but on his two makes it appeared like he had much better rotation. There was actual backspin on the balls rather than waffling them towards the rim.
Like Oso's FTs, I hope Stevie can make the improvement stick.

MU's offense is dependent on taking open 3's when the opportunity presents itself. If Tyler drives the lane and kicks to an open Sean, or Stevie, or Chase in the corner and they pass up the shot, Shaka is not going to be happy. The worst thing a player in a shooting slump can do is to start thinking about missing and stop shooting. Remember, all these guys were big-time scorers in high school. And even if their shooting is streaky, they are really fun to watch.
MU's offense isn't just dependent on that, it is flat out designed for that.

Exactly. If the leash was on Sean we may have lost that game yesterday. If you are open, shoot.
With streaky shooters, expect streaky results.
This team and the scheme is good enough to get good looks for Kam/jop/tyler/ben while allowing some others to pass up their looks.

I agree with this analysis. No problem with Sean taking open 3's. Did not like one he took without any passing in the possession, but others were fine.
Jop going 1-9 from 3 today killed us. Will be really hard to win against good teams if Jop continues to get max minutes, and continues to struggle offensively (95 O-Rating for the season).
My observation about Sean Jones was that he didn't jump as high on his three point attempts yesterday.
That gave him better control and improved accuracy.

Well, I can imagine we'd lose to Villanova if we had Scheierman and he missed all seven 3-pointers he took (as he did in Creighton's home loss to Nova).
He's a decent-to-good player whose main role is to shoot 3s - nearly two-thirds of his attempts are from beyond the arc. For a 3-point specialist, he's got a pedestrian percentage (.363). That's lower than those of Kolek, Kam, Joplin and Gold. Going into yesterday's game, he was shooting a pretty poor 34%.
Would I take Scheierman? Sure, but certainly not over Oso, Kolek or Kam.
He's basically a poor man's Sam Hauser. Does similar things as Sam did but doesn't shoot nearly as well.

Precisely - happy new year Rico
Rico - what are your favorite cab's?

Depends on vintage and part of Napa they come from. Some good stuff coming from Paso at the moment as well. Prices have gotten out of hand on Napa cabs because of the 2020 fires and most top producers skipping that vintage. '21 and '23, though, are great vintages
Caymus is such a fruit bomb and over the top but can get away with the price because of the name

They may not be The Rolling Stones in your eyes but imagine dragon deez nuts across your face.
Also - I remember my first steak and grocery store bottle of wine.
Congratulations on your achievement last night. I'd imagine you also enjoyed some nuts across your face too. Probably Ricos.

Point Warrior: Rico, what are some of your favorite Cabs?
Rico: I have none, just copy and pasting what I learned from ChatGPT.

You drink Caymus. Move along.

Most Napa cabs are overpriced. Left bank wines for the money are my choice and now with a wine glut in France there are some super bargains

I haven't bought a lot of Napa Cabs recently. Need to find a good wine shop and find someone that knows wine with regards to Bordeaux. Had a nice 2017 CDP last night. Those have started to jump in price, too.

Agree on the bargains. Been able to get a lot of nice cdp's for a song.

And you're a CDP guy? Soooo predictable. Hey, I'm a wanna be elitist and I drink CDPs. Carry on. And keep up your good work on your ChatGPT prompts.

No, I drink a variety of wines. Keep my options open. Goes in cycles. But I never drink Caymus.

I believe you. I wouldn't expect a guy like you would like anything that is mainstream and wildly popular. But that's cool. But it is funny that you call Caymus a fruity bomb and drink CDP, and CDP's are notoriously fruity.

Because something is wildly popular and mainstream doesn't mean it's good.
Drink plenty of mainstream wines. Just not Caymus, because it's bad

It's never been about nuts musk. It's about the creation of line, the set up, discovering a true mark, the reeling in sequence and finally the culmination.
A cat and mouse game if you will.
To simplify what transpired as some sort of sophomoric joke truly shows the level of insecurity you display.
Enjoy your chuldrens steak and kiddy cocktail wine.
Happy new year Lonnie.
No dog in the fight here. Elon lost hours ago and now it's just painful to watch. Call a truce. Find some middle ground. Wasn't Davante Gardner fun to watch at the FT line?

Happy New Year to you as well. May your obsession with nuts be fulfilled, and hopefully this year will be the year you get a clue about basketball. But no doubt, it was amazing Oso got 9 rebounds, just think if they counted all of his backtaps as rebounds too??!!!
Hopefully your sophomoric "sense of humor" graduates to an adult level this year too. Your insecurity won't ever go away though. It's been a lifelong thing for you.

I'm happy to learn new things about basketball and statistical nuance.
I'm also happy to see you keep eating out of the trash over and over again. Win win.

If you like smokey reds, the best vintage is always the year after the burn. 21 is undervalued.
As for Cabs, coming from someone who lived 25 minutes from Napa, they are either good or bad. There are no average Cabs. As a result, I am a big Zin fan.

So, I'd prefer Zin over Cab anyway. Big, bold Zinfandels are wonderful. More versatile as a food pairing than people think, imo.
The producers in Napa willing to make good Merlots are a value as well, especially off Howell Mountain. I'm a sucker for Freemark Abbey Merlots

Big Merlot fan. A bit surprised by the reco that it's now a summer wine best served chilled. wtf?
Best Zin fields are in LoCa. Anything in Napa or Sonoma are transplanted from there. Also, don't sleep on Livermore.
I know nothing about wine, but my neighbor is the sommelier at a local restaurant. He recommends this website for recommendations: https://mt.wine.
