1- found a way to come back, hold on and take the W
2- fill in the rest!
3. Second half defense was next level.
4. Huge seeing Stevie and Sean knock down some shots in the second half.
5. Oso was a stud on the boards. Now about those missed chippies...
6. CBS feed was bad for some
7. Celebrations are for locker rooms, not after dunks and 3's. Other than that, good game Jop!

To be fair, the dunk celebration led to an easy Creighton bucket before the game was over. Shaka was livid.
BTW, Blue Jay fans crying all over Twitter regarding some possessions where Shaka was on the court.

Fair criticism.
On another subject ...
We beat a quality opponent in a game in which our big 3 combined to go 12-for-38 (31.6%) with 9 turnovers. A credit to the defense and rebounding effort, and major kudos to role players like Sean, Stevie and Jop for stepping up large.

He was on the court several times. I was waiting for the officials to warn him about it.

Agreed. Shows our ceiling when we're hitting on all (or most) cylinders, which didn't happen offensively.
Need to start seeing more consistency to get where we want to go.

I come out of this game very encouraged.
When teams are giving Sean, Stevie, and Oso 10 feet and they don't want to shoot the open 3, Shaka needs to get a set that runs Kam or Kolek off of them on a dribble handoff, and those two have to be willing to pull until teams can't sag that much. We did it once (cleared out a side for Oso in what looked like isolation and ran Kam off of him in the corner for a 3). Need to see it more.
Glad the defense kept the team in it. Offensively it was a pretty ugly game. But if we can defend like that all season we will (once again) win a lot of games.
18K fans with the students on break is pretty dang impressive.
Only downside is I'm not (and haven't been) sure Creighton is very good. The idea that Ashworth was going to be an upgrade from Nembhard is LOL funny. He's a mid major talent. Kalk is slow and soft, but decent defensively. Alexander is a good player but shouldn't be on the ball so much. But he has to be to make any offense happen. I'd be surprised if they finished top 4 in the BE.

Was surprised at how mediocre Kalkbrenner played overall-
That's a guy who has eaten our lunch seemingly more often than not

I'd have to agree on Creighton despite them being a Q1A win at the moment. Nembhard and Kaluma made them a much more dynamic team. They were killed by the portal this year. Ashworth doesn't look like he can be very effective in the big east.

Creighton's equivalent of Scoop was already hard on Ashworth even before this game. Their newspaper recommended benching him.
Jop dunked, Jolp celebrated.

Dougie Sr. was on the floor more than Kalk. Should have been Teed up after that offensive foul call that went the other way late.
FTs mattered today

Nah.
It's a national story at this point. Refs will be watching. Hopefully it doesn't cost us anything.

Very weak with the ball. Our guys definitely got into his head.
McDermott hasn't learned that you need a bench to win at the highest level of the Big East. He had three guys play 35+ minutes and neither Scheirmann or Alexander ever got a minute to catch their breath. I suspect they'll be 4th or 5th when all is said and done. I was stunned how scared that Ashworth kid played.
8. Stevie with solid defense and showing his value to the team today. Proper charge call against Alexander late. Stevie moving laterally or even backwards. Alexander with the shoulder drop followed by the push off. Same play happened early in DePaul game and charge call followed.
(Much better thread title than my lame attempts.)

We outscored them by 8 at the line, 13-5, so Ft did matter. The teams percentages didn't matter, but the total attempts and makes certainly did. Which I'm guessing is why Dr B pointed it out.

Yep, everything you said is correct.
For a bit of scoop history, the whole #FTsnomatta bit, was and always has been a comment about team FT% being a largely irrelevant stat.
FTR matta
FT% no matta (though technically mattas a very little bit)

Of course you knew my sarcastic comment is actually about ft rate. With the four factors, it's VERY rare for a team to win the game and not win eFG rate. In fact, MU lost that by a wide margin which is even more unusual.
Coming into the game, Creighton's defensive free throw rate was an incredible #1 in the country at 13% versus a 33% percent national average. That's why their fans are whining with their 16 fouls and our resulting free throws (with many coming at the end). So yes, incredibly to some, free throws mattered (as did OR rate and turnover rate).
MU had 7 of their 16 FTA in the last minute or so when Creighton was fouling.
The refs let 'em play pretty much the entire game.

Yup. The threshold for a foul inside was pretty high. I'm glad we adjusted to it.

Oh I was aware. I just noticed Jay Bee had dropped the ball and stepped up to fill in for him
