Title: MU a 5 seed to play...
Post by: downtown85 on February 22, 2008, 02:15:11 PM
... 12 seed Davidson, according to today's Lunardi bracketology.  I would hate that match up.

I know we got a bunch of games left and the BE tourney but I hope we don't screwed again this year by the committee.

Don't worry we'll get screwed.

By Lunardi's projection we just add 2 to that so we'll be a 7 seed. Works every year.

What you say is funny because it's true.  However, we probably deserved our seed the last two years.

2006 Pomeroy Rank - 28  = Pomeroy seed of 7 (actual 7)
2007 Pomeroy Rank - 38  = Pomeroy seed of 10 (actual 8)

Heck... maybe we were over-seeded last year.  Who was it that was saying "be thankful you even got in"?  There may have been some truth to that...

Current Pomeroy Rank - 12 = Seed of 4

We'll still end up with a seven seed.

Looking at that bracket, I think I would like to be a 3 or a 6 this year.

I don't like the match up with Davidson, but I would love being in the top half of that bracket with the teams he has there.

Duke, Gonzaga/Arizona, Purdue.

Teams I absolutely hope we can avoid early on in the bracket: Carolina, UCLA, Kansas, Stanford, K-State, Indiana, Oklahoma come to mind.

A draw with Duke/Memphis/Tenn. at the top half (guessing MU will wind up as either a 4 or 5 seed) will be fine by me. You're going to have to play someone really tough in March, and I'd take my chances with one of that trio than the one's mentioned above.

Call me crazy but I would rather play Davidson instead of an ACC or Pac 10 team like Miami or Oregon.

I know Davidson almost beat NC, Duke and NC State on the road but I think we can match up with them.  We can throw McNeal, James and Cube all on Curry who is Davidson's main scorer.  In my opinion teams from big conferences have the talent from top to bottom to compete against us unlike your mid-major teams.  Need less to say, no matter who we draw, I will be worried.

Yeah, no sh*t....why don't you like davidson?  Sure 12 seeds usually fair well, but if you get by them you play a 4 seed, which is a world away from playing a 1-3 seed.  You want to play the big ten or the sec again?  We saw how that turned out...Davidson? Bring it.

Agreed.  I realize the "risk" of a 5/12 upset but if you can beat the 12 seed you going on to play the 4 seed would be nice.

None of the seeding matters. It all comes down to matchups. The 5-12 seed in one bracket could be totally different than in another bracket. If we play our best, the chips will fall where they may. You've got to win games, no matter what your seed is. In 2003 we had to face Holy Cross, Missouri, Pitt, and the #1 team in the country, Kentucky, to get to the Final 4. There were a lot easier paths than that, but we played good ball and made the Final 4.
