Alright - this whole topic is COLEish - but with a down BE the schedule really looks much softer than in past years. Do we roll into Storrs on Feb 17th 22-2 and likely #1 (seems plausible)? Could we make it through the rest of the regular season without another loss (seems possible if unlikely)? Do we lose again in 2023/2024 (not an entirely ridiculous thought)? Does Shaka ever lose again?
Conference road goes against ranked teams are always rough. There is a game plan now to use against MU and there are some good teams. I voted UConn, but any road game against the non-dregs will be a challenge.

Agreed that road games will be tough. Though I don't see many teams staying with MU at Fiserv. Lot of relaxing second halves like last night.
Let's think negative.

Could be December 30th.

Sure - but the separation between Tier 1 and Tier 2 in the BE is so much bigger than in previous years but we're really good - we need to play ball, but taking anything other than a Q1A loss this year will be disappointing.
I don't think there is a more than a hair's breadth of disagreement between us.
There is a long road and every game cannot be played like it is an elimination game. Playing good against top competition is what I want to see. There is low hanging fruit in the BE this year, but I am not going to lose sleep if there is a dud or two moving into BE play.
All that matters is getting ready for the games that mean the most. That is why the UW loss did not bother me a great deal. If that ends up being one on their bad losses, I will be a very happy fan.

Yes, I mean the stats of winning night in and night out, even when favored, are really tough to overcome.
But on a related note - how many more losses can we take and realistically expect a 1 seed? I'd say only 2 or 3 (depending on who they are to) - and going 4-0 against UCONN and Creighton will be a pretty tall task.
I think we can still win it all as a 2 or 3, but the historical drop off between 1 seeds and 2 or worse is huge.

This. Stuff happens - bad shooting nights (even at home), uninspired stretches, foul trouble, injuries. In the moment, I won't be happy when something costs us a game. But big picture, I wouldn't be surprised if we lose a couple we "shouldn't" but then go on the road and beat UConn.
I also wouldn't be overly surprised if this team runs the table.
I'd say the next loss is at Seton Hall on January 6th, just a feeling. Don't think were gonna see many more though, 7 more tops.

Agree with not losing sleep if we have a dud in BE play Goose.
Wisconsin staying ranked and successful=good news for Marquette on Selection Sunday. I have never understood scoopers who would prefer that UW fail, affecting the NET factor of our game vs. them more negatively on Selection Sunday. I get the hatred of UW, but I think the question is "what's best for Marquette?".
Teams have figured Marquette out. Probably going to lose another dozen games or so
This poll is such hubris, gonna ruin the season vibe.

Don't sweat it, PW. It's not as if anyone has mentioned us beating Vermont yet.
This board has to learn to take it one game at a time.

And move on from losses.
The Providence team that destroyed the Badgers is going to be tough. That's always been a tough venue for MU.
I voted never, because no matter what the scoreboard says, as long as we try hard and are good sports we'll be winners! Amiright?

That's not what Archie Bunker would say.
Very COLE thinking, gonna crush Providence by 10. Did you not watch last night's game?

Always the risk of a MU player getting beat up by a distraught Providence fan.

FYI - MU won!

That video clip never gets old. On a separate note, the creation of this thread guarantees a loss to Notre Dame. Book it.

It's a long season and lots of stuff can happen - bad shooting nights, illness, injury, etc. One game at a time is the way Shaka tries to get the players to focus, and I try to do the same.

I try to focus on
four games at a time...and not necessarily the next four. But always four. No more. No less.
I bet on Novascoop, a loss @ Wojo led MU squad in '16 wasn't even an option.
A lot of victories forthcoming for this team.....but sometimes those road conferences are very difficult to come if the 3 isn't dropping.
I'm the preseason game by game prediction thread i picked us to lose at Providnece. Not because we have any business losing there, but because I figured there would be one WTF loss during the season. Weird crap always happens in that building

Sound policy.
But know this: If we do not win the national title, it will have been your fault.

hate over logic
this is like asking...do i look fat in this? ;D
we need to be able to develop some confidence in the guys coming off the bench. need to give them some real PT baby cuz so much chit can happen between now and april 8th
Either at PC next Tuesday or we start BE play 13-0 before losing to UConn.
rocket
I think there is confidence in guys coming off the bench. I have no concern when 3-4 bench guys are in the game at the same time and think they have done well. I think some focus too much on how they look when there are five bench guys in the game at the same time. I think the depth of the bench is a very big positive this year.
