BEEP! Only 13 hours until cubs tickets go on sale! Whose ready to sit in the virtual waiting room? ;D
Will they be wearing patches on their jerseys this year commemorating the 100th anniversary of their last championship?
only if the brewers wear patches for a winning season!
Will the Brewers wear a "0" patch for having won nothing?
I'm sure the Brewers have thought up another genius marketing campaign commemorating 1982. Or they may be trying to locate a few more players on the Mitchell Report to add to their roster.
This thread may be the lamest example of smack talk I have ever seen.
Agreed Navin. Fans from a team that haven't won a WS in 100 years, making fun of another team that has never won a WS.
At least I don't blame the Brewers woes on a dude with a green turtleneck and a walkman! ZING!
Almost two decades of losing, Brewer fans have really came back to the team. Way to go! Only one or two more seasons until Milwaukee falls back into the abyss that is Milwaukee sports.
This also coming from someone who used to enjoy Milwaukee sports prior to coming to Marquette.
Ok, it has begun, yet another Milwaukee/Chicago pissing contest.
If Milwaukee is so pathetic go transfer to Loyola, and don't forget to pay the .90 your insignificant state charges to cross the border.

I don't travel that route. Nor was it turning into a pissing match, but okay, go ahead.
I never said Milwaukee was pathetic. I love both cities, unfortunately, being from Illinois I am somehow instantly a target of hatred. Chicago is big, offers a lot more. Milwaukee is smaller which has its own bright spots.
You my friend are the one that came into a Cubs thread to hijack it. Which is typical...
As a White Sox fan, I will enjoy watching my 2005 World Series Champion DVD this weekend.
(Sorry, couldn't resist jumping in here. I don't hate the Cubs or Brewers.)
Wow this took a serious turn in a hurry. I thought it was supposed to be good-natured ribbing.

I remember when Cub fans were fun and not obnoxious college age punks.
Cubs fans have another year of watching overpaid mediocre players screw up in the outfield, along with more dreams being shattered as Prince rocks Wrigley in the 1st game of the season...
just remember, you can grab all the Japanese players you want, you still won't win a world series, have fun paying over-priced tickets to watch the team lose, and you blame it on Bartman, goat, anything else?
This is fun.

So far they only have pin the syringe nights scheduled for Guillermo Mota, Derrick Turnbow, and Mike Cameron. I really don't get the fascination with signing all these former roid/HGH/banned stimulant users.
just remember Cub fans, when you make fun of the Brewers with these roid players, they just learned from the godfather of steroids, Sammy Sosa... calling all cork bats?
I am a Cub fan who has a strong dislike for Sosa more than anything now.
Funny, Sammy Sosa hasn't been named for doing steroids.

Funny, as a Cubs fan, I never liked Sammy's attitude, but I thought people went way overboard on the corked bat. I mean yes, it's a complete disgrace to have one of your players cheating, but every scientific study I've read seems to show that the effect of corked bats is more superstition than science.
http://www.kettering.edu/~drussell/bats-new/corkedbat.html
I mean really, if MLB were to do a study, they'd probably agree the rule against corked bats is stupid.

Milwaukee fans are angry, I started this thread to allow all cubs fans to read that tickets were going on sale soon. I see brewers fans don't care about their fellow comrades!
Pretty much he was smart enough not to write out a personal check for the stuff, unlike some Brewers. . .
Sorry, I don't go out naming people for doing steroids when they haven't been named in a report, affidavit, or testimony. Sosa used Andro, which was very legal for a very legal time.
this thread is so stupid, just like the cubs and brewers fans who won't let it go. This is a futile argument, they both suck

LOL! Yeah, so did Mark McGuire.
Who are you trying to convince, us or yourself? I assure you I am not that naive...are you?
I'm not convincing anyone. I don't need to be convinced. I'm not the one accusing someone of something that hasn't been proven.
McGwire did it. Good. Sosa did it. Cool. Turnbow did it. Great. Andro was highly effective, and baseball didn't ban it. If baseball wanted to control it, they should have followed suit with the Olympic Committees.
The ridiculousness of Milwaukee sports fans is laughable. I understand though, at least with Chicago we have had success in other sports. So why not take shots at us, and hijack our thread. We all know where Milwaukee's place is.

Has nothing to do with Milwaukee fans, Chicago fans, or __________ fans. I am more interested in why people choose to bury their heads in the sand and claim that something has not been
proven, therefore it didn't happen, and we can't suggest that it happened. I guess it depends on your standards of proof. I am not talking about andro either. That has to be one of the dumbest things I have ever heard. You aren't capable of drawing your own conclusions? Funny though since earlier in this thread you indicated that Bonds and Clemens are somehow different than Sosa because they were

there is a source, but steroids, HGH, etc. are illegal, yet they haven't been convicted by the legal system, so they must not have done it. Same with Gagne, Pettit, Roberst, etc.

Somewhat off topic (but this topic is all off to begin with), but a rumor going around (don't think there's much behind it...yet) is that the Brewers and Royals are thinking of swapping leagues.
Back when the Brewers did it, the Royals were actually given first dibs and passed.
Word is the Royals would like the Cards and Cubs to come to town 20 nights a year annually, and the Brewers want to go back to their AL roots.
Doubt it'll happen any time soon, but the rumor is out there.

Thank you Naivin, thank you. I realized my 20+ years of loving the Cubs was all a waste. I'm so glad you opened my eyes. I will now join you and other Brewer fans in continually hijacking Cubs threads on here because I guess that's what Brewer fans do.

I also read about that. I believe within 7-10 years there will be another expansion within the MLB and some adjustments will be made within the NL Central to level out the divisions. I say just address it then.

Winona, the Brewers sell out opening day. They just have to give away the tickets with the purchase of a ticket package. Pathetic.
Why is it Cubs' fans are so obsessed with how many tickets their club's ownership can sell?
Is it because it's all they're good at?

hard times? wow, you think 100 years without a series win isnt hard times? yet, we sell out every home game at wrigley...we dont need your crappy giveaways to attract true fans.
Ummm..you aren't that old are you. You weren't around before the Tribune made the Cubs about it about Wrigley Field and not baseball. You weren't around in the 70's and 80's when the Cubs couldn't draw flies. Fact is the Cubs have been decent in the recent past - at least they have had some good years. If you are 20 or whatever, you don't know hard times.
Well I guess it's time for me to get in this pissing match before the thread gets locked.
The whole Wrigley Field argument is ridiculous. Why do Cubs fans show up in every city they play in especially Miller Park?
You can't make fun of the Cubs for having 1 World Series Win in the last 100 year then say Cubs fans only come out now because they are good. What? We haven't been good since 1945.
Last year we were better than the Brewers.
Two years ago the Brewers were better than the Cubs.
It's that simple.
Just some stats:
Cubs are averaging a World Series Winner every 65.5 years.
Cubs are averaging reaching a World Series every 13.1 years.
Brewers are averaging zero World Series every 37 years.
Brewers are averaging reaching a World Series every 37 years.
I also support MarqPTM who is far from being a Cub ass clown. He reads up on the Cubs every day even in the dead of winter during trade talks. He supports the Cubs every game even when he can't go to Wrigley which is the only reason to support the Cubs I understand.
Also I understand that the players in 1945 were all off at WWII so before a Brewer fan brings it up lets make it 1938.

McGwire did it. Good. Sosa did it. Cool. Turnbow did it. Great. Andro was highly effective, and baseball didn't ban it.
I am more interested in why people choose to bury their heads in the sand and claim that something has not been proven, therefore it didn't happen, and we can't suggest that it happened. I guess it depends on your standards of proof. I am not talking about andro either. Barry Bonds never failed a drug test, yet I am 100% certain he took Steroids/HGH/whatever. Same goes for McGuire, Sosa, Clemens. Heck, the same goes for Lance Armstrong. It may not be in the form of a positive drug test, but the evidence is there. I just don't understand why people like you choose to ignore it.
You do realize OJ killed his wife, right?
You site Bonds and Clemens who have been directly named or linked to steroids through a source. What about Sosa?

You can't make fun of the Cubs for having 1 World Series Win in the last 100 year then say Cubs fans only come out now because they are good. What? We haven't been good since 1945.
So what happened then? Prior to '84, the Cubs drew nobody. You ever heard of Lee Elia? I didn't say it was all because of Wrigley. I said the Tribune made it more about Wrigley than about baseball. They successfully attempted to change the culture of Cubs baseball. Instead of trying to get people to come out and watch a bad baseball team, they tried to get them to come out for the experience. Now, having a very good team in '84 certainly helped, but the marketing of the team - and encouraging ass clowns, has allowed them to remain remarkably consistent attendance-wise even in bad years, and they have sprinkled in a few playoff appearances. That
culture which is a major reason why tickets are both expensive and hard to come by at Wrigley, is the major reason why they draw on the road. That and the fact that tickets are expensive and hard to come by at Wrigley Field. Throw in the WGN broadcasts over the years, and there you have it.
The Cubs have been better in recent years to be sure, but to suggest that the increase in attendance they achieved back in the mid-80's that they have been able to maintain was not because of Wrigley Field, is just foolish. It has been and is even now the biggest draw the Cubs have. If that's not it, then what is it? Where the Cubs drawing fans everywhere back in 1975, 1980, 1982?

Is the discussion of purchasing Cub tickets really that hot a topic that people are getting frustrated at the difficulty in discussing it? If you want to talk about buying Cub tickets, talk about it, instead of complaining about someone
hijacking the thread.
There I guess I've "Hijacked" it again....
Ladies and gentleman this is your captain speaking. Our Hijackers have just informed us that we will not be landing Libya, we are actually being rerouted to Iran.
The Cubs really are a brand more than anything.
A combo of WGN and Harry Carry made them the brand they are today. There's a reason during Cubs broadcasts on 'GN that they show as many crowd/neighborhood shots as they do.
The brand excelled with their success in '84, and then in '89. As they moved forward, the Trib was intelligent enough to move on this and market the hell out of the Wrigley experience. Throw in success every now and then ('98, '03, last season) and one of the more intelligent marketing departments in sports, and the Cubs are very much more about baseball. If anything, the baseball was/is (to a degree) secondary to the Cubs experience and success.
The Cubs aren't dumb though, and know that to keep the product going, it is still important to field competitive teams. Their success on the field makes it somewhat easier to continue the rise in their ticket prices. Obviously their ticket prices are fueled by supply/demand, but in the sports world (as everyone knows), it's always easier to justify a price increase following a winning season.
As a Sox fan, I have no bitterness towards the Cubs. I do believe that too many Cub fans get thrown under the "Wrigley Field fan" category. Having Wrigley be a part of their Cubdom is just a coincidence, and they'd follow the team no matter where they played. I feel bad for these people, as it's hard to fight the stigma that they just go because of Wrigley. There is clearly a Wrigley Field fan contingent that exists. The buses from Iowa sitting on Waveland on game days attest to this. Until they move out of the ballpark, it won't ever change.

is this so much the Brewers fault, or the Brewer fans fault? I love how other teams fans, especially the Cub fans rip on Brewer fans by saying things liek these. Is it really our fault that we are a small market team, does that mean I shouldn't root for the Brewers, or they shouldn't exist. In fact, I think the real problem with baseball is the fact that they make it so small market teams can't compete. The game of baseball would be so much better without teams like Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, Angels, Cubs, Tigers... did I forget any? Honestly, how great would baseball be with a salary cap. Players wouldn't make ridiculous wages and each team would be a contender, much like NFL to an extent. However since we don't have a salary cap, teams like the Twins, A's, Brewers, etc. will have to struggle to bring up some of the best talent from the farm leagues (an attest to our coaches?) to only ship them to New York, Chicago, Boston... what a tragedy, one of the worst things about sports in general.
However, I am maybe a naive Brewer fan when I think players like Prince, and Braun won't leave due to their ties to the Milwaukee franchise, and their ties to the fans/city.
Was it not previously mentioned earlier that the Cubs couldn't draw flies? The Brewers can breech small-market, easily. They need to get the rabid fan base that is Wisconsin with the team to start. That shouldn't be too hard, except for maybe the Upper Regions of the state.
Next step, national television.

You do realize it is March 31st don't you? I had an offer from a seldom scooper, Cub season ticket holder, but decided it was best to take a pass. Something not right about baseball being played in snow.
thats ok, at least cubs fans are true fans and we can actually sell out our home opener.
Winona, the Brewers sell out opening day. They just have to give away the tickets with the purchase of a ticket package. Pathetic.
opening day is sold out every year... the fact that they gave it away with the purchase of more tickets is actually a very smart business move, give away a ticket that everyone will buy to people who are more dedicated fans and will purchase a group of tickets... I don't see why you have such a problem with giveaways at games... fan appreciation days, Marquette does it all the time, in fact this year people were complaining about the things Marquette was giving away, (in fact, people were upset about there being NO bobble heads this year, these same bobble heads that apparently the Brewers shouldn't give away)... so is Marquette actually a lesser program for giving away things to their fans? In your eyes yes they are, since the Brewers are pathetic for doing this.
I didn't know teams were based on how much they could make their fans pay for a ticket just to watch a team lose for 100 years. Its okay though, it is tradition, and the Cubs are better for that.

Much has been made about the lack of salary cap, but one thing I like with baseball is that players can't hold out for more money. If a player doesn't have enough service time to get arbitration, they can't refuse to show up for spring training until they get a better contract. If they want to sit out, they just lose the service time necessary to be eligible for free agency, thus delaying their payday even further. If they have the service time for arbitration, the best they can do is let the arbitration case be heard. After a player is eligible for free agency their services are finally subject to a bidding war. But if NFL rules applied, Fielder and Braun would be holding out right now asking for more money or a trade ala Javon Walker, Deion Branch and numerous others who are still on their rookie contracts. Then between February and June half of those players that held out get cut to give their teams some cap relief.

but this is where the cubs management of old showed genius.. I was somewhat of a cubs fan before I ever lived in chicago or went to marquette.. I spent a lot of years during my childhood in omaha, nebraska.. no major league team there.. closest you get is the kansas city royals.. no thanks.. but I saw MANY cubs games on WGN... genius.. nationwide cable channel that carries most or all of the games. bring in all those small market places and you get yourself a pretty good following.
while you bring up the brewers having most of the state of wisconsin, I don't think this is completely accurate. my dad grew up in madison and spent his childhood following the milwaukee braves.. when they picked up and moved, people were pissed off in general and at mlb in particular.. my dad used to tell me stories about how they'd have lawn parties around a radio every game.. as soon as the braves left that all stopped and with a scowl. when the brewers came in it wasn't well received as a result.. many people from his neighborhood still want nothing to do with the brewers.. quite a few of the ones who stayed fans of mlb switched to the cubs and white sox during the period between the braves and brewers.. uphill climb for the brewers with much of the state even now.

You act like the Brewers don't deal with the same problems. In fact, you have Cub fans everywhere in the city of Milwaukee, which comes from pre-1970 not having a team so people were forced to watch the Cubs on WGN, and now passed on the Cub fan to their children, and so on down the line.
