Title: Southern hospitality
Post by: tower912 on November 28, 2023, 09:54:43 PM
1.  Work off the rust.  Check
      Don't get hurt.    Close enough
2.   It was a guards game tonight.
3.  Forced a lot of turnovers.   That is the only good thing to say about the first half defense.
4.  What must have been a pretty good halftime butt chewing about lapses of concentration on defense appeared to work.
5.  Nice to see some 3's drop.
6. Better in full court pressure than in half court defense for the first 25 minutes.
7.  Frosh got run, showed ability.   As it should be in cupcake games.
8.  Never a doubt.
9.  Let the Badger hate fill you and consume you.

Tune up for Saturday.

So much rest that most of our guys are gonna have 1/2 a game in 10 days.

Health is most important

This is an Al Amadou fan account now.

Shades of OMax.

My takeaway, Shaka continues to recruit better players every year. This group is taller and stronger, next years group taller and stronger than this group. The future is bright.

5 dollar

Agreed on shades of Omax. We are going to see to a lot of that style player down the road.

Al will be needed defensively in short spurts when we need some more length on the floor.    He may only play in a handful of games but has the athleticism on defense to make those minutes count.

Al might end up getting more time than what was expected going into the season.

Al brings a ton of energy off the bench.  Can't wait to see his game develop.  Our team is just so athletic and it's only getting better.

I like what I see Goose.  Not enough playing time is a good problem to have.  He will be a productive player down the road.

The athleticism of the second line makes the starters look like they are playing in weight belts. The more I see this team, the more I love the upside for a very deep run this year and beyond.

Exactly what I thought after seeing him play tonight. Wow!

I enjoyed watching Amadou.  Cupcakes are opportunities for young guys to get run and he took advantage.   I suggested AA should have gotten the last 90 seconds of the first half against Purdue and Edey.  My thinking was that if he picked up 3 fouls in 3 possessions against the NPOY, it wouldn't actually hurt much, would be a great learning experience, and better him than Oso picking up his third.
After watching him last night, I am sticking with my Purdue opinion.

Get Al ready for round two with Purdue.
Keep two big guys on the floor at all times with Edey on the floor.  Takes pressure off them guarding Edey.  Avoid the foul problem with two bigs on the floor at all times Edey is on the floor.  Instead, have Edey be the one getting into foul trouble.

Much of their first half production was Johnson shooting out of his mind. After his 5/5 from three start and 20 points in the first half, I said in my group chat "I'm setting the over/under on Johnson points in the second at 4.5, what do you have?" Pretty much everyone said over, I was the only one on the under. He tallied 1 point because those things tend to normalize for anyone not named Markus Howard (see also: Darius Johnson-Odom).

All in all, a good performance. Hot shooting kept them in it in the first half, then we put our foot down late and coasted mostly on the efforts of the bench in the second half. Bring on Bucky.

It was great seeing extended periods with only sophomores and freshmen on the floor. Those minutes are an investment that will pay dividends later in the season.

They also allowed our starters to get some rest to prepare for the avalanche of pain they are going to inflict on Saturday. F the Badgers.

Watching the Arkansas Duke game.  They said Lawson helped contain Edey in a scrimmage before the season.  A player like Amadou is like a Lawson.  Long and bouncy. Whether he contributes this year meaningfully more than a few good minutes does not matter but he will  contribute in the near future.  We aren't going to have to wait till the end of his junior year.

Also after rewatching the second half of last nights game, Amadou got driven by a couple times by a smaller guard because of a poor stance and angle but never looked lost on D.
