Love the hate! 🕺
This is going to be such a good game.
OMax had 14 in this game but was very inefficient. Kam was 9-12 from the field with 26 points in 40 minutes.
Kolek had just 6 points, Oso with just 9. Need our 2 Seniors to shine and the defense to actually show up in the game this year. Should be a blast!
Marquette Worrier checking in here. Bad feeling about this one. I know we're the better team, but it seems like UW is starting to figure it out. And if they shoot it well from three it's gonna be very difficult to win there. MU has tended to concede a good amount of open threes after trapping. Bucky killed that double in the post last year... Crowl had something like 7 assists.
Hopefully the boys come out firing and make them play catch up from the start.
It's my son's 2nd birthday on Saturday. Last year we celebrated his first at Fiserv. This year we are hosting a party for family but made it clear that it starts after the game ends and anyone wearing red cannot attend.
Kolek and Oso are SIGNIFICANTLY better now than they were a year ago. That difference alone will be enough to beat Madison ... but they won't be alone.
Double-digit victory for Marquette.
#2 vs #10
Minutes Continuity
Hopefully we fall down from #2 as we let our frosh & Sophs get plenty of run with the game in hand early

Every returning Marquette player is not just better but MUCH better than a year ago.
Last Nov. 27, nobody here - even Kolek's biggest fans on Scoop - was predicting that TK would be the 2023 Big East POY and a 2023-24 preseason All-American. And for good reason - he wasn't a scoring threat at all, and it would have been a ridiculous prediction! Oso was still adjusting to his role and was nowhere near what he is now. Right on down the roster.
Marquette has won plenty of games in Madison, with much worse teams than this. Hell, Wojo won twice there with teams that weren't good enough to make the NCAAT.
Looking forward to watching our guys do to Madison what we did to Kansas.
Big Ten team, so I've set my expectations low
I honestly think Wisky has a pretty good team and can hurt us on the glass. I expect a close game on Saturday. Clearly last year Hepburn played out of his ass. They've added a couple of pieces on the perimeter, that true Frosh looks pretty good. I know we're the better team but we will have to play a solid game to get the victory imo.

I agree Muggsy. I think the Badgers are a decent team. But I also think Shaka will have MU ready to play well. And I also think Oso, Kam and Tyler are not going to want to lose three times in a row. There will be a great deal of motivation to get this W. They will win by 10 on the road.
I think tomorrow is an important game. It's an excellent opportunity to get out guys in rhythm from downtown before Saturday. This MU team will be extraordinarly difficult to beat if we can get the 3-Ball rolling. UCONN with Castle may be better? I dunno. But when I look at all of our intangibles let me just say this: We're not losing to ANYONE if we start finding our range. We're much, much, better than we have shown to this point draining tbe triple. It's time to go to work, mince the mesh from distance, add that to our already potent arsenal, and take zero prisoners moving forward. THIS IS OUR TIME!! LFG!!!

Not if our secondary shooters are 1-12 or so last game, the bench was 0-7 and Mitchell and Jop were not much better,
but at least Stevie hit one, a start. Hard to believe he has not improved yet, hope his confidence is not shot. We were
told he put up a ton of shots this summer, Needs a confidence building game. Had a high school teammate that could
not miss in high school practice, lights turned on and he could not make a shot either, happens.
I am not worried about our 3 point shooting. The combined 3 point percentage for all teams during the tournament was under 30%. Apparently the humidity along with the unfriendly rims make a huge difference.

That was quite the anomaly since through the first 10 games of the tournament, the field was about 25% from 3. I am sure Shaka is preaching 3 point defense this week as Bucky can get hot from 3.

True, but take away Purdue's ridiculous first half, which included a 75-footer that rattled in, and our opponents shot 33.3% (14-42) in 2 1/2 games.

I don't think these guys care about this game like we do.
They are wired by Shaka to treat every game the same. They'll go in like they are the hunted and give their best effort without anything but winning THIS game on their mind.
That being said, I think UW-Madison is plenty capable of getting the win. Have to find a way to put our fingerprints on the game right out off the jump, or they will.
Saw Wisconsin last week against West Virginia. Wisconsin showed their typically solid defense with their typically slow/low scoring offense and their very loud fan base.
MU keeps their composure and we win this one going away.

Of course Madison is capable of beating us. So were Illinois, UCLA, Kansas and Purdue (though Madison isn't as good as any of them).
I agree that Shaka and the players don't think of this the same way fans do. They want to win EVERY game. Kolek and Kam aren't gonna try extra hard because they lost the last 2 to Madison; that implies they didn't try extra hard the last two times. They're gonna try hard, as they always do, because if you do that and you have more talent you'll win most times.
When Kolek went up for that 3 vs. Purdue, he wasn't thinking, "You know, I really want to beat Madison after losing to them the last two years; I don't have quite that feeling in this game." Clang!

MU by 1......so a toss up.
I don't really know what to expect in this game to be honest. These games are usually just coin flips with the home team winning more often than not. I feel less confident against Wisconsin than I did against Purdue. Maybe this is there super bowl of the season but having #3 come into your house you know its going to be one of the harder venues to play over the last two years. If Marquette pulls it out it will probably be in the last minute however I could see Badgers getting hot from 3. Key this year is to stop Chucky Hepburn from going nuclear in the 1st half like last season. Wisconsin won't have an answer for Oso as Tyler Wahl has been terrible to start the year. On paper Marquette is night and day better than the Badgers however, I could see this game going either way.
I am looking forward to grinding them into badger pulp because Shaka hasn't done that yet.
Over the past few weeks I have mentioned that I think the strength of this team is experience, depth and poise, after Maui I will add a business like way of taking care of things. For UW to win I think it would take a monumental effort by Bucky and a meltdown my MU. I think the odds of that happening are near zero.
Last year I thought chemistry was 95% the reason for their success and that has matured into an experienced team taking care of business. I fully expect an outstanding performance by the team on Saturday.
Badgers blow MU out of the Fiserv is Hepburn plays the whole game last year.
And Gard completely outcoached Shaka.
Losing 3 in a row to UW would be humiliating for MU

Goose, I wholeheartedly agree with your first sentence, but i have disagree with the rest. I wish I were wagering this year bc I have successfully predicted every MU game this season versus the spread. I'm no savant (maybe an idiot though 😂), but you just know something is different about this game. Many years the better team doesn't win. I will be so happy if everyone here piles on me after we whip Red by twenty! Whisky is just so good at taking people out of what they do best. And that slow down swing just makes it harder for an explosive team like MU to make up deficits, should our shots not fall early. All this being said, we have a TON of weapons, and can play our B game and still prevail against UW's best. Just not a game I would bet. Make some noise in Madtown, Goose and help get us the W!!
If you are attending the game, please consider bringing a "Welcome Home, Bagders" sign.

Well done on being 6-0 against the spread this season. I definitely get your points and do not fully disagree. That said, as a rule I do not think many of the games have been close ones over the past 10-15 years. The last two at the FF have been close, but it seems like many of the games have been double digit games. Again, going from memory, aside from the two close games, I do not remember a real good game of late.
All that said, I think the trend of bigger margin win/loss will likely be the case this year. There is a major difference in talent level and experience this year and think it will be difficult for UW to have a chance. IMO, the gap in talent is bigger than I can remember in recent memory.

Seems like an Illinois game with a little extra juice. But we've been told ad nauseum that rivalries don't matter to players only the fan bases. So no extra motivation or nerves. Just robots playing a game. We should win in that scenario handily.

February, 1974. Milwaukee Arena. Marquette coach Al McGuire leaps on top of the scorer's table and celebrates after Maurice Lucas hit a ridiculous last second jump shot to give the Warriors a one point victory over Wisconsin. In the stands almost directly opposite McGuire is Glenn Hughes, father of Kim and Kerry Hughes, Wisconsin's "Twin Towers of Power". Walking in the foreground is dejected Badger Coach, John Powless. Marquette went on to the NCAA tournament and finished second overall.
Notice Mr. Hughes "salute" to Mr. McGuire. Hank's reaction is priceless too.

Ok - this is getting to be a rabbit hole
Shaka should play loud chants of "Overrated" on loud speakers in every practice this week. Hopefully this will get the team super motivated to not hear those same chants in Madison on Saturday.
Those "Overrated" chants came out after we were ranked fairly high after winning the Great Alaskan Shootout during Wade's sophomore year. Wade got in early foul trouble, Ryan outclassed Crean, and they cruised to an easy victory.
Time to learn from history, so we're not condemned to repeat it!

A few years ago, Wisconsin beat Marquette in Milwaukee. About two months after that, I went to a Marquette game, and as Marquette was destroying a conference rival at home, a fan behind me said, "man, I wish we could have played this well against Wisconsin". It just brought me so much joy that the loss to the Badgers was still on this fan's mind months later.
He musta been sitting right in front of Viper.
Thanks as always, Eeyore.
haha. I avoid this one. Keeps me out of jail.

What is it about MU dentists that annoy people so much?
High crime rates
We need to speed them up. Teams that play at their pace haven't fared well. It doesn't need to be a track meet, but get it into the high-60s in possessions and I think we win. That's what both Tennessee and Providence did in their double-digit wins over Bucky. We can do the same.
Over the last 25 years or so, UW and MU have been generally at a similar level of success. UW likely has the edge with some nice runs in the NCAA. This year, MU is the better team and Saturday's game, win or lose, will not change that at all. MU will be competing for a top seed in the NCAA and UW will be scrambling to get in. For that reason, this isn't a must win in any sense. It would be a nice win, or it would be an inconsequential December non-conference road loss.
This one I question:
Story: My nephew, who played hockey at UW and coached at Mequon Homestead, has a daughter who was friends with Buzz's daughter. This was a number of years ago. The daughter, maybe 8 at the time, was invited to Buzz's daughter's birthday party. Staring at all the Marquette stuff at Buzz's house, he asked my grandniece, if she was going to go to college at Marquette when she was older, her answer "My dad told me to tell you that Marquette is my safety school"
Not sure I believe this, but if true, what sort of douchebag uses his 8 year old daughter like this? Especially, when she was invited to a birthday party.
LOL, Buzz always recruiting...

I wonder how much Bo would charge to come to your parking lot.
Or on
Are any of the players past or present on cameo? We could do a scoop fundraiser to get one to say "go Marquette!"

I read that to mean those are the two possible scenarios from Marquette's perspective: a nice win, or an inconsequential December non-con road loss.
Nice story about Karley Marotta and her family that Ben Steele had reposted on X:

As one would expect.
Looking forward to MU asserting itself as the dominant school in this rivalry again.

By "similar level of success" you mean Final Four? Marquette 1 UW 3
Elite 8s? Marquette 2 UW 4
Sweet 16s? Marquette 4 UW 10
NCAA appearances? Marquette 14 UW 21
Sure, got it...

"We do not care about this game"
"It is not a rivalry"
