Interesting nugget:
Marquette will play No. 2 Purdue tomorrow, becoming the first team to play AP No. 1 and 2 on back-to-back days since Loyola Chicago lost to Bill Walton-led (1) UCLA and (2) Marquette on January 28th and 29th, 1972.
That is a fun fact.
Awesome nugget
Edey is a load and gets away with a lot of fouls. I would like to run them to death.
Keep in mind that Tennessee is doing the same thing. Today they played AP 2 and tomorrow they play AP 1.

Technically, Tennessee will be the first team to ever do that as they play at 1:30.
Oso beating Edey down the floor would certainly help.
I thought Purdue looked a little tired in their game today. Not every team is up to playing three games back-to-back. MU's three game run in Big East tournament last year gives me great confidence for tomorrow's game.
Opening line is Purdue -3.5

Loyola lost both those games.
Tennessee will play 1+2 before us, but they've already lost once.
Has any one ever BEATEN 1 and 2 on back to back nights?

That we have 5 guards who are proving to be essentially interchageable ( talented, tough and relentless) gives me great confidence, also.

Great point
We played Purdue last November in West Lafayette. The boys led by 2 at the half but lost 75-70. Purdue shot 18 free throws to our 3 in the second half. We had a miserable night shooting and were killed by a long second half cold spell.

MU looked gassed also. Kolek especially did in 2nd half

Speaking of gas
Purdue -3.5
O/U 147
Predicted Score
Purdue 75
Marquette 72
If Oso can hang with Edey today, there isn't a team in the country that Marquette should fear. We have the best guard in the country and if Oso can hang with the top 2 big men in Dick Hunter and Zach Edey look out.

What the odds makers don't know is I'm wearing the same MU tshirt, MU socks and underwear (the underwear is not MU branded) that I have worn the last three days. This tactic is the reason they won the big east tournament last year and I am sure it is going to work today as well.
If they use the blueprint from last year in West Lafayette, I like our chances. A year older, more battle tested. That game plan had them on the verge until the offense went cold.
Either way, highly successful week in Hawaii.

From ESPN: The Golden Eagles will be the first team since Loyola Chicago in 1972 to play the Nos. 1 and 2 teams in the AP Top 25 on consecutive days and 10th overall. The Ramblers are the only team to win both games, doing so in the 1963 NCAA tournament by beating No. 2 Duke on March 22 and No. 1 Cincinnati on March 23.
Purdue brings back a lot, too. They are playing with a lot of their version of connectedness. I just hope Ben doesn't call Edey slow again.
I just hope it isn't a foul-filled slog like the Purdue game yesterday.
Marquette wore Kansas down last nite - if they can play at the same pace today and pressure their guards, like their chances.

Umm, no. In the game I watched, we ran Kansas out of the gym, throwing fresh body after fresh body at them. Sean Jones' ⭐️ is exploding before our eyes.
That's the thing, if the BEPOY has needs a breather or Kam gets in foul trouble, we bring in Sean and Chase and lose absolutely nothing!!! Let's go!

You got to give Loyola credit....they have their stamp on college basketball in permanent ink. Of course Kansas, Dule, UCLA, others and I would say Marquette has also.
Why is this game so early today?
Agree, we have to use our depth to create a frenetic game that is too fast for Edey. Have to imagine dragging a large 7'3" body around for 3 games in 3 days is a chore. It was interesting to hear Kolek talk about the UCLA game being sort of a revenge game given the loss two years ago. I think it really bothered these guys that they let it slip away at Purdue last year. These guys are feeling it right now. I think we will need to shoot better from 3 than we did last night, but I like our chances. MU didn't head to Hawaii for vacation. That much is clear.

I'd like to think that the tournament organizers drove those three referees straight to the airport after the game -- not even stopping to let them change clothes.
The energy and intensity the guys brought to the Kansas game was unbelievable. As Jay Bilas pointed out, MU controlled the game on both ends of the court and Had Kansas reacting to them throughout the game. That kind of effort takes a lot out of you - physically and emotionally. Will be a challenge to do it two games in a row, but hopefully they find a way to do it.
Just wish Shaka could beat Big Ten teams

It's all for television. They are putting the 3rd and championship games on ESPN which then has an NBA double header following. The 5th and 7th games are on ESPN 2 I think.
I'll be watching with my daughter who graduated from Purdue in May. I'll leave the shades open so she can see what's going on. If things are going well, I may even crack the window so she can hear the play-by-play.

Have to agree with this. With five minutes left in the game it looked like the 13th round of a heavyweight fight. I would love to see the defensive intensity tonight, but that is a tall order in less than 24 hours.

This whole pre conference season is the Shaka/MU revenge tour. UCLA, Kansas in many respects, Purdue, Texas, Wisconsin, etc. Shaka is steely eyed and so is the team about their mission. That will include the NCAA tournament as well me thinks.

I was honestly shocked how early Self pulled his guys, especially with how tired we looked.
Third game in a row with physical match-ups for both teams. MU still hasn't found its shooting here and the legs have to be tired. Purdue loves to slog and Edey will get the calls. MU's bench is an advantage as our intensity actually picks up. Need a hot Kam but I suspect this will be a grinder.
Solid points, Dr. B.. I do not think they will be denied today. Enjoy the game!
Edey will certainly get his share of put-backs and inside buckets. Eager to see MU push it up the other way and score in transition off of their made baskets though. MU has been great at that and it seems to really demoralize opponents when we score within 6 seconds of them scoring. I believe MU's speed will overwhelm them eventually. If Purdue can make it a half court game we will have issues, particularly given their rim protection and the fact no one has been able to shoot well in that gym.
Depth and speed will carry the day. MU wins.

It's been that way for a couple of years now. ESPN pays tons for the NBA rights, so they are not giving up their doubleheader. They don't want the Maui Championship in primetime on ESPN2.
