Title: 80s Pizza Place
Post by: BLWarrior91 on November 13, 2023, 06:10:02 PM
Help me out fellow Scoopers.  What was the name of the pizza place in the late 80s-early 90s next to Hegarty's...Wells and 12th St.  they had Al McGuire quotes in the wall.

80's os before my time. But it would have to be Rocky's I would think. Giuliano's was the opposite direction on Wells, just West of 16th and Wells, on the North side of the street. There was an additional place. Angelo's was on the SW corner of that block. Pizza Joe's (?) but that was well after the other two. Papa John's is the there now similar to many other college campuses that have them. Were there any other pizza places? The rest I remember are in other parts if the city and burbs.

Yes!  It was Rocky Rococo!  We would go there when I lived at Tower.

Thanks for the help...I couldn't come up with that name.

Back in the late 70's there was a place on Wells just west of Real Chili where you could get pizza by the slice. Damn if I remember the name.

Late 70's west of Real Chili I believe was Ski's Pizza. But also directly across the street from Chili from roughly 1978 to 1980 was a slice joint called Famous Joe's ( pizza by the slice run by a guy from Brooklyn).

In the late 80's early 90's it was named Guiliano's, next to Amigo's.

I loved Guiliano's. You could get a large (greasy) pepperoni and a quart of pop in a styrofoam cup for $3.50 or something like that in the late 80s.

The 2:00am spot was either Giuliano's or Chilli.

Loved Gugglianos (as one housemate constantly and unintentionally mispronounced it). Our go-to place for a quick slice.

Once, Freeway cornered us and repeatedly and rhetorically(?) asked "who is going to guard Michael Jordan in Chicago Bulls Stadium?"

Another time, while waiting for our slices, the owner grabbed a small axe, jumped out from behind the counter and chased a kid out the front door.
