If anyone is interested in joining Bluesky, I have a few invite codes. I miss Twitter’s #mubb community. Trying to see if we can rebuild it on Bluesky.

Uncle Rico beat me to a bunch of these and I didn’t read very closely. If you ended up getting two (one from Rico and one from me) spread the MU love.

I’ll be the joke if needed, but I was never on Twitter, X, or Threads. Is this actually a thing?

Yes, basically Jack Dorsey's reboot of Twitter.

Can’t recommend Bluesky enough. It lacks the anti-semitism that’s sponsored by Elon Musk and is rampant on X.
If you take a look at X this morning in the wake of the mass gun casualty event, you can see why it’s a dying platform.

I'll try it

During META's earnings call last night, the company said Threads now has 100 million users.

...then folks on Bluesky would be pretty ignorant of all the antisemites out there. People can say/print a lot of disgusting things but we should be able to hear and see them and draw our own conclusions, not some Billionaire's filtered view of the world of what we can and cannot say or print.
Even here on Scoop we're permitted to mock thoughts and prayers. I suppose even Jewish thoughts and prayers.

Sure, filtering out anti-semitism and racism versus actively engaging and promoting them are two different things. I guess that makes X unique and a benefit to society in that regard

You can see and hear them on Xitter, Rumble, Gettr, Truth Social, Telegram, Gab, Parler, etc., etc. Plenty of places to get your fill of odious hate speech.
But maybe private platforms should be allowed to decide their own content rules, huh? Capitalism and all that.

Forgive me for my naivety, but you’re kind of telling on yourself if you see too much of one thing on an algorithm driven platform no?

Not really. If you click on a trending topic like “Lewiston”, the top posts come up and usually, it’s not good.
You can choose who you follow and don’t follow and that eliminates the cesspool stuff until you try and look at trending topics.
-
Haven't followed along with who still needs invite codes, but I have them to spare.
Hit me w/ a message and I'll hook you up.

I clicked on "Maine" and it's all fairly innocuous black and white reporting with some videos. Maybe it's just me.

The first thing I get is a Dan Bongino clip telling me to arm myself. Second is a video of a river they’re searching for the suspect and the third is a bot saying it’s harder to get Sudafed in Maine than a gun. But each person probably gets different things.
Mark Baden tweeted this after Giannis signed his deal a few days ago. Mostly positive responses but there are always the ugly responses to a positive story

These are my top two. Who knows. Not clicking on or staying far away from the deep replies may be a good start to avoid the scum as well.

Oh, it is. Won’t disagree with that and I’ve pruned out and muted a lot of the mess anyway. It’s just a shame what was once a fun place has become such a mess. The most bizarre part is tweets being liked or reposted from months or even years ago from all kinds of random bots. I’ll close my account as soon as all the sports/news stuff moves over to Bluesky

Unless you tell me that Bluesky is paying big content producers, these content producers are not moving over for nothing.

Mr. Beast beats Mark Zuckerberg, becomes first person to hit 1 million followers on Threads
https://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/news/2023/07/07/mr-beast-threads-followers/70390935007/
Mr. Beast has beaten Mark Zuckerberg − and everyone else − to become the first person to hit 1 million followers on Instagram Threads, according to Guinness World Records.
Zuckerberg was the second person to hit 1 million followers on the app launched this week by his company, Meta.
According to Guinness, Mr. Beast, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, hit the milestone at 9:42 a.m. EST on July 6, just a few hours after he joined the app. As of Friday, Mr. Beast had 38.4 million followers on Instagram.
----
Then what?
They stopped posting on threads after a few weeks?
Why .. maybe because they are not getting paid on threads, and X pays them every two weeks.

Twitter’s Rival Threads Is Already Unraveling
https://time.com/6305383/meta-threads-failing/
Celebrities quickly lost interest in Threads after the initial hype. Youtuber Mr. Beast, who almost immediately surpassed Zuckerberg as the most followed person on the platform, stopped posting three weeks ago. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (1.2 million followers) hasn’t threaded in three weeks; the popular gamer Pokimane (531,000 followers) hasn’t threaded in a fortnight.

X is thriving partly because it allows rampant racism, anti-semitism and the such and that’s just Elon’s account

Mr. Beast does not make millions of dollars on X, his first revenue check this summer (which most content people have admitted have only gone down since the start) was given away for about $25K.
-
There’s also that thing where the revenue checks were exposed as being arbitrary promotion buts from the company not pegged to reality in any way…

Sorry if our platform was a bit slower than it should be – we have now brought additional resources online.
Last week was an all-time high in usage.
