What is the MU marketing department doing in Milwaukee to pimp the season? Are there billboards all over the place? Are nicknames being bandied about for our badass players? Do we have anyone in charge with a remote understanding how to create some enthusiasm? How about a little Purple Haze every time Kam hits his patented Rainbow J? Maybe Pink Floyd's Money after Tyko drops a dime?
Not only does this group have the potential to inflict serious damage, but this is also the most aesthetically pleasing and coolest basketball team in the country. Can we get it together and maybe create some nicknames, a hoops glossary, get on people's asses in the marketing department or what have you?? I'm just throwing it out there, the season will be here before you know it. Have a good day. Let's put together something nickname wise at least?

Just as long as it's not too loud. I heard the music last year was too loud. Loud music has no place at a sporting event.
Hire Brew.
good lord, can the season start sooner so we can stop these stupid marketing, nickname, ticketing posts....
I'll add some positivity here: Really liked the big soccer-style banner & "We Will Win" chant from the student section for big games. It was fun. Be excited to see something like that come back.

Much like ESPN, Marquette's marketing team hates Marquette.

"I Believe That We Will Win" has the same number of syllables as "Warriors Come Out To Play," I think the students should chant that instead. But alas I graduated 15 years ago, I don't have the juice to get it going.
A decade or more ago, I suggested substituting 'we are' and 'Marquette' for 'Thunder' when they play Thunderstruck before the game.

Students have been doing that for 20+.
As to the game experience, Learfield schools are essentially all the same as they are saving on royalties and ideas. My daughter came up with "Miller Lite Corner" for young alums at Sac State. She texted me that MU was fast adapting the next week. The MU band is the last of the unique to MU things left.

So based on your logic Beethoven's music, because he died close to 200 years ago, serves little purpose and shouldn't be used in a soundtrack? Or in any event or setting? What a bunch of fking nonsense. Maybe if they listen to the freaking song they would immediately connect the dots? Smh. And Purple Haze was released 16 years before I was born btw.

I stated a fact (or an educated guess). I didn't make an argument so I'm not sure what logic youre refrencing. I certainly didn't say anything about Beethoven or Hendrix "serving little purpose" (though they would serve little purpose at a modern college basketball game).
There's also the reality that you can't play music while the ball is in play in college ball. So you'd only be able to do this if there was an immediate timeout after a made Kam 3.

When's the last time you heard Beethoven at a sporting event? And I think his 9th is probably the greatest piece of music ever written. (That and Aerosmith's version of "Train Kept a Rollin'." 😉)

We hear Beethoven 9th all over the place over a variety of artistic platforms and have for years. We hear AC/DC at sporting events, they're not exactly current. I make one little comment about Purple Haze and the common retort is thiis music/lyrics are too old. Gimme a break.

Being too old isn't the problem. Not being popular enough is. The current students have all heard Thunderstruck before. Most of them have never heard Purple Haze.... and again, you can't play music during game action, so playing music after every made three doesn't work anyway

Additional song ideas:
-Fans sing "You Are (O) So Beautiful To Me" any time Oso scores.
-Play Petula Clark's "Downtown" going into timeouts after a made three.
-Use the Cocomelon "Wagon Song" whenever the Jopwagon checks in.
-Go with Neil Young's "Heart of Gold" to amp fans up for big Ben Gold plays.
-Blast Diana Ross' "I'm Coming Out" every time Chase leaves the floor.

Using basketball reference 25/217 makes in the series were midrange. Just 11.5%, and it pretty much decreased as the series went on. By game, 8/7/6/1/3 made midrange shots. I don't know what series Muggs was watching, but it wasn't Denver in the NBA Finals, that's for sure.

Denver scored 38 points from the mid-range in the NBA finals. Total. They scored 523 points in the series. So 7.3% of their points came from the mid-range.
Game 1 they scored 18 points from the mid-range. After that, they never scored more than 6 points from mid-range in a game. In Game 4, they scored a single mid-range jumper.
Denver's performance in the NBA Finals is an excellent example of why the mid-range jumper is no longer emphasized in today's game.

When they dug up his coffin and opened it up, they found him erasing musical compositions. They asked him what he was doing and he answered, "Decomposing."
His 5th Symphony is perfect if you are, umm..."prepping" for a colonoscopy. Helps you get the job done while listening to classical music. Just get into sync with the symphony.

Stop attacking our 19th c diminutive citizens Scoop Snoop. If you don't appreciate Ludwig I don't know what to tell you.
Zero chance Ludwig could dunk.

Unpopular opinion: hendrix was very overrated.

You have no idea if Ludwig had hops or not and whether he could dunk is irrelevant. Stop attacking him. He had more talent in his pinky nail than every person we know has combined. Indisputable genius whose compositions will last forever.

Is the drinking game chugging until they say thunder again and then the next person has to chug, and so on? I recently played that game on the local frisbee golf course for the first time, some youths taught me.
It certainly is. That's been at least played since 2009... *totally not in the dorms*

The song and coordinated arm waving are a total cringefest and I don't think any uniqueness can save that. I'm also convinced that drinking game only exists on and around the MU campus, though that point isn't in my favor ;D
Gonna agree with Vanderbluemangroup on this. I mean most cheers are a "cringe fest" at least it's something. Difference with college vs NBA is college people get into the cringe stuff and have fun while NBA can't be bothered to peep unless they're told to cheer by a loud speaker.
Muggsy would never favor dropping U2 and AC/DC from the playlist
Bono is 5'6"
Malcolm and Angus Young of AC/DC were 5'3' and 5'2" respectively. Plus AC/DC lead singer Brian Johnson is 5'5"
Bon Scott was a relative tower at 5'8"

Okay boomers.
Last time I saw AC/DC at a sold-out Wrigley Field in 2015 there were plenty of people there in their 20s and 30s, myself included.
You don't have to be a boomer to know that Back In Black is one of the best rock records of all time.

Yeah, I think people are really losing track of time here. The parents of current college students listened to stuff like the Smashing Pumpkins and Weezer.
Yeah. And Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etc. Keep in mind that it's been nearly 30 years since Kurt Cobain died.
One fun music tidbit to show how fast time is passing and how old the music some of us grew up with is: today's equivalent of Brian Adams'
Summer of '69 would be
Summer of '08.

The parents of current college students went to high school in the 90s. Purple Haze was the classic rock that their parents (and some of their grandparents) listened to
Yep. I must say though I have been constantly surprised by the play lists of my high school and college aged kids. They have playlists for just about any genre of music including classic rock. Although their favorites are rap and country. Some of the play lists they have are straight out of my college years in the 80s and 90s.
I think video games and movies have had a big influence on people in their age group. You like the game or the movie and you like the music in it too. Introducing old or new music into something they like (Marquette basketball would be another example) will get them to like it too. It will give them a reference point to make it their own.

I'm a fan of the Young bros.
There was another musical Young brother named George.
He was the first in the family to migrate from Scotland to Australia. While in the band The Easybeats, they had a 60's hit "Friday On My Mind"
Later George worked with the younger brothers as they formed AC/DC. Produced many of their albums, and even played bass in the band early on. George's son Stevie took over for Malcolm in the band after Malcolm had passed.

I don't know what to tell you Muggsy. Clueless response from you. My wife and I have been to concerts where Beethoven's symphonies have been performed and thoroughly enjoyed them. Being at a performance of the 9th symphony was an unforgettable experience. It probably offends you that I joked to my wife that I would not want to cross up the very big woman singing "Ode to Joy" as she could have knocked me out cold with one punch. Do you really have such a total inability to see humor in anything? Are you alone the Judge, Jury and Executioner on all matters? Your knee jerk "stop attacking (fill in the blank) is getting really old.

Yeah I don't know about that. Zappa was certainly experimental and pushed the boundaries, but I don't think he had the sheer technical abilities of Hendrix or Clapton.
I can't believe I have to chime in on this from the Artic Circle.

At least he did have the technical ability to survive his 20's and not become an addict and a drunk like Clapton. I do believe Zappa was technically a better player as well but YMMV.
Oh my goodness! Someone in the rock-n-roll industry had a drug and alcohol problem?
BTW, drugs and alcohol were hardly the worse thing about Clapton. He's been a POS most of his life.
