Title: Batten down the hatches, SoCal
Post by: tower912 on August 18, 2023, 08:46:20 AM
All that snow and precipitation last winter and now a category 4?!?!?    Those reservoirs are all going to be full again.      Be safe, good luck.

Thanks for the well wishes.  I was watching the news with my wife last night and we did a double take at each other when the "hurricane" graphic appeared on the screen.

Clear and sunny so far, but we will see what awaits us.

Again, thanks for the well wishes.

That was funny.

As someone who regularly visited Rosarito Beach, Puerto Nuevo, and Ensenada long ago, I feel sad for that area. They will be hit hard on the current forecast path.
Stay safe everyone.

Is Vegas offering odds on the level of flooding?

Definitely not as bright and sunny out today as it was yesterday.  some clouds are moving in, but no rain yet.  The worst of it should hit Los Angeles / Orange County by tomorrow evening.  Both the Dodgers and the Angels scheduled double headers for today so they could clear their schedules for tomorrow.

Be safe. I have a nice amount of family in greater LA and fingers crossed for everyone.

Best to you, SoCal, and any others who live there.

With the projected path, it may hold together long enough to help with the Washington state wildfires.

Good luck.  After experiencing at least a half dozen hurricanes here on Southern Connecticut, I hope you stocked up on batteries, filled up water jugs and the bathtub.  Put flashlights in every room.   And made sure the gas grill tank is full.

As a Midwest guy I have no experience with hurricanes. Why fill up the bathtub?

Water to use to flush the toilets!

Yeah, that makes sense.

When the power goes out the well doesn't work. City water depends where you are if the pump has a generator.  You need the tub to flush toilets with a bucket and wash up.

Everyone, thanks for the tips.  Lots of rain today, but so far it's not too bad.  I'm hearing that the worst of it will come later tonight and possibly tomorrow morning.  Crossing my fingers that all turns out okay for those of us in the storm's path.

Scoop's collective fingers are crossed too. Best of luck, SoCal.

Final report: Consistent rain throughout the day yesterday.  Some winds kicked up last night, but not bad at all.  It was quiet by the morning.  All in all it felt like a regular rain storm that we get during the winter months.  Luckily, as a wise old Englishman once said (wrote) "much ado about nothing."

Brother SoCal

Glad to hear. What happened to you sounds like what happened to us with Nicole last year. Modest water (for Florida) and lots of wind. But no real damage.

Good luck with whatever clean-up you have
