How big were they in the 70's? I fking love them.
They were thick as a brick.
They were popular until they were caught sitting on a park bench, eyeing little girls with bad intent.
Plus, the snot running down the nose was gross.
Scoop...
Really don't mind if you sit this one out.
It all came crashing down when he caught;
His woman and his best friend,
In bed and having fun
Never a fan - something about Flute solos
Lend me your ear while I call you a fool
Definitely the most popular rock band among the flute players in our school band.
Loved his seed drilling invention.
He was too o-o-old to rock and ro-o-oll, but he was too young to die.
This is a great example of the youngsters asking the older and wiser members of scoop for advice and perspective.
Outstanding use of the forum.
Tull themselves? Interesting 3-hit wonder. Hard to listen to a full album.
Aqualung ... Thick as a Brick ... Locomotive Breath ... Bungle Through the Jungle ... Too Old To Rock 'N Roll, Too Young To Die ... A New Day Yesterday ... Cross-Eyed Mary ... Songs From the Wood ... Teacher ... Heavy Horses ... Mother Goose ... The Whistler.
More than 3 good songs.
Yes. WAY more than "3 good songs". Please.
Why the flute prejudice?

I wasn't a huge fan, but yeah. They had six studio albums that charted in the top 10 (back when such things mattered) and a seventh that checked in at #11.
They weren't Zeppelin or The Who, but far more successful than a three-hit wonder.
Ian Anderson , of Jethro Tull, commenting on the early days of The Beatles . Interesting insight from a contemporary .

Ian Anderson is an amazing musician and composer.
"Jump up, look around
Find yourself some fun
No sense in sitting there
Hating everyone
No man's an island
And his castle isn't home
The nest is full of nothing
When the bird has flown"
"Life's a long song, but the tune ends too soon for us all."

I was not aware of ubiquitous flautist prejudice until today. And the entire band has solid musicians.
I believe this is the concert I went to.

IMHO, Ian Anderson's acoustic guitar playing even exceeds his flute playing.
Be sure to wish Ian a happy birthday tomorrow. Not my type of music, but to each his own.

I'll agree with more than 3 good songs. Can't agree that "Bungle Through The Jungle" was one of them.

You don't have to agree, Lenny. There are a bazillion songs out there - something for everyone!
And who can forget when Jethro Tull beating Metallica for the Grammy for Best Heavy Metal Performance? Heavy Metal Flute!

They're not heavy metal.
That is the point.
Google 'Jethro Tull beats Metallica.'

They're not heavy metal.
You're right, but they still won. Their manager told them not to show up to the Grammy's thinking there was no way they would win, but they did (foreshadowing for Milli Vanilli????).
In response to their win, Jethro Tull issues this photo.

Dang it ... I messed up with my previous response. The proper one, obviously, should have been:
Well, that's all right by me.

That was the 1st of several Tull shows that I went to.
