We think too much of ourselves.
If there are aliens with the capabilities of interstellar travel out there, they really have nothing to gain from dealing with us outside of scientific curiosity. We are a relatively unspectacular species living on a dinky, out of the way planet. It's like one of us walking by an anthill.

Maybe they have thanks for playing technology? I'm not saying they're violent but yes, they could be famished. Anything is possible.

This is largely how I think of this, and an explanation for why we don't find evidence of advanced life outside our solar system.
Unless there is some fancy technology that deals with time dilation and speed of travel. The likelihood that a species would encounter are speck of the universe, while we exist is nil. Similarly, as we scour the universe with telescopes, the likelihood that intelligent life was generating signals that overlap temporally (taking into consideration the speed of light and related time dilation) with us looking for them is equally nil.
So, one of two possibilities regarding aliens.
1. Technology exists that is beyond our comprehension that deals with the speed of light and time/space dilation.
If this is true, and we've accessed alien technology as others claim...why haven't we used it to create more advanced forms of travel.
2. We have never encountered alien life/technology, which may or may not imply that there is no way to deal with the speed of light and time/space dilation issues.
Possibility 2 is more likely. Possibility 1 is more fun.
Either way, this hearing will have no effect on our lives.

Exactly. I guessing that if they are that far advanced to solve space/time, they would see us as such a primitive society that we wouldn't be worth the trouble.

This is mostly where I come out, but I think we tend to overly-deify theoretical alien civilizations on account of their necessarily-superior technology. But that doesn't necessarily follow. Just because their technology would be so much more advanced does not mean they wouldn't have some of the same "universal" motivations that would make humans interested in other less advanced civilizations if we had the means. Pure curiosity, rogue alien actors, and of course sex stuff are all reasons members of alien civilizations might want to f**k around on Earth.
Honestly, who knows. I watched some of the testimony and found it interesting.
If these men can back up their claims or give congress meaningful further questions to ask then maybe it wasn't a total waste of time.
I think there is a better chance that we never hear about this topic again. There are too many reasons that this stuff doesn't exist rather than it existing.

There is a novella called "Three Worlds Collide" by Eliezer Yudkowsky that to some extent (an in a bit of an absurdist type style) deals with the aspect of how civilizations/cultures/morals/ethics may differ between alien civilizations encountering each other.
