He’s daring them to fire him.
-
Time to fall on his sword and make his exit.
-
Hammered by 8:30.
Probably a typical Huggie happy hour.

He'll be dead in five years.
Man needs help. Actual help.
-
He’s really not that old. I would have guessed closer to 80.
-
Sometimes, it isn't the age, it's the miles.
-
He’s daring them to fire him.
If so, I believe he will have succeeded this time.
-
Don't care for or about Huggins. I'm just glad he didn't hurt or kill anyone.
Should be an interesting hire. Not an ideal time to look for a coach.
-
Will probably be an assistant with the interim tag attached.
-
If so, I believe he will have succeeded this time.
The only way he keeps his job is if he had a medical emergency (ie stroke). There is zero chance WV keeps him if it is a DUI.
-

Seriously

"It's the Couchburners, It's the Couchburners" on Line 1

WVU picked him up as HC just a few years after his first DUI. They know who they hired.
Took Cincy a year to negotiate a Huggy resignation. It may be a while before WVU takes action.

Go to the CBS link in the original post. From there hit the link to "city of Pittsburgh official website"----police blotter. He was stopped in traffic with a shredded tire. Once the cops got he and his auto off to the side, they administered field sobriety tests, all of which he apparently failed.
Not looking too promising for the medical emergency dodge.
-
He’s lucky he didn’t kill anyone. The incident happened a few blocks from Acrisure Stadium where the Taylor Swift show had just started. There were probably 100,000 people in the area. I’m guessing that’s why he was down there- “pregaming” with his boosters.
I’m guessing he resigns before he’s fired.
-
Hey, bro didn’t puke on his car this time at least?
-
LOL … He won’t resign. No way
I’m not even sure WVU will fire him.
But, he’s a disgrace. Drunk out of his mind … and to damn STOOPID to even have some WVU flunky drive him home
( or to the next bar ) !
-
My first thought when they said he had a BAC of .21 was when hasn't he had a BAC of .21!
-
My guess is that he’s gone by Tuesday.
-
Maybe Alabama will hire him to replace Oats.

You need to take it easy on Huggins, he didn't kill anyone.
-
I know a lot of Scoopers like him because of the whole anti-Catholic thing, but enough is enough. Put this cow out to pasture.

Went to Burger King. Should have went to Arbys

He needs to be canned and he definitely needs help. And I'm a Huggy fan

Any potential immediate impact transfer on that roster that plays tbe 3/4?

Big NIL money was offered to the transfers they brought in.

Apparently he’s going to resign. Undoubtedly accepted a buy out.

Causes one to wonder what his blood alcohol level was during the radio interview.
-
Hope he gets the help he needs.
-
Hope he gets the help he needs.
Exactly. He’s done as a basketball coach but not as a human being. Hope he’s hit bottom and can make amends and reclaim his life.
-
Ok Tower, my prediction was wrong …
I did not think he had enough integrity to resign.
Hopefully he goes into an actual re-hab program
-
Indeed.

Yeah, this is one of those situations that’s so bad I just feel sorry for the person. Thank god he didn’t injure or kill someone driving. Obviously in the throes of a deep and disabling addiction.

The PR damage is worse than the police report for him. The cops had body cams on which are not only high def video and audio, but subject to FOIA requests. It’ll be out there soon if it isn’t already.

Yes, exactly right. This is extremely serious and I guarantee this isn't the first time Huggins has driven drunk. It's especially troubling because we're talking about a guy who could have a personal chauffeur and isn't a child. Why the F would he be driving intoxicated? Inexcusable. I have always liked Bob Huggins but I cannot have sympathy for someone who could have easily mowed down innocent people. He needs to get some help and do some serious soul searching.
-

Since he was already arrested once passed out at a stop sign with puke all over the floor of his car that’s a pretty safe guarantee.

I wasn't even thinking about that but you're correct. Totally inexcusable and clearly he has not learned anything.
-
Seems like a lot of self-destructive behavior. Wonder how much depression could be a part of his life as well.
-
BTW, the WVU board are almost universal in saying "yeah he has to go" as well.
-
In addition to all of his legal and other problems brought on by the heavy boozing, I recall that about 20-25 years ago he had a serious heart attack. Walking around with a chest full of stents since.
At age 69, seriously overweight ( pushing 300 I would guess). High stress work. Getting loaded on a regular basis.
Dude is a poster boy for destructive behavior. The incident in Pittsburgh and WVU forcing him into retirement no doubt may save his life ( or I should say extend it).

Yes, good point dtd. And I would say he's significantly over 3 bills with no evidence he's tried to manage his weight since he had a major heart attack.
-

If the totality of your life’s work had you ending up in West Virginia, you’d be depressed too.
Seriously, hope he gets the help he desperately needs.

UW hired drivers and minders for Bielma, Barry, and Bo.
Bo and Barry were man whores and Bielma would give his people the slip like in a bad spy movie.

Perhaps WVU''s funds were depleted? Huggy could have hired a fleet of limos Ziggy.
-
I think he was forced to resign because the empty beer cans turned out to be bud light…..
-
Apparently the "Country Roads Trust" will allow WVU to go after Coach K and others.
-
I spilled some drinks with Huggy & Mike Deane at Turners back in the day. Never met a coach who loved Marquette and understood what it meant more than Bob Huggins.
Really hope he gets the help he needs bc there is a good many under there but he has a lot of work to do.

Look, there is something about Huggie Bear I always loved. Kinda like Digger Phelps. He was the enemy but he was an enemy you could hate and love at the same time and laugh with.
Maybe that's why Buzz danced on the UVW logo years ago.
I hope Huggie gets the treatment he needs. Somehow, I think there is an incredibly decent human being under the rough exterior. But he needs a lot of help!

I ask this as the child of an ND alum who grew up rooting for ND (and still root for them in football): What in the hell could you possibly love about Digger Phelps? You might want to see a neurologist. I fear that there may be something seriously wrong with you.

I always have a soft spot for Huggins. I loved to beat him and loved how his teams played. I hope he gets the needed help and has a great retirement. I will miss him.

Ha! I agree. Don’t know many ND fans/alums that like Digger. I get the impression he was a complete dick to people in and around ND.

I absolutely despised Huggins in the Cincy era. But I was a kid and overly emotional ;D
I loved WVU era Huggins, even when they were a thorn in Marquette's side in the BE era. He's old school (in some not great ways) but he seems like someone who is genuinely kind/caring and generous and loyal to those around him. Jordan McCabe had a post this weekend about how Huggins brought his mother to Morgantown and made sure she got the absolute best treatment when she was battling cancer.

I ran into Huggins in a bar in Morgantown (shocking!) in my early 20s, maybe a year or so after he took the WVU job. As my friend and I were like "oh sh** its Huggins" and debated what to say to him, he looked over and saw the throwback MU shirt t shirt I happened to be wearing and said "thats a pretty awesome shirt man" and proceeded to talk about Marquette with us for like 5 min. Completely changed my perception of him for the better at the time.

Same... grew up absolutely hating him and those Cincy teams.
I know people make fun of the moment, but what changed my view on him was when Da'Sean Butler blew his knee out at the Final Four. The guy was hysterical on the court and Huggins immediately went into parent mode to try and calm him down.
I hope Huggy can get whatever help he needs.

FWIW
This was just before COVID. One of my California cousins moved to Morgantown when her husband got accepted to get some PHd PhysEd program that WVU is well known for. On one school break they paid a visit to Connecticut to visit all the family in the area. The husband said Huggins was generous with his time on campus and was very well liked by the entire WVU staff. He was nice to everyone, routinely did any favor the university asked and even made a point to attend staff & university meetings where sports team coaches generally were expected to be no shows.
I hope he gets the help he needs because seeing him on the sidelines was always entertaining.

I remember him getting tossed in a game and, after continuing to fume and rant for a while, he finally headed into the tunnel. Then he turned around shortly afterward and came back out to fume and rant some more before going back into the tunnel and heading to the locker room.

Cut her some slack. She loves her Dad and is in denial. Unless she’s an alcoholic too she knows that that the “ he drinks like 90% of us” is BS but it’s how she’s coping.

Most people don’t have a choice - they’re treated locally. Probably more true for West Virginians that the US population in general.

Genuinely, West Virgina's admins deserve this mess for not firing him "for cause" either of the two times they had a chance to.
Making him "resign" is an abject disaster.

Can’t they just fire him for cause right now.

You would be surprised at the number of older people who don't. Especially if they have someone who is willing (or paid) to print out all of their emails for them and send responses.

I spend time with my grandma and her friends. Too many 90 year olds out there using email, clicking on everything, responding to everything, sending people money.
And here's Huggy making good decisions. Let the lawyer deal with it.

The same length of time he has been making someone else do it.
I am almost a decade younger than Huggy and I am astonished by the number of friends and acquaintances my age who share an email account with their spouse. And in almost all cases, it is in the husband's name, but it is the wife that actually uses it

Edit: apparently, despite my sarcasm I was too accurate.
