Title: NCAA Prediction
Post by: Goose on March 16, 2023, 07:36:19 PM
Like many folks on scoop, I have refrained from making bold predictions about the tournament because I wanted to make a wise prediction. Sitting here today, I would be surprised if they did not play in E8 and think they can win it all.

I have said many times, Shaka will have more talented teams, but hard pressed to have a better all around team. I predict this team goes E8 or further and would not bet against them regardless of the opponent.

For the record, this is not a home team crazy prediction. I have believed in defensive potential and think that paves the way to Houston.

I am hoping Muggsy is saying Goose was right in two weeks.

I recently picked us to win it all, and I don't think it's some kind of wild, home-town, pie-in-the-sky prediction - plenty of national pundits also are picking us to win the East.

Marquette is really, really good!

Yeah, I thought there was an identical topic/poll also.

Sorry for the duplicate thread.

No big deal. I remembered it from earlier today.  Heck, you even posted in it.

Goose has been spot-on about MU for 2 full years.  Nothing will be easy in this tournament but there is no question we have the potential to inflict paralyzing damage to all comers.

Paralyzing damage isn't something to make light of.  I'd hope our student athletes play the game clean and with great effort.  Maiming opponents isn't something a Jesuit institution should support

Everyone understands my point.  This isn't 1st grade literal reading.

Marquette will not be paralyzing anyone. You will not see a forearm or an elbow applied to anyone's face, unless it's inadvertent. Some of the players will play more physical than they have. You get five fouls. Use them. The team isn't built to smack you in the face in the paint. However, I see a reason to believe that an effort will be make to attack. And press more on defense. Throw it out there. The team does so many things well and all they need to do is play will more effort. And confidence.

And I don't think they're lacking in confidence.

Marquette will get the rusty hacksaw from the trunk of Shaka's car and cut every limb off every opponent. Then comes the acid to spray into our opponents' eyes. And finally, cruelest of all, we'll make them listen to an infinite loop of Pete Gillen analysis.

Yikes!! You're scaring me. None of these guys are capable of violence.  It's just something Smart named his defense and his philosophy. Cheers.

Spot on Uncle, not what we were taught. Let's have a bowl before the game.

I certainly hope Goose is right. I watched a lot of basketball yesterday, and Texas and Duke were, by far, the two best teams I saw. While watching, I was trying to figure out if MU could, at their best, beat either one of them. I have to admit that it would be difficult. The Duke / Tenn game will be a good one. And, I am hoping that either Prov (doubtful) or KState take care of Kentucky.

The athleticism was impressive yesterday—so many transfer mercenaries. Also learned we are one of the shortest teams in the country.

Conversely i saw no team play together like ours.  Lots of good teams with players hunting their own shots. No O better than ours (albeit great performances and athletes making up for worse system).

Let's go. It becomes real in a few hours.
