Sorry if posted. Mitchell damn near got a foul on that last three ball by St.J at the end of the game and it looked like Smart pulled Mitchell to one side and in an apparent hug gave him an earful.
Stevie made some uncharacteristic dumb plays... that shot should never have been available.
i was holding my ya-ya's on that one...if the refs couldn't call TK getting tackled on that inbounds play i'll be damned if they were going to call a phantom touch on the usual flop facades these guys are taught to do
Wtf are you talking about. Stevie's closeout was great and won the game. You are so wrong.
Here is the video. Sure looked like Stevie was late and almost fell victim to a flop. Looks like Smart had a talk with him. But, I was not privy to the conversation. Why I asked for the board's thoughts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uf-oGQqU4ec
Shaka said to him not to think about fouling the guy shooting a 3 in desperation and almost costing us the game. Because we won. But don't ever do that again. You're a bonehead but I love you.
I saw one angle where it looked like Stevie may have tipped it. Maybe that was a congratulatory hug?

Guys, you're way off on this one. Shaka gave Stevie a hug because Mitchell made an awful play in regulation by fouling a three point shooter late with Marquette up four. Shaka more than likely came back to offer words of encouragement to his young player for hanging in there after what could have been a costly mistake.
He flew at him but to the side. Exactly what to do in that scenario.

Looked to me like TK flopped and I thought it was a great no call. He literally slammed on the brakes for the sole purpose of trying to trick the ref into calling a foul

An offensive player is entitled to stop. The defender is not allowed to just mow you over if you stop. That was most definitely not a flop consider the defender ended up on top of TK. If you thought that was a great no call I have some investment advice for you.
Llooked like a clean play. Tho neither Shaka nor Stevie were smiling after that hug and talk.

You all are crazy. There should have been no need for a close out. Why is he sagging off a three point shooter in no man's land with a 2 point lead. Give up a contested two and go to double OT if you have to but we were about a half inch away from heartbreak on that play.

He's sagging to keep the driver(Addae Wusu who was 6-11 from the field) out of the lane and the driver passed it to a 23% 3 point shooter. Good closeout as well.
Trying to read what the conversation was is now the new slap of five?

Any lip readers on Scoop!
Lotta armchair coaches here. Mitchell may have sagged a little too much but his close out was perfect.

Was he successful at keeping the driver out of the lane? He got stuck in between, as he should have expected, and wound up giving a wide open clean look. I love Stevie, but that was dumb positioning that very nearly cost us the game.

It wasn't that clean of a look.
