I can't believe I'm writing this, given where we started the season. But this is what needs to happen for MU to clinch a Big East Title, as of 2/26/23.
Creighton is eliminated from a share of the Big East title.
Xavier is eliminated from an outright Big East title.
Xavier is eliminated from a share of the Big East title with a MU win or X loss.
Providence is eliminated from an outright Big East.
Providence is eliminated from a share of the Big East title with a MU win or Prov loss.
Xavier and Providence still have to play each other, which guarantees a loss for one of them.

Since I'll be at Saturdays game I'm wondering, if Prov loses tonight and we win on Saturday do you think they do a net cutting after the game? Would absolutely love to see it. Although I'll also be at St. John's game so if it has to wait it has to wait....
I'm hoping we clinch sole possession at Butler game. I'll run on the court and cut the net at Hinkle.
I would imagine any net cutting and trophy lifting won't happen until after the StJ game on 3/4.
Get your tickets, I got mine plus 5 last night, along with 6 F*CK 'EM! shirts for the group.
If it does indeed happen I plan on being on the court to celebrate with Shaka and the fellas!
Let's go now!!

With the 1PM tip and a national TV Bucks game at 7:30 I don't think MU will be afforded that opportunity.
Hopefully UConn helps us and we can celebrate Saturday.

MU should schedule their own post-game championship celebration at the Al after the St. Johns game. They can sell beer there now, so it's a huge money making opportunity.
Hoping they'd only bring out a trophy if/when we clinch the outright title, or if it's a tie then after the St. John's game/when the regular season is done.
If they want practice cutting nets for bigger things, go ahead and cut them. I'd be fine with no net cutting though.
IMHO clinching a tie for the conference title with two games remaining does not warrant a net cutting or a court storming. Maybe a few extra pats on the back but that's it.
No way they cut the nets Saturday. That is in direct contradiction to the teams "no finish line" motto all year.

If they're really living up to that motto they shouldn't even cut the nets down in Houston. Just keep 'em up till next year!

I agree with this!
Yep, there's no chance that if Marquette guarantees a split if the BE Title on Saturday that they celebrate it officially.
Fans will know, and players will feel accomplishment, but the main celebration will come after the StJ game.
That game at the very least deserves a storming of the court.
I was on the court in 2003 when Marquette clinched a conference title and it was an unforgettable memory.
This one will be as well, and you bet you're behind I will find my way on that court. I just hope the students organize the storming

So do I. If they find themselves in that position, I
really hope they don't do that. Send a message - just another day at the office.

Celebrate it if they beat DePaul. The Big East counts all tied teams as champions thus they have clinched a championship.
I assume they would receive the trophy then?
If MU beats DePaul, I believe they will get handed the trophy so you celebrate it then. At home. If everything goes as planned MU clinches it outright at Butler.
If MU clinches at home it takes the pressure off and MU can clinch outright against Butler and then we can give some players either more rest or extra minutes against St Johns especially if we get up Big early.
Personally, I like the celebration against DePaul because 1. Gives you the hunger to get another title after a few games that don't mean anything are played.
2. We don't have Srs that play significant minutes but Zach and Kennedy deserve their moment. let them have that quick and then celebrate again as a rally to send off to NY.
Are we sure they don't get the trophy after the last regular season game of the season?
It seems to me like that would be the case, but I don't know the answer, I'm just guessing.
I'd be surprised if Shaka was ok with celebrating on Saturday if they win, but maybe I'm wrong
I think there will be a court storming and an official announcement by the PA if they win Saturday. We'd have won a title. What if they beat Butler but then lose to SJU? Outright title but the guys never get that moment? Seems wrong. They should enjoy it.
In 2017-2018, X clinched a share of the Big Title in the second to last game of the season. They received the trophy and celebrated then.
In 2019, Nova won at Butler but didn't clinch a share as MU was ahead in the standings with three games to play versus Nova's one. MU then lost to Creighton and Seton Hall. Nova ended up losing to Seton Hall and didn't know if MU would share or if the would win it out right. We know what happened.
In 2020, Seton Hall beat MU on Feb 29th; however; they didn't clinch a share until March 1st when Creighton lost. They put out a press release. Seton Hall then lost the last two to end up tied with Creighton and Nova. Both celebrated on after winning their share.
2021 was a weird year with COVID cancellations and Nova won based on winning % even though they played 5 less games. Nova beat Creighton to clinch it and they celebrated.
2022 another weird year. Providence wins on win percentage after playing 3 less games. There couldn't be a share so they celebrated when the clinched.
Seems that teams celebrate it at the game when they clinch the title if they knew that is the game that would clinched it. Ie Providence did not when they beat MU because it was the Creighton loss the next day that officially clinched it. Teams celebrate regardless of whether it is a share or outright.
Thanks for the data.
Since we only have one I had no idea.
That's why all season I've been saying that a Big East Championship changes my entire outlook on the year long success.
If, WHEN, they pull it off the entire season will be a resounding success no matta what happens afterwards.
It's been such a damn joy thus far.
I'm ready for them to get all the accolades they deserve.
They have made us all proud.
Finish strong.
EDIT: I mean NO FINISH LINE
Crean is coming Saturday with a banner

And funds for the soccer stadium.
Too soon for this. A win on Saturday is not a given. Win that game, then talk trophy. Going to Butler in a must win situation to win the conference outright? No thx..

I agree with the sentiment for the players. Focus on winning the game but the administrative staff should be planning to celebrate the win. I expect the Big East to have a trophy there. Win the game. Get the celebration out of your system focus on clinching it outright against Butler. I don't want the players to go into the last home game, especially if Butler pulls out an upset, thinking about celebrating at the end of the St John's game.
Just. Win. Saturday.
Updated. With their loss to Nova, Creighton can no longer win an outright Big East title.

Updated again. Worst we can do now is tie one of X and Providence, since they still play each other.
not that this really matters that much given we want to win the big east out right, but from a seeding perspective, this should allow us to move up in the overall standings, eyn'a?
purdue(5), virginia(6), arizona(7) and texas(8) all lose so we've got to move up
