Title: DePaul roll call
Post by: Norm on February 21, 2023, 10:55:09 PM
Who is heading to the game on Saturday v DePaul? How far are you coming from to attend the game? I'm coming in from DC.

Looks like MU has a chance to clinch at least a share of the Big East regular season title if UConn can beat Providence this week. Should be a great game to attend in person!

Mrs. 82 and I will be there, making the trip from Charlotte. Four others in our party -- our son from Chicago, and our buddies from Detroit and Chicago.

First Marquette game I've been able to make this season. Can't wait! Then going to Hinkle for that win, too.

Will be there with the family. Wife and I have taken the kids to several games over the years (since 2014 or so) but super excited they're finally getting a chance to experience the atmosphere of watching a top 10 team at home in person.

There is a bar right next to the stadium; Chatham Tap I believe. My daughter is a frosh at Butler so I am not sure of my pre-game "obligations" as of now, but would be interested in meeting up with Scoopers if I can. I'll continue to follow the conversation on that.

I posted in the Trading Post, but I do have two extra pretty good tickets I would prefer to sell to MU fans. Please message me if interested in hopefully seeing MU clinch the outright title.

Funny story. Me and my MU buddies who are scattered all across the country wanted to get together for one game this year. We were picked 9th in the conference and our expectations were low, so we collectively thought the DePaul game would give us one of the best chances to see a victory on a weekend home game. That's why we picked it: best chance to see a win together.

Turns out, it is actually the game MU will most likely clinch a share of the Big East title. Crazy how that ended up.

I'll be in attendance with 9 others:

The other 3 in my season ticket group
Brother and 8 year old nephew - his first game*
Sister and 13 year old niece - her second ever game (went to Xavier with me last year)
Parents

We planned this back in January not expecting the stakes to be this high... but damn do I love that they are.

*Taking the kid to the Bucks game on Friday night with a chance of Sunday as well.  His frame of reference is the Wisconsin Herd so expecting him to be blown away.  Packed his travel bag on Tuesday night and has already told his dad that this is going to be the greatest weekend of his life.

Our other daughter who lives in town (also a former student Fanatic who alternates with her sister going to the games with me) bought one for herself a couple of days ago because she wants to see something special.

Looking at DePaul they've had some players coming back and going out from injury lately.

Biggest news is that their starting C, Nick Ongenda, is back after being injured all season. In his three games back his offense has looked all out of sorts (shooting 30% from the field) but his defense and rebounding are in form. He's averaging almost 8 boards and 6! blocks a game. He has also fouled out of 2/3 games.

Right after Ongenda came back, they lost his replacement, Yor Anei, to a hamstring injury. He's considered day to day and may play on Saturday.

Jalen Terry came back from about a month long absence. He's an undersized scoring SG that comes off the bench.

Zion Cruz, the highest rated recruit in recent history for DePaul, missed two games with injury, played an uninspiring 7 minutes against Xavier, and then didn't play in their last game. He has been a massive disappointment considering he was Depaul's first top 50 recruit in a long time.

Even if all 4 are available to go, I still expect a double digit beatdown by Marquette. DePaul's only hope at keeping close is if Gibson, Johnson, and Gerbrewhit all go bonkers from three while we have an off shooting night. Even if that happens, we've shown in recent games that we can win under those circumstances against better competition.

Hearing "Streets" and "Cotton Eyed Joe" may make a reappearance tomorrow night.  Wear your Gold Unitards, people.

Have they stopped playing Jump Around? If so, does anyone know the reason? I feel it may not be a coincidence as that was a staple for many years.

Starting the trek in a couple/few hours. Staying at the Hyatt - any dinner (tonight) or brunch/lunch recommendations?

Walk to the Oak Barrel for brunch or check out Third Street Market Hall for a good variety of restaurants to choose from.

Uncle Wolfie's Breakfast Tavern, Sweet Diner, The Knick and Tre Rivali are all good options as well.

I have had season tickets for 37 years.  Have moved to Florida, but keep an apartment here in Mequon for business.  Maybe my last year.

My wife did not come up at all last winter, hates the cold.  But new grandson "dragged"  her up here!

We will both be there reveling in the moment!   BEAST CHAMPS!

Benelux is legit, was recommended by my son when I went for NMD. It gets crowded, told us 25 minute wait but got table within 10 mins.

Tried to go to Wicked for bar after Benelux but bar was extremely crowded, so headed to Public Market, lots of bars in there now since I last went to a game in 2016.

BJ, try Toast for brunch if you can get in! It's the best in MKE by far.

Yes, Trocadero closed.  Lowlands includes the two you mentioned plus Cafe Centraal and Buckatoban.

Was showing my grandma (MU alum) the campus a few weeks back before the NMD game.

She goes "oh... look at the ambulances!" 2 students passed out in a parking lot... BJ probably knows them.

Ask your grandmother if she remembers wapatula parties. The host provided a large, galvanized pail from a farm supply store and everyone who came was expected to bring a bottle of hooch to dump into the pail, with the mixture referred to as wapatula.
