Goose,
Unlike a lot of posters your knowledge and foresight once again proved to be accurate this evening. By the 14 min mark in the 2H I truly did feel this game was right there for us. What most pleased me was Oso's aggressiveness coming out of half-time. I felt very strongly he could take Kalky or whoever off the bounce. Once he made that little 9 footer the floodgates opened. We stumbled a bit down the stretch but a win like this can only build more confidence. I think defensively we really picked it up and wore them down.

It doesn't take much look knowledgeable on this site. Oso set the tone with aggressive play on the offensive side of the court. Great D to get the second going really changed the game, imo.

Creighton's weakness is not much athletically on the wings and MU exploited that.

Fair take. There were an extraordinary number of comments with this particular game, before and during, that were WAY off the mark.
I was also beyond dumbfounded that some posters said after XU beat UCONN, and we were tied with them at the time, that they "were in the driver's seat". What a bunch of utter nonsense.

Mug,
Before the game many, many, people doubted we had a chance. During the course of the game I read a lot of posts that insinuated we were done within the first 12 mins. As far as the game "going either way" the fact is we struggled mightily for 5 mins down the stretch and honestly should have won pretty comfortably.

My point is that that was not an unrealistic possibility, not with the way Creighton has been playing and at their place. Sure folks gave up, and that sucks and was wrong, but lighten up on the before the game concerns.
In the interview after the guy was asking Shaka about Kolek and how clutch he is, and how is that? And Shaka say, "big nuts". Anyone else here that!!

He is a badass. More importantly, he's a perfect fit here. I think we found our Few/Izzo/Wright/insert long-tenured winning coach here
Crean was a relentless motivator and made me feel hopeful and drawn into the team
I really liked Buzz at the time and found him endearing, fake or not. He made me feel proud and invested in the team, as individuals and a program.
But Shaka is the first coach in my 30+ years of MU fanship that has me consistently ready to run through a wall. And it's not some grand Any Given Sunday type pep talk. It's the attitude, the energy, the insistence, this is just FUN to watch. It defies proper description at times.

TAMU
There is ZERO doubt that it is a perfect fit for Shaka and Marquette. I cannot stress enough what he brings to the university as a whole. It is a joy to watch this program being built and I think they are just getting started. It is going to be a fun ride and I hope everyone enjoys the excitement of the building of a program as much the on court success. This is not happening by accident.
I'm still trying to wrap my head around the fact that we have a coach who makes fantastic halftime adjustments. The first 12 minutes of the second half last nite was a clinic and had the Creighton fans around me frustrated and stunned.

Seriously, how did they act towards you? I have found many diehard fans of opponents respect my being a Marquette fan sitting near or next to them. Occasionally we will even exchange a few thoughts regarding the game that would be very printable here. The key is
respect- offer it and you are far more likely to receive it in return. I have no problem telling them that I think a player or a possession on their team was impressive. Often they will reply in kind.

February, 1974. Milwaukee Arena. Marquette coach Al McGuire leaps on top of the scorer's table and celebrates after Maurice Lucas hit a ridiculous last second jump shot to give the Warriors a one point victory over Wisconsin. In the stands almost directly opposite McGuire is Glenn Hughes, father of Kim and Kerry Hughes, Wisconsin's "Twin Towers of Power". Walking in the foreground is dejected Badger Coach, John Powless. Marquette went on to the NCAA tournament and finished second overall. Hank Raymond's reaction is priceless too.
Notice Mr. Hughes "salute" to Mr. McGuire. Anytime you can get Bucky fans this upset, you have my utmost respect.

I was driving from Milwaukee to Columbia last night. Stopped for dinner early in the first half and had the iPad out to watch the game. Turned it off at half, started getting texts as we were getting back to the car that seemed like MU was doing well, so decided to be superstitious and not turn the game on the radio (well, app). When the game was over, I had to turn the postgame on. In his interview with homer, Shaka said something along the lines of, "We take a back seat to nobody. These guys wanted this game and they went out and took it." It was awesome.

I wonder whether, and how much, Shaka's reaction was triggered by items (and possibly verbal trash) being thrown at the MU bench. That might explain why he turned toward the crowd.

Yep all 3 conference games.
Moser inherits 2 rising senior starters from a NCAA tourney team, brings in the Big Sky POY who was one of the most coveted transfers in the portal, plus Goldwire who was a partial starter over 2 years on a really good Duke team and the weird COVID Duke team....proceeds to go 19-16 (including losing 12 of 15 after the new year to start 2022) and miss the NCAAs
Shaka returns 51 total minutes and 15 total points from a sub .500 team. Brings in an unproven guy from Clemson playing less than 10 min. A solid mid major guard with minimal major conference experience. And an experienced B10 who had never been a scorer or averaged more than 9PPG in a season. Projected as 10th in conference, below Gtown. Finishes 6th, sweeps Nova, makes the NCAA.
Year 2...
MU is a top 10 team on track to win the BE, despite bringing in no D1 transfers.
Oklahoma brings back 4 of their top 6 players, replaces Gibson with Grant Sherfield who lead the Mountain West in assists the last 2 years and was top 3 in scoring in conference each of those years. Currently 13-15, dead last in the B12, and have 2 road games against top 20 teams and a home game against TCU remaining. 14-17 (4-14) seems like the best case scenario.
My GOD did we make the right choice. Results, culture, national perception, etc... Hell I hope Moser goes to ND so we can restart that series and mop the floor with them and further prove it.
