1. The inside track for the Big East regular season title. Wow. Just wow.
2. When the hobbit (Scheierman) got hot in the first half, it felt inevitable. I wish he would have stayed cold.
3. Someone said the O's were the problem. OMax, Oso, KOlek, JOnes, JOnes, JOplin, ROss, GOld. So, everybody but Mitchell?
4. Seriously, Stevie. Nobody can still be saying they don't want him to start, right? I want him to play more.
5. Creighton's Mitchell is quite the defensive hemorrhoid. Both team's ramped up their defensive intensity in the second half.
6. Creighton still shot a decent percentage. MU generated turnovers. The announcers kept saying that MU was making Creighton play faster than they were comfortable with. So, a different kind of pressure.
7. Fouls scared the hell out of me. Foul shots scared the hell out of me, too. Thank you, Kam.
8. Hack-an-Oso with 3 mintues left? Wow.
9. Again, not much off the bench.
10. TKo with daggers. Huge stones.
11. Not sure that was a foul. No one gets to complain about the refs for a long time.
11. A clash of titans. And MU found a way. Glorious. Just sit back and revel in it.
Tremendous win!!!!
Incredible

Championship team came out in the 2nd half.
I don't think I sat for the last 7 minutes of game time alone in my living room. What a great win. Such a fun team. F$&! Em February
If felt like hack-an-Oso was a turning point. Making those was huge.

We're so lucky to have Shaka
Yessir!!!!!!!!!!!
Think that's the biggest win since 2013. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but if UCONN beats Providence tomorrow, we can clinch the conference championship Saturday night?
Cut down turnovers in second half. Only two
Oso started hitting those hook shots.
Kam went nuts at start of second half.
Kolek was the lifesaver with those two late baskets, along with Oso free throws after the sack an Oso. One made field goal in seven minutes was bad, but defense great.
Two points from bench and it was Gold, who played two minutes. Matches total points from Kaluma, who was basically a ghost.....what happened to him tonight.

A share yes.
Sweet, sweet, sweet. We're on the pig's back now.
Kam was far too close for comfort on that last heave by Scheierman. I'm sure there's some multiverse where the refs call a foul and Creighton sinks three free throws, but let's be glad we're not living in it!

Seems like a bunch of the teams ahead of us in the Top 16 reveal have lost and/or are losing tonight.

I agree..feel like we got bailed out a little on the call on the inbound play to Kam...that was a pretty minor/tick-tack foul they called on Nembhard, and then it was possible an official could have called Kam for a foul on Scheireman's last second heave. Brutal play there..gotta be smarter.

Didn't like that inbound play. If nobody breaks wide open, you throw it down court with some loop on it so it gets touched at half court. But Kam was definitely fouled; Nembhardt grabbed him around the waist while he was trying to get open.
I liked Kam missing that second FT on purpose. ;)
Agree that we didn't play smart for stretches, but we played effen hard, and really sucked the wind out of the arena in the second half. Just enough at the end to hold on.
Loved the defense our guards played on theirs. Stevie is a total dog.
Gritty road win - great effort by the guys. Even though OMax couldn't stay on his feet, those were hustle errors, which I'll take.
Kam Jones, as good as was in the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half, made some real bone head decisions with the ball on offense in the last 8 minutes. He was a main reason we went in a 6-minute scoring drought without a made field goal. Chucked some bad early 3's on a couple possessions.
Kolek's two baskets in the last two minutes were huge. Clutch FTs by Oso. Kam got the first two and then caused some serious stress missing those final two.
Loved seeing Shaka's excitement when we made that push between the 13 minute and 8 minute mark in the 2nd half.
Great road win. Looking forward to Saturday v DePaul.

Agreed.
Poor coaching call and there weren't many.
You can't inbounds under your hoop there even if you're covered. Worst case throw to your guy at midcourt via a lob and get it picked and a half court prayer.
That not the story though. The story was HT to the under 8 minute stretch.
Championship pedigree.

Nembhard had both hands on Kam's waist and yanked him back with the left.
Creighton got the benefit of soft whistles twice with Kalkbrenner: Kolek's 4th foul looked like a clean block from behind on the double team; and Oso pulled the chair beautifully but called for the foul.
Agreed that Kam could've easily been called for a foul at the buzzer.
The process is alot faster than some ever could have imagined.

Totally agree..have to throw that ball high and to the other end of the court. I didn't like the timeout call after Kam made the FTs to go up 4 with 9 seconds left - that left us in a position to NOT have a timeout to use on that inbound play after CU made their 2 to cut it to 2.
Thankfully we pulled it out nonetheless...huge win and would have been a heartbreaker to lose that one after coming back from down 12 in the first half.

Agree that was a foul, but the fact that they let 0.2 seconds off the clock didn't make sense to me. To my eyes, the fould clearly happened before anyone touched the ball... which I believe means no time should have come off the clock. I thought the defender had ceased contact by the time the ball was touched.

I didn't mind the time-out after the FTs. Shaka wanted to keep the guys calm and focused, and wanted to get a couple of specific points across. But I see your point, too.
That was the definition of stealing one on the road, whew! I think the right foul call was made on Kam inbounding but also Kam clearly fouled Baylor on the half court heave. But hey, win some and lose some, we'll take it tonight!
In the same way the refs were smart enough not to call a T on McDermott at the end, they were smart enough not to call a foul on Kam at the end.
Was able to make it to the game tonight and have to say it is a great atmosphere. Very loud (expect for the first 15 minutes of the 2H).
Will also say Creighton fans are as whiny as Madison fans. They were losing their minds at the end and were even throwing crap on the court.
Great to go into a hostile environment and stick it to them.
Scheierman's pull up 35 footer late in the game helped too, just a terrible decision from him.
Thought Marquette rebounded fairly well, got a couple of unlucky breaks on bricked three pointers (looking at the one off the side of the backboard in the first half) but team rebounding feels much better right now.

Man this team is fun. Let's keep winning, alright?
Rewatching a bit of the game and McDermott can just be a big dumb idiot at times. I mean there's 3 minutes to go in the game, Marquette hasn't scored in 5 minutes, his team is on a 7-0 run, and he does hack-an-oso with 3 minutes left in the game. I'm not sure the exact percentages, but Oso has shot FTs much better in the second half of the season. So glad Oso made him pay for that stupid mistake. I mean Mac was repeatedly outcoached by Wojo..

That Omax flop was a bit excessive. I actually was not impressed with him tonight.
We won probably the 2nd hardest true road game of the year with:
2 bench points
28% 3pt shooting
60% FT shooting.
That's amazing. The ceiling for this team is a NC.

For me, that was MU's best win since we beat Miami in the Sweet 16, so the best win in just shy of 10 years.
Of the many mental realignments I have had to make this year, the biggest may be going in to halftime. Here, down 8, and I am concerned, but still have hope. Makes watching this team so much more fun when you have confidence that they can adjust, regroup, and pull out games even when they don't start well.

Tell that to duanewade and half of Scoop complaining about Oso and Omax during the first half. How many fouls that were called against us that we did not like. We have some whiners here too, me included.
That second half looked like the January MU that we knew and loved. The turning defense to offense, the cutting, Oso acting as the pivot man with beautiful assists Wow it was great to see that MU team reimerge. And in one of the toughest situations they've faced. Kam was grabbed before the inbounds pass, and I figured that is what they called, but they let time run off the clock, so it wasn't. I don't think the foul they called was right, but I thought he was fouled.

I still don't truly understand it...This Marquette team shouldn't be good. They overachieved a year ago and lost Morsell, Lewis, Elliot and Kurath. But now Marquette is going to win the Big East. They are going to be like a 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

There was a subtle play in last night's game that I don't recall seeing ever before. I have been pondering the implications all day.
When Creighton was in their zone, Oso got the ball a stride to the outside of the elbow. No defender shifted toward him. In fact, the Creighton defender on top nearest him was looking for cutters. Kalkbrenner did not leave the middle. Low wing defender stayed with the corner shooter.
I cannot remember a zone not shifting toward the ball.

Anyone who says this isn't a foul is straight up delusional.
I think the only thing the refs screwed up on that play was that the clock should have stayed at 2.0 because the foul occurred before the inbound but instead they dropped it to 1.7

And thus would be a F1.

Although the defender does pull Kam away from the ball and on the way to the floor when ball is on the way

Is that always the case though? I seem to recall it happened to Oso this year where he was fouled before the inbound. I've never known what that rule is though.

We said that last offseason as well and he hasn't even brought out a beta version version of an elbow jumper.
I don't recall that being a common theme considering he didn't really have much of a post up game last season.

I didn't give it a listen. Do they think there's no chance MU wins the BET, but they have a legitimate shot? I mean, whether or not they feel like they got screwed, let's pretend the calls they thought screwed them go their way. So they win by 2 or 3 at home against Marquette, to tie MU in the standings. What makes Creighton so much better that they have a shot while MU doesn't? Again, comin off a home loss to MU to fall 2 games back in the BE standings.
Basically, they don't think MU can beat two of the other top 5 teams on back to back days on a neutral floor.

Havent got to that part yet.
But the two main guys are very complimentary of Kolek. One of them calling him hands down best player in league.
So far through 15 minutes theyve been very complimentary while touching on the fact there were some murky calls.
Will see if things get more negative.

Probably a fair assessment of how hard it will be to win the BE tourney... for any of the top teams in the league. It's not like UConn/PC/X/Creighton can win without beating two top teams on back to back days at the Garden either. Whoever cuts the nets in NYC will have earned it.
I wouldn't take Marquette over the field. But it's not like Marquette has fluked its way into 1st in the Big East. It's a double round robin. And it's not like Creighton is better served in quick turnarounds. They play like 6 guys.
Because of length and depth (hey-o), I think UConn is the team best suited to win 3 games in 3 days.
MU could, but to do so they are going to need all 9 to contribute.

Hopefully the bench can get some more minutes in the next 3 games.
I hope we have nothing to do with UConn the rest of the season.

I don't disagree. It would be fantastic if Seton Hall could somehow overtake them for the 5th seed (unlikely) and put UConn into the 4 games in 4 days category and (hopefully) on the other side of the bracket.

Basically needed Uconn to lose to Prov for that to have a chance.
And we know why we wanted that Prov loss.

I had asked in a different thread if it would have been an f1 and therefore, Creigton got a break. So you think it would have been an intentional (f1 in modern terms)?

I don't think it's a certain F1. I think if it's in the normal action of the play, it would be a normal foul. I thought it's only a flagrant 1 if it's a hack a Shaq type of play where there's no play being made.

By far, Creighton and Providence get the most friendly home court reffing in the league. They should be the last fan base to whine about this.

I certainly think there's a legitimate shot. The most likely scenarios would be St. John's or Butler in our first game, where we likely win 90% of the time. Then UConn or the Providence/Xavier loser in our second game. We've beaten all of those teams already, but can also lose to any of them. Probably a 50/50 game regardless of who it is. Win that, and we get to the Final. Most likely against Creighton or the Xavier/Providence winner, with an outside shot at Villanova or Seton Hall making a surprise appearance. Again, all teams we have beaten at least once.
The hardest part will be getting to the Final, but if we get there, I think there's a good chance we win. I'd say probably 40% chance we get there, 60% chance we win if we do. Really too bad Seton Hall couldn't get to the 5-spot, I was hoping to see them on Friday. Love that matchup, but not meant to be.

Agree, but also think we face them in our second BET game. Awful matchup for us, but UCONN has run hot and cold throughout the BE season. MU, X, Creighton, UCONN, PC and as of late now Nova are all legit contenders.
Snoop
I agree that we will likely face them in the second round and that is life. I was more saying because they are a tough match up. To be honest, if we play them and lose, I do not want to hear the COLE's out in full force going into the NCAA. I am perfectly fine if we win or lose against them in BET, I hope all of the fanbase stay focused on the NCAA moving forward.

Yes, it could be the start of a 2 game losing streak. I doubt it. Win the next 4, lose to UConn in the second round, meh. More rest for the next week.

No doubt it would be a hellish game for us, but let's wait until the final buzzer before writing the (probable) game off as a L.

Field of 68 has a live broadcast going and its Zagarowski with an older player I vaugely remember Jahenns Manigat.
Its mostly just talking Creighton side of the game. But they had a pretty nice take on the controversy of the game ending calls.
Acknowledge some were suspect. But neither blamed the refs. Said it was on the team and Zag talked about how if he was on the team hed be telling the guys all the other ways they coulda won.
Manigat had a funny bit about the Omax flop to get the call. As a fellow canadian he said all canadians flop like that and he did it himself many times and appreciated Omax selling a crucial call.

Now I know why my ears are ringing.
Omax's flop was really quite spectacular, and if he can get away with it, he should definitely add it to his arsenal. He sold it so well that I was almost expecting an EMT team to rush onto the court with a gurney.
But...it needs a name. I had to switch sports to give it a Canadian ring and go with hockey-floppy. Not good enough. Your ideas?
It was a flop, but I don't think it was something unique. I feel we get called for a foul like that each game.

OK. Then how about his making sure the refs saw it? The drama of being prone on the floor was a nice touch.
Well, the BADgers do it every game, and how about Souley Boom when Stevie stole the ball at the top of the key and he looked like JFK in Dallas. Gillen had a coronary.

I had a PC fan only a few feet away from me at last year's BET when Creighton was stomping PC by a tad over 30 points late in the game. PC got a 3, bringing the lead down to the upper 20's, and this guy screams at the top of his lungs "LET"S GO.
