When watching Kam Jones play, is anyone else reminded of a young Nick Van Exel???

Nah, Wade
Reminds me of Diener.

I'm going old school and saying Earl Monroe. The Pearl had all kinds of spin moves and could light it up.

yes with a little more height. van exel relied on quickness, kam seems a little more calculating, but i see what you're talking about
I can't recognize beginning of season Kam to present day Kam. He was just chucking early in the year and now he is playing with much more purpose and calculation. It's been absolutely great to see and I love that he's much more patient with his outside shots while also being much more aggressive taking it to the rim. Absolutely love watching him play these days.
Both left-handed; generally the same build; both willing to fire ùp a 3 anywhere past half court; both kind of load their jump shot from the waist and bring it into the shooting position; both with almost kind of a sidearm release; both good at driving to the rim; both with an abundance of confidence or swagger.

ok yeah, i see it now. shaka has done a terrific job reining kam in. it's what wojo needed to do, but didn't or couldn't with markus
just a little bit at least
Michael Jordan, Dwyane Wade and Joe Dumars ... in a blender.

Although if Wojo had been successful, we might not be enjoying the Shaka era right now.
Scoop feels like a Telegram chat of the PB
Through about 5 games this year, plenty of people were pretty frustrated with Kam's shot selection.
This tweet makes that hilarious. He's gotten so much better each week it seems.

Pretty incredible. With each passing week, the John Dawson comps look better and better.

Are Kam's spin cycle, YMCA, underhanded swooping layups "good" shots? I dunno, but they are pretty amazing.
Omax does something similar. Kolek had a beautiful right handed high scoop over Clanigan. Pure speculation, but with the coaching staff's love of lay ups, I would assume that it is something they work on.

They are for him because he can make those rather consistently! And I have noticed he is falling down less after layups. He almost always ended up on the floor before. He is fun to watch and a true asset to the team and Marquette U!
They literally spend dozens of hours working on that stuff.
The two years I assistant coached at a very good high school basketball program, our coach (who was amazing) had the players working on all types of layups every single practice. Both hands. Every possible angle. High arching ones. Step-throughs. Reverses. Putbacks through contact. The whole 9 yards. And that's during the season, between games. During the offseason he had workouts dedicated only to layups and jumpers.
In college, it's obviously even more intense. There is no doubt Kam, O-Max and Kolek spent a ton of time getting so much better at that part of their game, and they still are working at it and improving. It's inspirational, really.
Uconn board made note of our use of the backboard as well.
Said something like "Im not sure if it was a lucky night or its something they always do but their use of the backboard was incredible"
Was not a lucky night.
As Marquette fans who watch every game, the only shot in the UConn game that was "new" was Kolek's driving right-handed scoop. If he made any of those earlier this season, I don't remember them.
We've now seen pull-up 10-15 footers, floaters and a RH layup from Tyler. Last season, any time he drove, the result was usually either a kick-out pass or a forced LH layup in traffic. He became predictable and easy to defend. It's wonderful to see his hard work pay off.

shaka & staff are trying to find a shot Kolek can make. Apparently they've settled on the french pastry scoop.

Think I've even seen TK try the underhand move at the basket. You're probably right. Oops, didn't see above.
Again I am back and come to another topic that I click on and no one is talking about the topic they say the post is about.
This place is still goofy.
No one has talked about Kam Jones directly. just some otherworldly bs. So i will start. The young has an excellent jump shot with almost perfect rotation and launch value, much like a left handed Jordan Poole.
Just outstanding. I marvel at that. Not big on lefty hoopers but with DeAron Fox and others he has a bright future.
Quick release, quick gather and quick set up and and good footwork to break down into a great in between game with floaters and drives and mid range jumpers.
Top notch.
