An excellent guitar player .

A dude who was incredibly influential, and could play just about any style, but will never get his full due because he was just never massively popular. "A guitarist's guitarist" indeed.
Loved his early work both solo and with Yardbirds. Didn't care for the Jazz Fusion that he evolved to.
A truly unique playing style, though. Quit using a pick and just used his thumb to play notes so he was able to use his fingers to adjust volume knob and use vibrato bar at the same time.
As little as he toured pre-1990 I feel very fortunate to have seen him perform live several times. Perhaps my favorite was at the national HOG rally in 2003 with Terry Bozzio on drums.
His version of Beatles' classic A Day in the Life was so cool. Inspired me to learn it. My version...not so cool
Enjoyed all his music.
One of my favorites.
Raw, but that is what makes it great.
