He's been awesome this year. Very under control.
if he were more athletic hed getting drafted this year.
Under appreciated is the fact that his defense is much improved.

You're joking, right?
His D is vastly improved and letting the shot he blocked go out of bounds was high IQ play. Plus, I love ten second violations and shot clock violations.
Defense and driving has transformed his game. Incredible in season improvement and it's only December.
If only Kam had a little more confidence...
Just an absolute monster of a player. Only a sophomore by the way...
If he can keep getting to the rim like that and converting he's gonna be a massive problem for opposing defenses.

Makes up for his lack of explosiveness with craftiness and touch. Can score near the basket from a variety of angles and using both hands.
Kam is outperforming several higher ranked sophomore guards. A real gem.
Pay the man!!!
His defense is really improving. On and off the ball. That shot clock killing block today was awesome.

Coachable. He is understanding that there are two ends of the floor, and his shot selection is 98% better.

This. Yes. He is not launching much from outer space after the Shaka talk. Which is a good thing. Much better shot selection. And results. And Dr ing, even tho against ND who is not good defensively, showed poise and pizazz.
He did have one early in the shot clock space shot tonight, but considering how good the other looks were, I can live with it.
He's a great player
For the love of God let's not say STOOPID $hit about him getting drafted...

Kudos to Shaka for getting on him for the deep 3s and to Kam for responding the way he has. You can almost see him get tempted every once in a while to jack a long one, but he'll usually give a little pump fake and explore a drive. Impressive to adapt so quickly.
He's a modern day Earl Monroe. Can score from outside and has those craft spin moves to get to the rim. So fun to watch his game grow.
I believe I saw a right handed Kam finger-roll today? Or am I mistaken?

It was a layup, but yes. I was impressed.

DId Wilt invent the finger-roll? Gervin seems to be the gold standard.

Not even close.
Kam driving to the hoop is big for us. I'd like to see him lower his dribble a bit but it's great when he's in attack mode. I think he can add some upper body strength along with the floater.

Agreed, I mentioned a few games ago that this was a big development. It changes the dynamic, and hopefully allows Marquette to do better than I expected early.

It's time to start talking about Kam Jones as one of the best players in the Big East.
Is a significantly more efficient scorer than he was early in the season.
20 or more points in three of his last four games.
Kam has undoubtedly improved his game on both ends of the floor and has made himself an integral part of the team's success. As one poster noted, you can see him get very tempted to launch a space shot every now and then, but, for the most part, he has resisted the temptation the past few games. I am impressed with his progress.
But, as for the comparisons to Earl "The Pearl" Monroe, I am afraid that is fantasy. The Pearl was an absolute magician.

I agree with all of this. As much as I enjoyed the occasional 28-foot "No, no, no...yes!" shot, there were enough misses at that range that it wasn't worth it. Over the last several games, it certainly seems like Shaka has gotten him to be a little better with his shot selection. It sure seems like there have been fewer long bombs early in the shot clock. I'd be curious what Kam's three-point percentage is from inside 22'.
He hasn't been below 33% over the past several games:
- 33.3 (ND)
- 33.3 (NCCI)
- 66.7 (UW)
- 57.1 (BU)
- 33.3 (CSt.)
- 50.0 (GT)
- 20.0 (MSU)
- 12.5 (LIU)
- 41.7 (PU)
- 16.7 (CMU)
- 28.6 (RU)

Defense and driving has transformed his game. Incredible in season improvement and it's only December.
His growth during the season has been really great. He took the "stop shooting from the moon" advice and integrated a slash/old man YMCA in the paint game to help open up better looks for himself and his teammates. He has flashes of Big Sheesh with crafty moves around the hoop.
This board called for visible improvement as the season has gone on, and so far, I feel like Kam, TK and O-Max have been great examples to varying degrees.

I know what he's saying. Kam is not an "above the rim" player. A dunk is better than a layup as its less likely to be blocked. I saw some video on Youtube of an MU practice earlier this season and Kam did have a nice dunk in that video. Shaka turns to him and asks him why he doesn't do that in a game. I'd like to see more strong above the rim play from him myself.

Aside from his scoring and shot selection, I have been impressed by his rebounding. He gets his share of Defensive rebounds.
Not wanting to take away from this good thread (https://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=63884.0 (https://www.muscoop.com/index.php?topic=63884.0)) but focusing in on part of Paint Touches 4 stats article (https://painttouches.com/2022/12/15/3-stats-to-explain-marquettes-season/ (https://painttouches.com/2022/12/15/3-stats-to-explain-marquettes-season/)), recent performances by Kam, and comments about him, got me thinking of comparison that I've not yet seen. With his willingness and skill driving to the basket to go along with his 3-pt shooting, I'm seeing a style of play somewhat reminiscent of James Harden. Not comparing their skills or output, but just style and pacing. Neither is super quick, but Kam is starting to show a wiliness that Harden has long demonstrated.
Keep it up Kam!

Yuck
"C'mon Kryptonite!"
Sonny tears up his tickets.
How about Michael Redd as a comp? Lefties, offensive focused, good 3 shooter, not overly athletic. Redd had a pretty nice nba career, but the game has changed a lot since then. Redd has 2-3 inches on Kam which makes a big difference, but i don't think anyone sees Kam reaching quite that level now anyways.
It's fantastic we're having this discussion. Kid is fun
Kinda reminds me of Travis Diener.

Kam, Oso, O-Max, even Gold. I guess Shaka's gonna have a lotta schollies available.
Don't sleep on Kam, aina?
I predicted last year that he would be our leading scorer this year and could be a top 10 career scorer at MU.
I still maintain that and think he will be here for 4 years. I am pretty certain he won't be in the NBA next year.
Sam Vecenie in a conversation with paint touches on twitter said Kam and OMax would be in his updated top 100 NBA prospects. I'm assuming he was talking about Kam, not Sean.
