Less desirable alumnus: Machine Gun Kelly, or R Kelly?

I thought we're looking for famous MSU alumni, not infamous.

Machine Gun Kelly never committed a murder and was a model prisoner. Definitely leg up over an unrepentant sex trafficker and pedophile.
Grisham graduated from MSU, but then went to Ole Miss law and lived in Oxford forever. I think MSU alum disowned him

FWIW R Kelly is a high school dropout, so it's kind of a moot point.

The gift that kept on giving!
The most famous Mississippi State alumni were the players from the 1963 basketball team. They stood up to vile old Ross Barnett and the state's disgusting bigotry and traveled to Michigan to play Loyola, which was mostly African American.
They're all pioneers because they defied then-existing state law.
