A young trend blackledge
Reminds me of Diener.
Reminds me of Ben Gold.
None of the above. Let Ben be Ben.
bob lanier...oh, his younger years of course

I agree, unique player.

Sir, this is Scoop
Coming from a different basketball background, it is difficult to pigeon hole him. So, let Ben be Ben.
A mobile, versatile, athletic 6'10 player with upside who has a long way to go before he reaches his potential.
Would it be bad to say he sort of reminds me of Dawson Garcia?
If anyone votes for Froling, I hope the mods ban the guy. I mean...Ben can actually move from one spot to another.

That isn't bad. Maybe a little quicker and a little less polished.
Mike Kinsela and Youssoupha Mbao in a blender
Ben gold is like Omax. But more offensive and less defensive.

Very good comp. Can put it on the floor, nice shot, lanky athlete.

Can't, you didn't include Wade
Yadi.

Yadi.
If he's Yadi, Marquette will win a natty by cheating heavily. I'm good with that
NASCAR attitude. If you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin'.

Yadi.
In a couple years, teams all over the country will be playing 'the Marquette Way'.

I think yall missed Ricos joke
I feel like jamil Wilson is a good comp. Gold probably doesn't have the measurable athleticism of Jamil from what I've seen, but he's more willing to drive and dunk than Wilson was. I dont recall wilson ever dunking on anyone the way gold did on that poor CMU kid on thursday.
They're both stretch 4s with decent 3 pt shots, matchup nightmares, capable of taking over a game in bursts but otherwise complementary players.

Can't remember which of our Scoopers it was anymore, but one of our colleagues claimed that Dirk would be helpless if confronted by Davante Gardner.
Best comp for Ben is Giannis & Larry Bird in a blender'.
I probably need at the very least 10 more games, but maybe upwards of 5 full years to fully judge.
My first thought was Dawson Garcia, as a few have already mentioned.
I think Dawson was a much more effective overall scorer than Ben can be though, unless he develops a ton.
Dawson got a lot of slack for being "soft," but effective or not he worked his tail off on the interior trying to prove he wasn't.
Even though I had a feeling that J Lew was the diamond of that class, I'm still appreciative of Garcias time at MU.
My second thought was Joey Hauser, but with a much better attitude.

I am surprised no one mentioned him but Ben does remind me of Luke Fisher if he can continue to play like he did last Thursday.

Why? Their games are not remotely similar on the offensive end.
I think that somewhere between Garcia and Joey is a fair comp. Not nearly as polished as either. Due to COVID he didn't play a ton of games. The bottom line is that he has a lot of upside. And he has a long way to go.
Pump the brakes and enjoy the journey.

Well it is only one game. Six of his 11 points were inside the arc if not in the paint; but you may be right.
Loved seeing Ben do well and hope he will continue to surprise us as the season goes on. I'm in the "let Ben be Ben" camp. And I never once said anything like "seems like the players from down under aren't very good" based upon Ben's struggles in scrimmages ?-(.
I need to see some more of him but I think he reminds me of every white player at Marquette within the last 10 years.

In two games Ben Gold has made and taken more 3Ps than Luke Fischer did in 102 career games. They are not remotely similar players

Yeah, Luke had no shot outside of 5-Feet and had 0 athleticism.
Put Rowsey on Diener's shoulders. Throw in Artie Green's hops, Dom James' athletic ability and Henry's size. Put it all in a blender ... and you've got something good as Gold!
The kid's so good, we should change our athletic teams' nickname again!!
This guy?
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. Hopefully Ben is only a terror to our opponents.
I was kind of thinking "the Mountain that rides," but with the personality and nimbleness of Oberyn Martell.

Gold is already clearly a more mobile, skilled, high ceiling player than Froling. Doesn't mean he'll end up being a great cbb player since Froling was atrocious

We've seen Froling's ceiling as a pro wasn't that high either. He goes back to Australia, somehow wins Rookie of the Year, then settles into mediocrity. Averaging under 8 points and 5 boards a game in a league that is super up tempo and high scoring. His brother is a much better player.
A mixture of Ben Simmons, Ben Wallace, and Ben Gordon (minus the assaults), stirred, not shaken.
Throw in some Ben Cartwright and Ben Affleck.
