EDIT: Question mark removed in title.
Flash!
I don't think the ? is necessary. It'll be cool for the kids to have Wade talking to them.

Honorary doctorate. Pretty cool. Now we can hang his banner.
I'm not sure, I think it's 50-50 between Wade and Zachary Levi (Shazam!)

Speaker selection tied to NIL fund?
So, Ezra Miller....
Are we sure it's not the board member who proposed "Marquette Lightning" to replace Warriors? 😬
It's Mark Emmert!
Couldn't even tell you who mine was as I only graduated 7 years ago.
Some nun

All I really remember of mine was the speaker promising a $2,000,000 donation if Marquette changed the nickname back to Warriors.

Hello fellow 2004 graduate.
I'm pretty sure mine was Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Damn if I can remember the name.

Probably Milwaukee native William Rehnquist.
That was him
I was a little hungover

He really should complete his Bachelor's degree. Take a couple of classes online and let MU give him some credit his "internship" with the Boys and Girls Club. I think it would set a great example for the youngsters.
Really? Nothin' butt a waste of his tyme, hey?
Captain Kangaroo and we threw ping pong balls at him, really cool.
My son's Bill Cosby, sooo it was fun at the time, then....

Rehnquist. You and me both, brother. The student speaker at the School of Journalism ceremony crushed it, though.

Why would a Harvard graduate (not really, but sorta) care about a Marquette diploma?

Not wearing Harvard basketball shorts, #FakeNews
Steve Rushin and Mr. Rogers. Those two speakers were phenomenal.
I enjoyed Dick Enberg my year. Told Al stories obviously.
Graduation was on my 21st birthday. Don't remember one word of the speech from 1990.

Usually Harvard legacy/celebrity admits are on easy street for four years, how many millions will they threaten not to donate when they find out Wade only had to go to school for one week

Anybody here graduate in 1990? Daniel Pilarczyk? All I remember is that our ceremony was in the Marcus Amphitheatre, it snowed the day before and it was like 40 degrees and windy. Truly miserable conditions.

Your son is Bill Cosby? Man you are old.
Barbara Bush in 1992. Only thing I remember about it was the cringe moment when she was trying to sound "local" mentioning beers at the "Lanche" but pronouncing it launch.
Marquette applauds Wade as a fine representative of Marquette values...yet Wade gets paid by a Chinese apparel company that uses slave labor. 🤫
Nothing to see here. Carry on. Set that example for the kids.

Not a lot of A-listers. I had never heard of the woman who spoke at mine in 1970 and I haven't heard anything about her since.

Some guy in 1991.
Thanks for whoever posted the link to the Marquette website with the official historical list of graduation speakers to remind me his last name was Coleman and he was an economist.

2019 David Brooks
2018 Jeannie Gaffigan and Jim Gaffigan
2013 Bill Cosby (Marquette revoked Cosby's honorary degree in 2015)
2012 Henry L. Aaron
2011 David McCullough
2009 Dick Enberg
2006 Elaine Chao
2005 Cokie Roberts
2003 Timothy M. Dolan
2001 Fred "Mister" Rogers
1996 Tommy Thompson
1995 Mr. Edward Brennan
1992 Barbara Bush
1988 William Rehnquist
1985 C. Everett Koop
These were the folks I knew without having to look them up... Not a terrible list, but yes, there are some glaring spots.
'86 was I think a Loyola philosophy prof. Terrible.
I attended my sister's in '88- I do remember Renquist's theme--all about how "time" - limited resource, use it well, on your deathbed you won't regret spending time with your family etc

Ironic since he died on the bench.
2010 we had the lady who started Teach for America. Don't remember a single thing about it
Timmy Dolan was and is an embarrassment. His pink robes at the graduation ceremony were fly as hell though. Players wear pink

My now wife graduated that year. It was basically a recruiting pitch. TFA is a well-meaning but very flawed organization.
Wait - where's Captain Kangaroo on the list?
And I could swear '84 was C. Everett Koop (not '85), because that was my brother's class and Koop was greeted by a chorus of "Koooooooooop!!!" when he was introduced.

I hear C Everett Koop and think of the Simpson's episode where Homer was in a barbershop quartet and they sang a song about C Everett Koop.

you're welcome. I went many years thinking John Sununu gave the commencement address. Apparently he was one of the honorary degrees that year.

Nope. 85 was Koop. 84 was Hannah Gray, president of University of Chicago, who during her entire speech was thinking about how none of us were smart enough to get into U of C.

I crashed the 1985 ceremony to attend with some friends who were a year behind me in school. I wore the cap and gown I had from the year before.
I have no freakin' idea who the graduation speaker was in 1982.

I had a school choice advocate named Howard Fuller. He was a one-time Black Panther and his speaking style reflected that.
My wife had Mr. Rogers. An absolutely inspirational speech. She has it printed out and framed.

Edmund Muskie ... no wonder I didn't remember.
