Question:
Which of our remaining games is the most important to win?
Option 1: Georgetown. Can't have a Q4 loss.
votes: 59
Option 2: Creighton. Need that last Q1 win.
votes: 30
Option 3: Butler. MUST. HAVE. REVENGE.
votes: 7
Option 4: DePaul. Ugh, DePaul. Can't lose to DePaul.
votes: 5
Option 5: SJU. Heading into the tourneys off a win is key.
votes: 2
Of course we're going to win all 5, but which of our remaining games do you think is most important and why?
For me it's tomorrow's game. We can absorb one more loss and probably be fine - unless that loss is Georgetown. The beauty of our many-loss resume is that we've avoided bad losses while raking up lots of good wins. As of today St Bonnies are back to a Q2 loss and Butler, ugly as it was, was only a Q2 loss.
But Georgetown would be a Q4. And it's almost guaranteed to end up on that. I think a loss to Georgetown does more damage to our ultimate seeding than to any other team and, for that reason, it's the most important game.
The next one!
I think we need 2 more wins to make the tournament. Any of those 2 gets us in, in my opinion. Why not get the first one tomorrow?
Absolutely correct, the next one!
All of them.
I work with a DePaul grad, so I voted DePaul.
Regardless of whether tomorrow's game is the most important, I think it is very pivotal.
Not only would a loss be a brutal black mark on MU's resume, but coming on the heels of last Saturday's dreary performance, it would signal that the team has hit a wall and might have trouble winning too many more the rest of the way.
It would be a shame to see this exciting season come to an end with a thud. Tomorrow is a golden opportunity to get back on track.

I would be shocked if we lost but yes, it would be brutal. After Creighton ran up a 23 point lead early in the 2nd half, GT got it down to 6 late in the game (would have been even closer if Big Foot Ewing had not gotten the T for tripping the Creighton player). Then they blew their chance of an upset by playing like, well, GT.
I think that some recent performances by DePaul and St. Johns are concerning. Just because they have poor season records does not mean that they cannot be a threat now. Ask UCONN fans what they thought about the St. Johns game.
While I'm still optimistic overall in our next 5 games, I need to add the adjective "cautiously" before optimistic.
IMO, I will like to see the guys win at Creighton. The first game should have been a win for MU and I think many would have expected there going into the season. To me, that is a game I am focusing on to see how they finish the regular season and get ready for the big dance. We have played the toughest part of our schedule with only the Butler mishap and now time to take care of business.
Pretty sure the COLE says message boards can only look at one game at a time so that we do not look past any opponent.

Great insights, Goose. I was focused more on playing for seeding, and so I went with G'town. Your explanation makes me realize that playing well and positioning for a good run in the upcoming tourneys is crucial, and the @Creighton game looms large for that.

Bingo
The season can be a drastically changed for the worse with a loss tomorrow. All of the others, including Creighton, wont have the impact that tomorrow could.
Must win tomorrow.
14 pt favorite at home. GT 3rd game in 5 days, and angry MU squad.
What could go wrong?

I'd like to vote for the first NCAA tourney game.
Regular season, it's tomorrow. That's the only potential multiple seed line drop. Beyond that, I'm with rocky.

We will.
The Creighton game would have the biggest impact on BET seeding.
MU is in danger of slipping into 6th place in the conference which would mean having to play a game on Wednesday in the BET. Beating Creighton would give MU a much better chance of finishing ahead of CU in the standings and would give MU the tiebreaker.
In terms of BET seeding in case of a tie between MU and CU, this game presents a 3 game swing.

What's the BET seeding argument? Just that we don't want to face a potential bad loss in the 1st round? -

First, I want to finish as high up in the standings as possible. Second, I'd rather Marquette not have to play on Wednesday. Beyond that, I think most folks believe it would be best to avoid UConn.

The only thing I care about regarding BET seeding is we play in the evening in the second (and perhaps first) rounds.
So I am fine with 2,3,6,7,10 or 11. (Ideally 2 or 3 obviously)
1,4,5,8 or 9 are problematic. I don't want to use a vacation day like I did last year, only to watch an unfolding disaster.
