Tom Crean
- Defensive energy wasn't there. Marquette has been dodging way too many bullets, and couldn't tonight. Played with very low energy, and NDSU was very efficient. They were searching for someone to help and step up, and it wasn't there.
- David is an good 3pt shot. But need more energy and talk from him. MU has been a quiet team all year, but they're not good enough to just think they can turn it on at the end. He takes blame for not knowing who to have in the game at the right times to get things done.
- NDSU didn't do anything unexpected, but MU didn't focus. There's no excuse for MU not to step up, it wasn't even close when it comes to focus and energy. Comes down to talk - starts in the back court. Desperation isn't there enough.
- Nowhere near where MU needs to be in the communication (on court) area. Short walk through today, lot more mental, but still not enough energy.
- Didn't deserver to win tonight. Big week coming up, and lots of big weeks to come.
Wesley Matthews
- NDSU came out and was hungry and wanted it more. MU was playing from behind the whole time. Forced 25 turnovers, but none at the right time where MU could take control.
- There were opportunities to take the lead. MU was getting open looks and shots they normally make. That's no excuse not to play tough defense and get rebounds. MU gave that up too much.
- MU needs to establish and identity. It needs to be defense and rebounding. Have to be intense on defense - have to love defense, and rebounds, and deflections. Know coach is going to drill the defensive intensity, and rebounding intensity.
- Nelson had a great game, and played well. Knocked down 3s that hurt MU
- Talking on defense is simple, when MU doesn't do it, they get burnt. It gives teammates more confidence, because they know what's going on around them and that their teammates have their back.

Agreed. What I took away from that interview is that something is up with DJ. I don't claim to know what it is, nor how serious, but Crean was bitching quite a bit about the poor play of the back court and they never even thought to ask about James and the fact that he played 27 minutes and spent a lot of time on the bench during key stretches in the 2nd half? C'mon. He was clearly off limits for whatever reason, but it sure looks to me like there is something going on between those two.
this communication thing is b.s. I coached high level youth soccer (odp) and i taught 11 year olds to talk on the field. The one thing i learned in coaching is that a team that is uncomfortable with each other or dominated by one player, tend to not talk or they sit back anf wait for the star to make a play.
what i used to do when my team did this was to pull the best player off the field or put him in goal and let the rest of the team win or loss the game.

He is not 100 percent physically.
watching them run reminds me of AAU ball. Each player doing their own thing for numbers. Crean might have created his own monster taking the freshmen last year to NY. In my opinion they were given royal treatment for signing with MU?

yeah, taking them to media day in October, 2005 killed the 2006-2007 season.
After one loss -- a close loss -- TC has created monsters? Sorry, it was a bad loss - nothing more. And by any measure, the Triple Threat have represented MU extraordinarily well on and off the court.

won't happen.....MU approves the announcers for many reasons -- one is to be the house organ
I think DJ is healthy enough to be on the floor the final 5 minutes of a game with 4 days before the next one.
Remember the emotional post game from Crean after Valpo?? I have a feeling that and last nights issue are related. DJ did not get it vs Valpo was talked to and then came back in and put on a show. Just my thoughts and they seem to make sense to me.
