Wow, good for him! Ok
That is the most 180 of a basketball player ever. Good for him.
No disrespect to Juan, but what happened to the dunk contest? Michael Jordan, Dominique Wilkens, Dr. J, and..... these guys?

Wow are you saying Juan isn't on par with them? Have you even seen his high school mixtape?

Actually, that would be an awesome ESPY award!

QuoteToscano-Anderson was know for his high-flying dunks as a prep star before coming to Marquette, with former Golden Eagles star Jamil Wilson saying "Juan had one of the best mixtapes out." Always loved Juan's high school used the Marquette jersey template.
Also Juan looks the same now as in his high-school mix tape.
It is unreal he is in the dunk contest

Yes
I can't remember the last time I watched the dunk contest. Has to be at least 15 years. But I'll watch this year's to cheer on our guy Juan!
Juan in finals but easily the worst dunk contest I have ever seen.

Worst dunk contest ever...but having Wade shouting "We are...Marquette" about 10x can't hurt.
The dunk contest is pretty much unwatchable these days. It needs a major overhaul. Obviously, it would be great if the marquee players started competing again, but that ship has sailed I'm afraid. Short of that, they need to penalize them significantly if they take more than two attempts - and everything that any rational person would consider an "attempt" should be counted. After a few guys score 30 after a five-minute rehearsal followed by a cool dunk, we'd see less if that. And on that point, why not use 0-5. If somebody wastes 5-10 minutes of our time on a dunk he can't complete, go ahead and give him a 0.
Assuming they aren't going to fix the dunk contest, they might as well swap it with the three point contest and at least finish the night with the best competition.
Many people seem to be misremembering what they think the dunk contest used to be. For example, look at Vince Carter's dunks in the dunk contest back in the day. They were....average (by today's standards). Although, there did used to be more energy and buzz around the event though. A lot of the dunks that get performed in the dunk contest are done daily in the warm up lines by pretty average college players. It was fun to see Juan, but I thought it was a boring event and should be eliminated.
Yeah no doubt nostalgia is playing a big role here. But you see better dunks posterizing people during games than you do during the contest. That's another reason it's lost it's allure.

I agree and would not miss it at all if they cancelled it. I'd also like to see absolute top of the game superstars competing with the most creative dunks that they can think of that they're sure they can make on one attempt. Would the dunks be as spectacular? No. Would the competition be more fun to watch? Absolutely. I think that I, and many others, are still in awe of some dunks MJ made (in the contest and in games) that didn't involve throwing the ball off the side of the backboard, putting it through your legs, and slamming it home...on your sixth attempt.
I'd be up for replacing it with a game of HORSE (with superstars) or a dunk competition with an increasingly higher rim (which is probably too dangerous). A one-on-one tournament could also be really fun, but I doubt the superstars would do it.
As Sultan said, there are several better dunks in the average NBA game than there are in the dunk contest.
It's boring anyway; letting the contestants have an unlimited number of tries to set up their silliness (and not even have those counted as official "attempts") has made it a total slog.
I only watched this year's because Juan was in it. And yes, it was fun to hear "We Are ... Marquette!" numerous times.

The last dunk contest I watched was also about 12-15 years ago, when 5-9 Nate Robinson missed 14 dunks in a row.
Maybe just include one of the professional dunkers to compete alongside the NBA guys. Maybe that would inspire an NBA player to be more creative.
Mandate cannons
When Levine and Gordon were going at it it was incredible.

Showing my age here but many years ago, I think in the early 70s, the NBA had a one on one tourney that ran throughout the season. I think on the game of the week they televised the one on one games.they played to 20. I think Bob Lanier won it.
