It's starting to feel like Marquette is more playing for seed than just to be included in the field, so today Cracked Sidewalks is breaking down the locations Marquette could open play at. We look based on the most likely locations then figure out who else might be there and what circumstances would lead to Marquette playing in each of those locations. And to top it off, we have Marquette continuing to creep up the S-Curve. Here's the latest:

In addition, as Marquette is hosting, the NCAA tries to keep teams from playing games on the same day they host,
Why? What duties or obligations does a University have to its hosting site?
For the top seeds, is it actually preference? Or is it based on geography? I know that this would never happen, but if Gonzaga said, "We want to play in Indy" would they get slotted there?

That would knock out Pittsburgh, San Diego and Greenville if so.

My only thought is so that fans of the host team can attend and not worry about missing their own team's game.

Ah yes—seems reasonable.
We always used to go to the NCAA tournament games at the BC, until they finally started broadcasting every game.
Obviously impossible to plan, but this is a bad year for MU to host, since it eliminates a Midwest pod for MU to potentially go to. In an ideal world, Kansas City or Louisville would have been great to swap Milwaukee with this year.

Money. You want fans in the stands and eyes on the television. The only way host fans can do both is if they stagger scheduling.

Makes it less likely, but it still happens. Ohio State played the same day they hosted in 2019. It's a guideline, not a guarantee.

Ohio State was an 11 seed that year, not a protected seed. Also, they have the huge Athletic Department to host and run the NCAA site and staff their team away from Columbus. Marquette doesn't. So maybe not a guarantee but certainly an accommodation.
Good stuff. I am going with Buffalo or Portland.
