1. Making nearly every ft helps the old eFG%.
2. Villanova making runs was inevitable. Never felt it was weathered completely until the final buzzer. A horror movie baddie who won't die.
3. OMax was really good against Gillespie early. Big momentum play, too.
4. Shaka will ride a hot line up. He was shuffling in and out the second half trying to find one.
5. Rebounding was awesome for a half. A little bit of a reversion in the second half.
6. Morsell able to play some bully ball when nothing else was happening. Stepped up after some spotty play. Senior leadership. 8 point run. Fouling out was awkward.
7. I expect Greg to hit every 3. A little slump the last couple of games. Made the ft's he needed.
8. Not pretty. Don't care. Glorious.

Has anyone ever swept Nova since the NBE organized?
Huge win. Very satisfying.
Going into this season all I wanted to see was improvement as the season progressed. Especially come February and March.
Never did I think we'd be playing at this level, though. It's truly f*cking amazing and so much fun.
This feels like the 2015 season for Cubs fans, to a certain extent.
Such a fun, good, likable team. Shaka is a stud.
I thought O-Max was terrific tonight. MU has weapons and can defend.
Morsell is a Real Dude who makes Real Dude plays. That was glorious in the second half.
We could have played better...and still were up 10+ most of the game.
I look forward to Omax's development. He has monster upside. Feels like he will make an eye opening leap next year.
Woo!

Who would have thought we'd be playing for seeding at the beginning of February. Insane.
No court storm. We expect sweeps!

Student appreciation night. Sweet raffle giveaways like team Jordans, $100 gift cards, and lunch with Shaka. Big heads randomly made a comeback this year. And Sweet Caroline as time winds down on a sweep of the traditional alpha.

Duke didn't do it so neither do we?
Shaka beats 6, top 25 teams to tie the Marquette school record... in year one!!!!
Morsell turned the game. Not only with his 4 hoops but had a big blocked shot.
Loved O-Max's game tonight. If you asked Shaka what he thought he was getting in O-Max, he'd have pointed to that exact game.
Lewis led a much better rebounding game for the team, and hit a huge 3 down the stretch.
We got a little loose with the ball when Nova pressured us. Gotta take care of it.
Thought we might see a little more Kam down the stretch, but Shaka wanted to go with more experience.
A lot of swagger for Kolek tonight, and some of his best offense this season. Got a little 3-happy there, but after he launched that one of the side of the backboard he got back to doing what he does best.
I like our guys' toughness, both physical and mental.
Wonderful job by Shaka all night of motivating the team and finding the right guys to play at key junctures.
Nice little stretch for Joplin in the first half.
Sweeping Nova, including a double-digit win at home ... how sweet it is!

He was open for the catch and shoot three but decided to dribble and mucked himself up on that one
Far from an ugly game...really fun to watch MU figure it out in the 2nd half when Nova decided to chest up Lewis. They played 4 on 4 for a nice stretch.
This is just too damn fun.
I expected nothing out of this year. A couple games under .500 in the Big East would have been gratifying.
Now I'm booking hotels in Pittsburgh/Buffalo/Indy for mid March. What a time to be an MU fan.
1 Lead Change and 1 Tie - happened at the 20 Minute mark of the first half. MU lead start to finish.
After that point, the closet Nova was to Marquette was 3 points which happened at the first made basket and in the second half.

Good summary, as always.
That said I think this game can be summarized in 2 points.
1- We swept the giant, its Villanova!
2- Its Shakas first season, and we are already becoming spoiled!
Let's all get lost in the fight, but don't forget that this isn't real, it's quite surreal.
Don't lose sight of where MU came from and how far it has come in a few short months.
It feels damn good, and there's still work to be done for this season
Don't really have much to say. Love this team. So much heart out there every game. Guys that sacrifice stats for results and fight together for every bit if ground.
This is what I've wanted Marquette basketball to be for quite some time.
Don't think it's been talked about yet but Marquette is an awful matchup for Villanova.
Have the length and the quickness to neutralize Moore and Gillespie, and they don't have a true low post big to give Marquette issues.
Man it sure is nice to switch every screen and not have to worry about a bad matchup.
That sick block-outlet-transition 3 was a thing of beauty. The kind of thing you'd see on a highlight reel on TNT from the Association.
Kolek would've been SOG except for a few hiccups in the 2nd half. If he can continue to improve those sneaky layups near the bucket to keep the defense honest, with his handles and passing, it would make him an all-conference type of guard.
Joplin is the unsung hero for this team during this stretch (minus XU game).

My instinct tells me his ascent is coming before the season is over, when the conference schedule lightens he will have a few huge games

There was a great exchange between Kolek and Shaka in the first half. Kolek got called for a ticky tack foul and said something to the ref. I missed this but my buddy was watching and said that Shaka called him out saying something like "Tyler, don't be an pretty boy". Kolek responded back (missed what he said). Kolek proceeded to get a steal and took it coast to coast for a layup. Jogging back down the court he looked right at Shaka, gestured toward him, and I swear he said "Can I be an pretty boy now?" MU gets a stop and they push it to Kolek who nails an early shot clock trey. Jogging back Kolek gestures at Shaka again and says something like "What about now?" All of this was in a fun in ribbing back and forth kind of way.
Shaka was also red hot after Elliott got thrown to the ground on the Flagrant run. Was screaming at one of the refs and Nevada Smith had to step between them.
We are the first team to sweep Nova in a season since Butler did it during the 16-17 season (their only other loss of the regular season, was the MU over #1 game). This is only the third time since the Catholic 7 split that a team has swept Nova with the first time being when Creighton gave Nova their only two conference losses of the 13-14 season.

This team keeps getting better. I'd say they are playing better than the sum of their parts but think the individual parts may have been underestimated. Happy to see that as we go through the second round of BE play we are not getting owned by just about everyone. So much fun to watch this all develop.

Terrible news, if true. It all happened in that weird timeout after the tech when Shaka and Kolek were arguing.
- Atmosphere was electric. Students were in full voice from the start and after the 10-2 run to get it rolling, they stayed engaged all night long.
- That said...MU needs to do better selling these tickets. The upper bowl was maybe 20-30% full. We have a ranked team that is on absolute fire, figure out how to get people in seats. Offer them to schools, be more active on social media, whatever they have to do.
- So many guys stepped up. Justin and TK in the first half, Darryl down the stretch, O-Max on the defensive end.
- After not using the press much in conference play, we broke it out to start the game and it clearly flustered Villanova. You don't often see a Jay Wright team so out-of-sorts. In the postgame, Jay said he wasn't expecting it. That was our guy being able to outcoach their guy.
- Rebounding was better on both ends, especially in the first half. If we could replicate that all year long, those numbers would have us top-200 in both categories. Not elite, but better enough that we become a much better team.
- Got a little clip of Tyler singing Sweet Caroline at the end with my phone. That kid is brash and is going to be hated everywhere outside Milwaukee for years to come.
- The two biggest moments for the crowd were the Justin Lewis PUJIT three and Darryl's personal 6-0 run. Loved how every time 'Nova got close, we had an answer.
- Felt like some calls kept them in it late. Quite a few going against us whereas our guys couldn't get to the line even when they drove the paint. Didn't matter in the end, but felt like Jay got a little extra respect.
- Great win, back on track. Win the games we're supposed to the rest of the way and we are no worse than a 6-seed.
- Colin Gillespie has adjusted offensive ratings of 96+ in 10/12 Big East games. In the other two, he played Marquette.
Excellent comparison to '15 Cubs VBMG. Always said I'd be willing to sign for a pennant with the Cubs every year they had a legit shot from '84 to '15, but said after '15 maybe not next year. Hopefully saying the same thing about MU soon.

He needs to improve his defensive instincts and bring consistent effort on that end, but I love his ceiling. All aboard the Jopwagon.
This team tho. Doubt anything saw this coming, but wow. Super impressed and super happy to be dead wrong earlier in the season about this group. Very exiting stuff!
With the schedule rest of the way, if PC can lose a couple games, Big East championship isn't out of reach.
I like Joplin. I enjoy watching him progress. If Lewis leaves, I think he slides in next to OMP nearly seamlessly. Shaka needs to get either a banger or a couple more long wings.

He reminded me a little of Johnny Juzang last night in terms of taking and making tough shots. Not saying he's anywhere near that level yet, but in an offense geared towards threes and dunks, he's the type that will get the pass from the staff when it comes to mid-range fadeaways because (like Justin or Morsell) he can make those tough shots.

I watched on TV and always look for that and caught a glimpse that it was mostly empty. Those seats will usually be empty though unless the game time is better. Other than the middle few sections of the upper, it's mostly just casual fans looking for something to do. Marquette needs to try and give those away to schools and run really good promos to fill the seats. Last night reminded me of Syracuse in 2013. Tons of empty seats but still a very electric crowd.
For whatever reason, despite being better than anyone expected, the MU bball program just isn't resonating with fans yet. Part of it is probably hangover from the last poor Wojo year.
It's anecdotal, but even at the Rec Plex/Rec Center at noon, nobody is talking about the team (good or bad). There was always tons of talk about Markus and Sam a few years ago or the teams in the Buzz era.
Maybe the interest in college basketball is down overall.
Are you implying that you are a student or work for the university? If not, how do you know what students are talking about in the rec center right now?
Also, I was there for the height of the Buzz seasons, and we didn't really talk about the basketball team at the rec center. We played basketball or we focused on our own workouts.
