Morsell. Took over when the game was teetering Nova's way.
Kolek and Lewis with solid games too.
Lewis or Morsell
Refs had fun trying to make it close. Some of those crunch time calls...
Most egregious one was when Prosper was leveled and the ref saw it and shrugged.
Was going to be TK. Carried us in the first half. Could have been JFL. Consistently tough all night. Good game by O-Max all game.
But foul out or not, gotta go with Darryl. Or maybe it's his other brother, Darryl. I don't know. But Darryl Morsell put the team on his back in the second half when Nova made a big run and said, get that weak sh!t outta here! Get organized!
DM for SOTG!
DM. When Villanova closed the gap he put the team on his shoulders and pushed us to victory.
Morsell.
Morsell made some really sloppy plays. But he put the team on his back when they were stagnant.
Morsell! Even though he fouled out. He took over a 3 min stretch when we needed it most.
Daryl o we will miss you next year Morsell!
Morsel. Stopped the VU momentum on both the offensive and defensive end. Totally took it upon himself and delivered. He was so frustrating in the first half, but I think we would have lost if he hadn't stepped up in the second half.
Morsell stuck the dagger in Nova's heart and they lost composure
another stellar all-around from lewis but I thought Kolek's scoring and court sense ruled the night
It's Morsell and it's not even close. When Nova got it close, he absolutely took over. Veteran leadership right there.
This is like the '20 Dem primary - so many candidates!
Great game by OMax, with some great D on CG when we opened it up.
Justin with 19 and our rebounding leader, a full night's work.
Kolek as the usual igniter of our O with a productive night on his own.
The bench with 18 points, and decent D.
All worthy, but when this thing was on the line Darryl said no way and made the difference.
Number 32.
I really loved O-Max's game tonight but it's pretty hard not to give it to Morsell.
We were playing so poorly it was almost as if we were behind, and the energy had gone out of the building. And then Morsell just took over. Four straight buckets and a huge blocked shot ... and we were back in control. Finished with 15.
Obviously, nice performances by Lewis and Kolek, too.

+1. OMax's defense was a Renoir
Several solid candidates(OMax, Lewis, Kolek), but Morsell took over just as it looked like Nova was gonna pull a Nova.
#32
I lied in the game thread. Oso wasn't big down the stretch despite Kuath foul trouble.
Tough call tonight, but I think my vote goes as follows:
1. Morsell - no points bigger than the 8 straight when the lead was down to 3.
2. OMax - huge buckets down the stretch, but it was his defense on Gillespie that was the difference.
3. Kolek - found his shooting for a 2nd straight game
Lewis had 5 consecutive ridiculous points in the first half, but has anyone had a quieter 19 and 9 outing?
I'm going to go with OMax. His defense led the team.
Morsell had his 8-0 stretch which was huge.
Lewis did what Lewis does.
Kolek was a one man crew in the first 1/2.
but OMax led the defensive intensity. They made their run when we shifted OMax off Gillespie.
And, OMax had his own huge 5-0 run when we needed it. So he gets the nod from me.
Darryl Morsell.
When I think of sotg the timing and context of the performance matters most imo.
I think Tyler Kolek deserved it if you balance and look at the entire game- 18pts and 6ast with 3 big made threes for him. Justin was right there with a super quiet and efficient 19&9 on 4/5 from 3- 4 of 5!!!
Darryl was third without the context of the game imo.
Then there was the stretch where Villanova tried to make the move to steal a solid road win, and there was Darryl.
He asked for the ball, he wanted the ball, he scored the ball at will.
He effectively locked down the win, both in the real game and in sotg
Gilespie's two worst games of the year were against MU and OMax. And it's not even close in the BE. Give it to the D and OMax.
Kolek or Morsell. Darryl gets it for the absolutely CLUTCH 3 consecutive possessions with scores when desperately needed and a key defensive stop in that sequence.
Kolek was 3-8 from on 3P FG, he had 2 more that were virtually all the way in but rolled out. Good sign..despite the one that hit the side of the backboard from the corner. Shaka has preached and preached about how good of shooter Tyler is, and has been imploring him to keep shooting. Gotta love a coach that sees the real potential despite in-game shooting woes. Kolek starts hitting at a 40% clip from 3, this team is incredibly good/dangerous.
Domino (stud) of the game was Morsell.

Reasonable. This was a defensive win, and O-Max was the best defender on the floor for either team.
Still ... Morsell ... the game was in the balance right there and he tipped the scales to Marquette. Still my choice, but I loved O-Max's game tonight.

O-Max is a huge X-factor on this team. That drive that he finished with the left for the and-1 was special, as was the next one he finished along the baseline with the reverse. His defense is insanely good. Bright future.
Morsell. Team on his back for the stretch we needed.
Omax for the defense. Good God, Gillespie will have nightmares of him

Love DM but Shaka played him 8:43 in the first when MU built their lead. Kudos to Shaka for calling the mismatch three straight times for DM in the 2nd but Shaka sat him in the 1st. OMax
O Max
1a. Morsell
1b. Kolek
Morsell ! ! ! TONY Smith and Homer couldn't commit , they called it a TEAM----Game MVP ! ! ! 8-)
lewis
Lewis had the best stat line easy and it's amazing that he can go 19 and 9 with 4/5 3P shooting and he's pretty much an afterthought in this thread.
I have to go with the crowd and say Morsell. He went on a personal 8-0 run with the game at its climax, nothing more studly than that. Plus, we saw how easy it was Villanova to score once he was out. People are rightly crediting OMax with a big game on Gillespie, but Morsell made Nova's other BEPOY candidate, Justin Moore obsolete whenever he was on the floor.
No mention for Kolek when he broke our perfect FT streak ;D

Jay Wright said in his presser that the game was won at the start and called out OMax. That said, it's again razor thin. Rocky may actually earn his due.
Tough call but have to go with Morsell for stopping Nova's run and stretching the lead out again. After Morsell fouled out it was a matter of the Warriors not turning the ball over -- which for the most part they didn't -- and making FTs, which they did.
Justin Lewis
Honorable Mention
Darryl Morsell
Tyler Kolek

O Max
Maybe we should have a defensive stud of the game as well.
O-max. Shutting Gillespie down was huge.
Stud of the game is supposed to take the whole game into account. Darryl was pretty bad in half 1.
That said, his stretch in the 2H was simply massive and pretty much won the game.
I'd go Morsell
Omax was incredible as well in his role
Justin gonna get a bit of the Markus treatment. Where his line is just so expected.

I thought about this when I didn't choose JL.
But it's not as if Morsell only had those 8 points. He finished with 15, he had a great block of Moore's shot that led directly to Lewis' transition 3 during the stretch where we re-established control of the game, and he played solid D on Moore most of the night.
And O-Max impacted the game bigly as well.
1. Morsell
1A. O-Max
1B. Lewis
1C. Kolek
I'm going Morsell, but you can't go wrong with any of the four.

And, O Max had a couple monster buckets and block outs. Morsell was a dude, but he has to be even better every play.
Mor Sell
Morsell took over the game when it was needed. That said, this was another team win.

All of this. And even after considering that DM was sort of "out of it" at the start of the game (other than his made 3)
Morsell, for the 8 straight points to steady the ship and settle everything down.
JLew has the stat-line. Morsell for SoG.
Morsell
Thought I'd be in the minority on Morsell. I guess not.
I'm going with Moresell. Nova reminded me of a brush fire we had on our land once. Every time I thought it was out, flames shot up again. Moresell stomped out the persistent Nova flames.

Justin F'n Lewis. Shoutout Morsell, OMax and Kolek.
Morsell
Morsell.
Based on the press conference, it seems that Shaka might agree.
