Going as well for the second time(was at the Seton Hall disaster in 2019). Hopefully James Breeding isn't invited.
Possibly. My wife is running the NYC half the following weekend and I'm not sure I will be able to make it work with time off/remote work.
Hoping to find a way to go though. I went in 2014 and 2019 though, so maybe it's best that I stay away.
My wife and I are probably going to go. We went in "19 for the first time and had a mini vacation in NYC as well. I have to give credit Big Time to my wife here, as she is the one who suggested the '19 trip, spent more than we budgeted for our seats, and the one saying "let's go again!". She has become a solid MU fan although basketball was of no particular interest to her before we married. She tells people one of the reasons she married me was because I am a Marquette alumnus, graduating from what she calls "the Harvard of the Midwest". So take THAT Bucky fans!

Any tips for airline/airport to fly into? I have never been to NYC before so would love some direction. Depending on cost/logistics, I may try to pull it off this year or next.

Fly Southwest into LaGuardia, check hotels near the Garden, go to the 9/11 memorial if you have time. Restaurants everywhere, depends there how much you want to spend, google the best of what type of food you want, easy

I've actually wondered if we did a scoop T-shirt before national Marquette day how many people would buy. But then I realized some people are probably just better off staying anonymous...
Is there a Marquette bar this year?
I heard it was Mustang Sally's in the past but looks like it is closed now.
We're staying in midtown short walk from MSG.

A nice perk for those fully vaxxed
I am going to have to start increasing my MU bets to pay for some road trips. Back in the day I took great pride in being a Road Warrior and excited to get back into the mix. DePaul is a lock and hopefully a start of busy spring travel schedule.
You have to be fully vaxxed to get into MSG in the first place.
I generally mask in crowded situations anyway- going to the Villanova game was actually unnerving, with no vax mandate and so many people ignoring the Fiserv mask mandate. Not used to that, coming from Chicago where I am used to both.
We'll see what my comfort level is at MSG when I get there.

Fly in Tuesday morning. Go to Barclays for 3 first round games of the ACC. Tickets will be about $1.50 on Stubhub. Repeat Wednesday for a game and half before you head to MSG for the BET.
15 games in 5 days. Can't beat it.

No good airports in the NYC area. Kennedy is a slow trip into the city, Laguardia is not much better plus it has a short runway. Newark is under construction. Suffer through and go to Newark. Take the mono rail to the train and take the train into Penn Station in NYC. Hotels are expensive in the City. Try the Lexington Hotel. Not great but reasonably good price/value compromise. If money is no object there are plenty of great 4-5 star hotels.
Anyone hear of a pre-game rally point?

Solid itinerary but be careful with Sunday. You've gotta have your butt in a seat for the selection show, preferably in the most comfortable seat in your home so you can spend 4/5 hrs analyzing the brackets and more particularly Marquettes matchup for round one, while very very carefully looking ahead.
I'll never forget laying in bed looking much deeper into South Carolina in 2017 and thinking oh boy Marquette is in trouble...
I knew they were good defensively, but I found out there were elite defensively and had two tall guards as their better players, a nightmare matchup as it turned out for MU. Then they strolled to the FF.
Seeds matta, but matchups matta just as much in the big show. Of course the higher your seed the better matchups you should get early, making your S16 chances much better.

We had to play South Carolina in Greenville, SC so it was basically a home game for them, I remember that their star was out for a large part of the season (may have had to do with being suspended for off court "legal" problems?) and with him playing in the tourney they were a whole lot better than their seed. As you said, bad matchups matta. In the Murray State game the bad matchup was more between the two coaches than it was the teams.
MU had been beaten by a bunch of alpha guards with size going off at the end of the year. Morant was better than any of them. I predicted a double digit defeat against Murray St specifically because of that.

No disagreement here but I think the game could have been much closer if Wojo's defensive plan was not so one dimensional. Two days later in the MS/FSU game (with the same announcers) one of them said "Notice how FSU players maintain their positions on defense." Then she added a zinger obviously directed at Marquette- "You DON'T see five guys collapsing on Morant." It could have and should have been a closer game rather than an embarrassing beat down. That's why I said I thought the mismatch was more between the coaches than the teams.
I'm hoping for a little advice from people who have been to the Tournament before. When my wife bought me tickets for Christmas, she was under the impression that Thursday, like Wednesday, was just one session. So, she bought me tickets for Sessions 1 and 2 thinking that would cover all the games Wednesday and all the games Thursday (she figured I could buy Friday and Saturday later depending on how MU was doing).
As it turns out, Thursday it two sessions. Session 2 includes the early games which will be Nos. 1, 4, and 5 (along with the winner of 8/9). Session 3 includes Nos. 2, 3, 7/10 and 6/11. While I'm hopeful that MU will win out and win the conference, it's not unreasonable to think they'll finish 2 or 3. So, here's what I'm wondering: am I better off just buying Session 3 now (i.e., prices are lower before the brackets are set)? Or is there any chance tickets to Session 3 will be cheaper later? For example, on Wednesday will I be able to find disappointed fans of the teams that lose the 7/10 and 6/11 games?
I'll just buy them if that is the best approach, but I'm not sure the best way to do it. Also, if it should become necessary, will tickets be available for Friday and Saturday's games from the losing fans?
A new work trip foiled this year's BET plans so already looking forward to next year.
I've stayed in hotels anywhere along the 1 subway line, which dumps right into Penn Station, for less dollars then around MSG and in cool little neighborhoods and associated restaurants.
I've taken the train from Chicago to NY and while it takes some time, I telecommute that day.
My favorite way to get to MSG for the Thursday is to walk the high line. It makes you an observer of the 1000 little things happening on the streets below you.
Bring your charging cable. There are outlets by the elevators and no one hangs out there at halftime or between the two games. I've plugged in there for 15 minutes and put a good charge into the phone so I can continue to monitor scoop during games.

Short answer- this year I'd buy everything in advance.
Long answer-
Ticket availability on site will depend on the specific teams in question. That factors in distance, team quality, and general fan support.
Major players:
UConn, PC, Villanova -- Close, good teams, solid or better fan support. I'd expect them to have them to have the biggest crowds.
Medium players:
St. John's, Seton Hall, Creighton, Xavier
Blips:
DePaul, Butler, Georgetown
Friday is the hardest ticket because you have four invested fanbases trying to get tickets, plus the weekend vs. weekday element. If the final four is MU, Nova, PC, UConn, expect to pay a boatload. I suggest buying in advance this year given the likelihood of some/most of those teams advancing.
Can someone share thoughts about BEast seeding? To me, looks like the 4 or 5 spot is likely... which is fine with me if Providence is #1. Good game times that free up the evening in NYC as well.
3 and 6 still in play... I think in the most likely scenarios we'll have a tiebreaker over Xavier if it's between us for 5/6... and be at 4 in a 3/4 battle w UCoNn..
I vote let's get 4 or 5 and have Providence sitting at 1
Nova/Prov & us at Creighton look big this week

I want Providence on our side and UConn on the other side. I think that sets us up for a nice weekend.
Ideally we get to #3 and Nova wins out and wins the conference, pushing PC to 2.
Quarterfinal date with 6/11 winner, hopefully CU/Georgetown if we're getting greedy.

Gotta admit, as much as I'd like MU to be a 2/3, my ticket situation is much better if we're a 4/5. I've already got tickets for Session 2 on Thursday. If MU finishes 2/3, I'm going to have to pick up tickets for session 3.
I'm going hat in hand to fellow scoopers on getting some help on understanding how exchanging and /or reselling tickets to the BET works. Many of you are seasoned pros at this but, being one of the older scoopers here, my wife and I have simply bought our tickets to the Marquette-Georgetown games with no need to consider reselling. When we went to the BET in '19 I correctly guessed the MU games so again, we did not need to deal with resale/exchange. Here are my questions (try to not laugh, OK?):
1) Is it better to have printed tickets or have them on your phone if you need to resell/exchange with another fan?
2) Assuming there are no laws in NYC (I know- no scalping!) against reselling directly to an individual rather than through the original issuer, how feasible is it to buy or sell tickets to another BE fan outside of the MSG or online?
3) How big of a hit do you usually take when reselling to the original issuer?
4) How much does the proximity to game time affect the pricing/value of the tickets?
5) How do you know if the seller is legit (not selling a fake ticket)?
Lastly, a question for Brew and other analysts: what is your best guess for MU's seeding?

Depends on where you live but if it were me, I'd use Newark. It's a United hub with service by most other airlines as well.
Get off the plane, get on the Airtrain to the NJT/Amtrak station and catch the NJT to Penn Station.
Penn Station is underneath MSG. If you're staying in the area, you can walk.
It's a $7.50 fare and takes about 35 minutes.

For Marquette to finish No. 3 in the conference (and play in Session 3 on Thursday afternoon), they have to finish
ahead of both UCONN and Creighton since both of those teams hold tie breakers over MU. Right now, the records are:
UConn 10-5 (remaining: V, @G, @C, DP)
Creighton 10-5 (remaining: @SJ, @P, UConn, SH)
Marquette 9-7 (remaining: B, @DP, SJ)
If MU loses again (I'd like to think they won't), they cannot finish No. 3 in the conference, right? In that case, the best they could do is a tie against the winner of the UConn/Creighton game. And, if MU wins out, UConn and Creighton would
both need to go 1-3 down the stretch for MU to finish ahead of both.
At this point, I'm electing to not even entertain that "other" thing that would cause Marquette to play in Session 3.
Feels like we're in the 4/5 game cause Creighton. I'm OK with that. Can go to a Broadway show Thursday night. MU w a guaranteed win as Dodds assured me it's very difficult to beat a team 3 times in 3 games

Yeah, I looked into that once. While it might be true in theory before you've played the first game, it's
generally not true once you've already beaten them twice. That said, I like our chances against Creighton in another matchup.
I have not ran all the scenarios, but with Seton Hall, SJU and X all 1.5 games back of Marquette, if we win 2/3 we're all but guaranteed to avoid the 6 seed and a first round game, correct?
Dream...
We're the 4 or 5 and we advance to Friday night
We play PC and win
UConn takes out Nova in the 2/3 game
We get UConn on Saturday Night in the Garden, the rule of Dodds applies, we win the BET and Shaka joins KO, Deane-O, TC & Buzz as modern era coaches to hang a banner.

Not sure about that, but: SH vs.X 2/26 and X vs.St.J 3/2. Then MU vs. St. J 3/5. It's going to be tight but there are a few scenarios where the matchups help us secure the #5 seed. Let's just go 3-0 and then we do not have to worry about it.
Ran through some scenarios using T-Rank's projected scores. If the favored team wins (obviously won't happen all the way thru), final standings would be as follows:
PC 14-3
Nova 16-4
UCONN 14-5
Marquette 12-7
Creighton 11-8
SJU 10-9
Seton Hall 9-9
Xavier 9-10
Butler 6-14
Depaul 4-16
Gtown 0-20
Worst case scenario SJU wins out including beating MU at home (which isn't impossible vs. CU, @DP, vs. X, @MU), and Creighton wins more than 1 game rest of the way in their gauntlet (@SJU, @PC, vs. UCONN, vs. Hall), I believe MU slides down to the 6 seed at 11-8 losing the three way tie breaker with Creighton and SJU at 0-3.
I believe all other realistic scenarios of MU winning 2/3 we still get the bye.
Moral of story: root for Creighton to beat SJU tonight. And then in general root against those 2 the rest of the way (not that rooting matters!). Also, if MU just takes care of business and wins the games they're supposed to win (all of them rest of the way), should wrap up the 4 seed and face Creighton Thursday in NYC.
I'm feeling pretty good that we'll be in the 4/5 game at 2:30 ET on Thursday — what show on Broadway should I see later that night??

Fake news. BeeJay gonna be masking for a while that day.
"The owners and operators of all 41 Broadway theatres in New York City will continue to require vaccinations for audience members, as well as performers, backstage crew, and theatre staff, for all performances through April 30, 2022. Masks will continue to be required for audiences inside the theatre, except while actively eating or drinking in designated locations."
I was referencing his comment about MSG. Theaters have their own mandates. Chicago theaters are keeping their vax and mask mandates as well.
Seating in MSG.. any great sections... any awful ones to avoid?

I'm feeling pretty good that we'll be in the 4/5 game at 2:30 ET on Thursday — what show on Broadway should I see later that night??
Biggest thing for me... will Nova catch Providence? Hope not, but could see Providence losing one of their two home games (or both), and then Nova crushing them to take the 1 seed.
I don't hate the idea of playing Creighton in that 4/5 game, I actually prefer it to playing UConn or StJ at the garden despite their well documented pick and roll chops.
However, I absolutely HATE the idea of possibly losing to that team 3x in the same season. That's cringeworthy as heck, and can make a team doubt itself at the most critical point of the season when it comes to the importance of team confidence/cockiness.
Don't want those guys to head to the NCAA tourney with that burden.
So then I guess that becomes a must win?

Agreed. Def not scared of Creighton. Realistically tho, the guys just need to get whatever the heck they've been doing the last couple weeks out of their system. Rattling off 4-5 in a row starting Saturday would a nice step in that direction.

Agree with all of this and with Nemhard's season ending injury, we are in a better position. I always hate when any player is injured and am simply addressing the reality of the situation.

Can't go wrong with any of these, including the ones you listed. I would ask yourself these questions:
1.How much are you willing to spend (especially if it is a hot ticket you have to buy in the secondary market)?
2.What does The Wife want to see?
Personally, I would see a show that you can't currently watch on Disney plus or HBO. And my own choice would be Wicked.

I love musicals. The music in Wicked sucked. Usually when you go to a musical, you walk out humming a song, and you have songs in your head for days. That didn't happen with a single song from Wicked. What a bore.
And my wife, who also loves musicals, hated it too.
Among the musicals we've seen and loved:
Hamilton, West Side Story, Les Miz, Jesus Christ Superstar, Cabaret, Jersey Boys, Chicago, Book of Mormon, Beauty and the Beast, Damn Yankees, and probably several others I can't think of off the top of my head.
Not a big fan of Wicked either.
Come From Away was great.

Gotta admit, as much as I'd like MU to be a 2/3, my ticket situation is much better if we're a 4/5. I've already got tickets for Session 2 on Thursday. If MU finishes 2/3, I'm going to have to pick up tickets for session 3.
In just a few weeks, I've gone from worrying that I have the wrong tickets for Thursday because Marquette might finish as the 2/3 seed, to being relieved that I have the right tickets because Marquette would be a 4/5 seed...to worrying that I have the wrong tickets because Marquette might finish as the 6 seed.

Unless you're interested in a date with UCONN at MSG in the first round (I certainly am not), not sure we even want Creighton to beat Hall any longer. Best scenario is MU beats SJU, Seton Hall beats Creighton and UCONN beats Depaul then it finishes 3. UCONN; 4. Creighton;' 5. MU and 6. Seton Hall. Lot so results that end up in much worse situations for MU. The boys just need to win on Saturday or they deserve what they're going to get, bye or not.

Honestly, I just want MU to get the 5 seed. So, the most preferred path would be to beat SJU. But I definitely see your point.
I wish MU played before the SH/CU game on Saturday so my rooting interests would be more clear. On the one hand, it would be nice if Creighton won and the pressure would be off MU Saturday night. If SH wins Saturday afternoon, the game Saturday night will be pretty stressful.

Yes, there's a Marquette Circles event in NYC tomorrow night. On-Line registration closed last night but you can show up at the door and register and pay there, so as long as you don't feel like an outcast for not having a pre-printed name tag and having to hand write one, go for it. Porky will be in the house. Details below:
https://alumni.marquette.edu/circles
On another note, if you can sore tickets to Plaza Suite with Ferris Bueller and SJP GO! Porky and the wife went last week and it was very entertaining. We originally had tix for when it was supposed to open in March of 2020, but it kept getting postponed and we finally were able to go last Thursday.
Porky highly recommends the bar at Keens Chophouse, less than a 10 min walk from MSG. The restaurant there is one of NYC's great classic steakhouses, but the bar there in particular has a ton of character and one the best if not the best single malt selections in the city. You can get a pour of some 150 Yr Old Scotch for $175 or something if you're up for it. The restaurant is great too of course and known for the lamb chop but given the cost of high quality meat these days, you might want to skip the main dining room especially if you're coming from the midwest and had pay for flight and accommodations. They do have a pub room just off the bar with some more modest menu options like burgers and prime rib hash and the like. Well worth checking out the bar and pub menu, and again less than 10 min walk from MSG on 36th St just east of 6th Ave. Basically 36th and 6th.

Feel free to DM Porky if anyone has any other NYC questions.

I certainly hope your nametag is "Porky's Butthole"
Wow...here's a real example of how the teams in the BET affect ticket prices (and probably to a lesser extent time). Current prices:
Session 2 (Providence, Butler/Xavier, Marquette, Creighton) - cheapest ticket on Ticketmaster is $44 and lots of tickets under $100
Session 3 (Villanova St. John's/DePaul, UCONN, Georgetown/Seton Hall) - cheapest ticket on Ticketmaster is $150
Yet another reason that I'm happy that Marquette finished in as No. 5.

I have no doubt that's a
huge part of it, but on one side you've got:
Session 2 - Providence (183 miles), Cinci (640)/Indy (715), Milwaukee (882), and Omaha (1245)
On the other side you've likely got:
Session 3 - Philly (106), Queens (12), Storrs (136), and West Orange (18)
That third session is pretty much the perfect storm to drive the highest early session ticket value at the BET. And the second session is nearly the opposite.

Burger and Lobster is further away from the MSG than the other two, but not prohibitively so. 20-25 min walk to Garden or 10 min cab ride if no traffic from flatiron location. 15 min walk to MSG from W. 43rd Location. Flatiron Location is nicer IPHO but food the same at both.
One other place worth mentioning below if staying nearby hidden behind the curtain in the lobby of the Parker Meridien Hotel on W. 57th St between 6th & 7th Ave. It's not near MSG, but since there are so many hotels in that area and some folks might be staying there or nearby, it's worth mentioning since it's Porky's favorite Burger place in Manhattan. Despite it's location in a fancy hotel, the place is a total dive and not even a restaurant. It has no wait service they just call your number and you sit anywhere, but it's great. Maybe not for pre-game dinner but good lunch spot if you're staying at the Parker Meridien or another hotel nearby.

My daughter got engaged at the Parker Meridian, plus my son in law basically mentioned the same places, thanks!
We had dinner at a little Korean place about 5-10 minutes from the Garden - Her Name Is Han. It was outstanding. I'd highly recommended it.

Los Tacos number 1
Grabbed tacos here yesterday after the game. Outstanding. I'd recommend for a quick, inexpensive meal.

Pre/post game pre-registration required. Mustang Harry's is the spot. Please buy me drinks.
The pre-game event was really good. We more than got our money's worth. And the beer prices weren't too ridiculous for NYC standards.
Had drinks with JB yesterday afternoon. Fun time, only bummer is we lost yesterday. Besides that having a good time.
Game was a bummer but gotta hang with Newsie & crew before & after the game.
Tonight around 9p, looking foranitaluan restaurant near Times Square / theater district. Anyone have suggestions?

Who's paying though?
We ended up last night at a place called Giardino 54 and enjoyed our meal.

At $250/ticket for tonight's game, I'm way less upset about yesterday's loss now.
Were any of you guys that had tickets for tonight's games able to flip them and make a profit?

Porky,
Between Keens ,earlier in this thread, and now Parker Meridien you have hit in the top spots of my young adult life youth. I remember all the great times with Stewardesses from The old Eastern Airlines at the Parker Meridien when it was new and and interesting place .
