...in the best way, according to his former coach Dave Paulsen. Great read on Kolek written up by Steele.

Kudos to Ben who does very good work on the Marquette beat. Matty V left some big shoes to fill but credit to Ben. Marquette community is blessed to have some incredible independent content in the blogosphere along with Ben.
Kolek jawing at Freemantle was Rowseyesque.
Agree on Ben.

He had me at Take Me Home Country Roads sing along.
Remember JP Macura? Turnabout is fair play.

I loved it when Rowsey lured Angel Delgado into fouling him with "the thing" and as Rowsey went to the FT line for 3 shots, Delgado laughed and said "You
got me Rowsey. You
got me."

Macura was a douche and borderline dirty and got cited/arrested for dropping his pants in a bar. Kolek just jaws and gives it back to the students. A lot more like Rowsey than Macura
Anyone got a dolla they can loan me?
Ima look forward to the talk Travis gives the night we retire #22
#Tyler2rafters
I think Kolek is much more of a wise guy than Rowsey. I said two months ago that opposing fans are not going to like Kolek come to their joint. Truthfully, I think his play, style of play and cockiness is a big part of the team success.

Fair enough. I forgot about the pants dropping and yeah, you're right about Macura.
I loved Rowsey's swagger and smirk. I've forgotten which game it was that on consecutive MU possessions, he backed into a corner near the midcourt line and lured in two defenders who hoped to trap him there. Then he smirked and passed the ball at the last moment, giving MU a four on three advantage in the paint. I could almost read his mind- "I can't believe those clowns fell for the same trick two times in a row!"
Didn't Markus say something like, "Time to go home, son," before stepping to the line and sinking the clinching FTs against Madison? If so, that's pretty cold.
Also, was Diener a trash-talker? I don't remember that being discussed back then, but that was before most were doing any kind of social media.

Lol, where Mike admits he was black out drunk from 2002-2005.

Mike didn't get to many Marquette games between 2002-05, TV usually didn't show that kind of stuff, and I wasn't on social media.
Also, I'm much more likely to have a beverage now.

Yes but it was, you want to go home? Let's go home talking to the milkman but obviously trash talking opponents before sinking the dagger Ft (no matta)
All Ben does is write amazing articles. Guys the coolest.
Love Taylor Kohler. Dudes a baller. Takes after diener and rowsey.
Howard wasn't a trash talker too much, but that throat slash after burying the 3 at Madison was amazing. That guy is a stud.

This. He immediately became one of my favorite players.
I wonder if Ben Simmons even remembers it.

Enough so that this Louisville site ranks Travis the second-most hated Louisville opponent ever.

Who knew that all these years later those two would have so much in common? Both have played the exact same amount of minutes in the NBA this season.

Hilarious, that's a great write-up. Insulting and complimentary at the same time. Diener would undoubtedly love it.

Maybe he should reach out to Rowsey and see if he will teach him how to shoot.

I went to a concert a year or two after Diener graduated. After the show, we were having a drink at the bar and talking to the guitarist of the band, who happened to originally be from Louisville and was a big Cards BB fan. Somehow my friend I was with being a Marquette student came up and the guy's eyes light up. Not the FF, not Wade...
"Marquette? Man, Travis Diener, I HATED that guy. He was absolutely ruthless, he KILLED us" while chuckling. It was amazing

Loved reading that, Pak. Cracked me up.
Still doesn't answer whether Travis was a trash-talker, but it's not really necessary.

That'd require him to actually shoot a ball.

He was. He wasn't Larry Bird or MJ level, but he jawed plenty. I mean, the 3 fingers up running down the court after a make from deep? That wasn't just to pump up the hometown fans.
