Title: [Paint Touches] There and Back Again
Post by: PaintTouches on January 24, 2022, 08:51:10 AM
It was exactly 365 days ago MU broke me, (and yes I suck for being so late to board that bus), but hard to believe just how much has changed over the past year. Just had to quickly put that marker down.

Not sure if we are allowed to reference past coaches now per the Scoop Intelligencia, but I count about five games MU has won this season with defense. It's refreshing to rely on a defense in these close games again (now #23 in KPom).

That DePaul game was brutal. Thanks for the PTSD flashback and your work.

Outstandingly written and researched, Andrei. Of course, I would say that because that day also proved to be MY tipping point.

After that game, I said not only should Wojo be fired, but it should happen immediately -- don't wait till the end of the season.

Like you, I was one of the last dopes holding out hope ... and part of that was because I thought there was absolutely no chance Wojo would get fired. I'm so glad to have been wrong about that, and I'm grateful to the big-money alums who made Wojo's departure and Shaka's hiring happen.

I liked this, too:

And because I can’t leave you without some numbers, using KenPom’s day of game probabilities, Marquette had a 0.6% chance of going 6-0 the past 6 games.

Love that kenpom.

I don't recall pinpointing it to that particular day, but that was certainly about the time that my optimism in the direction of the program took a fatal blow. I was one of the folks that didn't think the admin will get rid of Wojo, not with the budget constraints caused and exacerbated by COVID, but I did think time for a change had come.

Anyway, like MU82, I was struck by the 0.6% chance that KenPom gave us to win the last six! Is it possible to calculate what percentage chance he would've given MU for 7-0?!

Using day of game KP probabilities, so that the previous win gets factored in to the equation and starting with the PC game, there was a 0.2% chance of MU going 7-0.

If you ran it on Jan 3, I'm guessing it would be even lower.

Maybe this is where someone could post that "So you're telling me that there's a chance?" gif cliche.

Or, 0.2% ... done deal.
