Title: Providence
Post by: VanderBlueFanClub on January 21, 2022, 10:06:58 AM
In my opinion, Providence is probably the biggest Pre-Tender in the Big East. They have lost to us, only beat G-Town by 8 last night, along 49th in strength of schedule this year. And in their game against UW at the beginning of the year, which they won, Johnny Davis didn't even play. Making that win pretty much a fake win. Barely squeaked by teams like Northwestern and lost to Virginia. Although this might be a hot-take, I truly believe that they won't make it far in the BET and the Tournament. And just to finish this off, KenPom has them as #1 in Luck rating.

Fake win. Never heard that one before.

I tend to agree with your overall thoughts and I'm pretty skeptical that they can win the BE, but they had a really nice out of conference and won at UConn and I don't see anything wrong with having a Top 50 SOS. They were a 10.5pt favorite yesterday and won by 8, so nothing disastrous there. And let's not forget that MU pulled out 1pt wins against KState and Illinois who both didn't have their best players.

Yeah, that SOS was far-fetched, my bad.

On this note, our NET ranking raised by 1 spot...because Providence dropped 2 spots after their unconvincing win at Georgetown.

Sorry I have to disagree. They beat Seton Hall and UCOnn and have some good wins. I think the 8 point win over Georgetown had to do with their COvid break. They hadn't played in 12 days and missed 3 games in a row (4 total). I don't think they will win the big East as they fall back as they play more games but they will finish in the top 6.

UConn was without Sanogo.

SHU was without Obiagu and Samuel.

Providence is fine. Solid team. No good wins over teams that weren't missing key players.

Of course they will finish in the top 6. They are 5-1 and I'm not confident any ofthe bottom 4 even gets to 6 wins.

Providence hasn't played with AJ Reeves since 1/1 including in the loss to Marquette.

I agree that Providence is a good solid team which means they aren't the biggest pretender. Especially when the only evidence is they only beat Georgetown by 8. They beat who they should and may have caught a break here or there.

so, what's your take on MU's win over Illinois? Their best guy didn't play in that one.

Ok so even if a team wins they still suck if 1) the other team isn't plating its best game ever and/or has a key player or two missing, 2) they don't win by a ton of points, 3) they "get lucky" whatever that means?  Got it.

What a stupid argument!

I was kind of expecting that.  Sunday at Noon, which I guess is 11:00 Central, works better for me anyway!

My guess is they still fly in Friday and just hunker down.

Goodman has placed Providence at #15 in CBS's "Top 25 and 1" today and Marquette at #18.

A little late on this, but I am 100% confident this did not happen.

They likely aren't making up their postponed games at Creighton, at Seton Hall, or at home against UConn.

Major break for them.

The Provi really is the luckiest team in the nation this season.
