oh brother.
rankings suck
They're the only team undefeated in the nation and have beaten won at Oklahoma, at UConn (who people are saying on this board is a top 10 team), vs. USC, vs. Georgetown, vs. Arizona, and vs. Gonzaga. There's no way you can not have them at #1.
Tennessee will be their test. They played uconn a long time ago.
Memphis is a really good team.
If we'd play them, they'd be "our Kansas State" in the pre-season.
overrated
The only team I can see being higher then Memphis is Duke, and until Memphis loses, they are #1, just how it will be... I personally think Memphis would beat Duke... can shoot the ball with Duke, and faster and more athletic, especially around the hoop... they are a very good team
mviale, have you watched a Memphis game? Rose, Douglas-Roberts, Dorsey and Dozier.... very tough
if rankings went by how good a team actually is, and not by records as well... no Big Ten team would make the list.

overrated
Really tough to debate the quality analysis you've brought to this thread. Truly inspiring stuff...
they may be #1 now but rankings dont matter. theyll be screwed come tourney time after playing a whole conference season of cream puffs.

And how has our tough conference season prepared us for tourney since joining the Big East?
Kansas is the best team in the nation. Yes, I know they lost two games AT Kansas State and AT Texas, but they're the most talented team. It's not just their talent alone though that I like about them, they play very unselfish basketball. They remind me of the Florida team in that aspect of the past two years. I predict they'll finally break through once and for all and win the national title. Find me a better top 8 than Brandon Rush, Mario Chalmers, Darrell Arthur, Darnell Jackson, Sasha Kahn, Sherrod Collins, Russell Robinson. and Cole Aldrich. There's at least 4 first round NBA picks in that group. They're loaded folks. Cole Alrdich, a burger boy last year in high school is their 8th man off the bench. Just think he would be the starting 5 man at MU averaging at least 20-25 minutes per game.
Of course, Duke should be #1 since we only lost to them by a few. Next should be L'ville, since they beat us twice, followed by UConn, WVA and ND. If those teams weren't top 5, there is no way we lose to them.
The selectivity and partiality of some on this board is unbelievable - must be a bunch of Law School grads.

One problem... Bill Self, won't get it done... great recruiter, poor coach
for the last 4/5 years Kansas has been seen as a darling going into the tournament, won't believe it till I see it
For my money, I'll put as my final four right now, Memphis, Duke, Louisville, Kansas St.. need some sleepers... and Kansas St reminds me of '03 Cuse team

I'm not a lawyer, and I find discussion of rankings to be weird and scary. I'm frightened by all of this conversation on Teh Internets.
But I've heard that this sort of statement is called a straw man argument. One creates an opinion that is easy to refute, and then attributes this opinion to those that disagree with you. It's an informal fallacy, or you could just call it bad logic.

Back on topic... Memphis won't win the national championship because they suck at shooting free throws. 58% as a team.

If Memphis plays the way the Calipari led UMass teams did like "if you lose you're going to the electric chair" then of course they'll go all the way. That's a hell of a way to play, John.

Man, I sure hope Louisville doesn't get there. I hate them so much that I want to see them get knocked out during the first weekend of the tourney. There's no question though they have the talent and the kind of balance you need to get to a Final Four. In fact, they have enough talent to win it all. It pains me to say that too. I wish we had their mix of frontcourt and backcourt talent/depth. My sleeper pick for the Final Four would be UCONN right now. Remember they're playing without they're leading scorer Jerome Dyson. I can easily see them making it to San Antonio. They're so tough defensively. As is Louisville.
I always root for MU's conference members to do well come tourney time. And I will again this year, but I will struggle rooting for Louisville. I don't find the players particularly likable and hate the fawning all the announcers do over Pitino while they call a l-ville game. Aside from them, I won't find it too tough to root for any other teams, though Huggy Bear will make it difficult to root for WV and I'm hoping Syracuse doesn't get in.
